Question for Cab Owners....

Recommended Posts

My wife and I are already thinking of Spring and sprucing up the new cab. What does everyone recommend for the annual reconditioning of the rag top? I remember from our Boxster days that Porsche makes a reconditioning product but I also remember Porsche's disclamer about how it could damage paint, etc. Is there anything that works as well, or better, than the Porsche product and that is also more benign?

Thanks again!

I've used both the Porsche Cabriolet sealant product as well as the Raggtop brand. I can honestly say that the Raggtop brand is a lot easier to use and seems to work just as well. You do need to put on several coats of the Raggtopp product though. Actually, it is interesting to note that the Raggtop brand is also endorsed by Haartz - the maker of the material/fabric used in the cab top - and is a heck of a lot easier cleanup.

On the cleaner side, I am currently using the Porsche cab cleaner product, but have just recently purchased the Raggtop cleaner product and will try it in the spring. I had a stain on the top previously and the dealer said they used the Raggtop cleaner product to get it off - that's why I am trying it - although the Porsche cab cleaner product has worked well for me in the past.

BTW, regardless of the product you choose (but especially if you choose to use the Porsche product) you should really mask off the rest of the car to make clean-up easier. I found a great product which is one made by 3M that has a plastic drop cloth together with a masking tape used for painting. I can't remember the name of it, but you can get it at Home Depot, and sold in rolls having various widths of the drop cloth (white) with a strip of tape (blue) attached. Simply roll out the tape along the tops of the windows, windshield and back of the car and then gently pull out the drop cloth. Works great!
