Alarm system after a week

Recommended Posts

(2002 C2)

The owners manual states the remote controls won't open the car after

it sits locked up for 5 days.

It also states, if the car was locked with the remote and is opened with

the key, the ignition must be switched on within 10 seconds or the alarm

will trigger.

Stupid question -- what happens when the alarm goes off, and how the

heck do you turn it off if it does trigger?

Get in and turn the ignition on - that will kill the alarm.

If I leave mine locked for 5 days or more (after locking with the remote), the alarm ALWAYS sounds as soon as I unlock it with the key. Fortunately it is a rarity for me to leave it that long, but it is d*mned annoying when it does go off, and I haven't figured a way around it. Maybe I should try locking it with the key.

We went to my folks for Christmas, over a week, so I decided

to test that 5-day thing. Locked the car with the remote when

we left.

Got home last night. Today I tried the remote and it did nothing,

as expected. I unlocked with the key, and didn't wait 10 seconds.

I turned on the ignition with the key.

When I turned off the key I heard a bunch of clicking and thunking

from the locking system.

Tried the remote, and it blinked indicating an unlock operation.

------

I hear car alarms all the time, and they don't seem to do much

except annoy people. Do they do anything other than inconvenience

the owner?!
