Oil leaks and engine failers

Recommended Posts

Doe's it seem the rms and shaft bearing failers are getting better on the 03s. What milage do the leaks typically show up at? This kind of pisses me off to find this out after having an engine bearing recall on my 02 M3 . Mabe I should have found this board before dropping 90k last week on a 40th ann 911. I was hopeing that after 5 years in production they would have sorted this out!! thanks

RMS failures, yes there are some still - but still a very small percentage of total cars. Bearing failures are very very rare. For example, my MY99 has had one RMS leak at about 8000 miles and has been dry since. Porsche has improved the seal and the method of training dealers to install it.

Furthermore, Porsche has provided dealers with a special tool that checks the crankcase halfs to make sure they are within spec - so the new seal will not fail again. If your engine fails the test - you get a new engine (so far whether you are in warranty or not!).
