upgrading my 2.5 engine

Recommended Posts

My 2.5 engine is gone and I need to have it either rebuild or buy one from Porsche.

I am thinking about 3.4 engine.

Am I going to need a complete engine? Or is it just the motor?

I have tipronic transy , is that going to be a problem? (if yes then what can I do about it)

How much was the total cost for the swap?

Where I can find the best deal on used 996 engine?

Thank you all.

what is the reman porsche engine.

where can I get it.

Any porsche dealer can get you an exchange engine. I doubt they will allow something like a 2.5 traded-in for a 3.2 liter. I think the prices are based on "like" replacements.

From a boxster owner to another, spend the extra cash on the 3.4 motor if you can. You will enjoy your investment

I think I will be going for the 3.4L engine.

The only problem I could think off is the tiptronic transmission .

Do you guys think it will be a problem with my transmission.

Will it fit the new engine or not.

I think cost of having my engine rebuilt will be vary close to upgrading my engine 3.4L and this is why I am doing it.

I really don’t want to spend much money on the car cause I am buying a 996 4s or Merc CL55 ( I don’t now yet)

So I want to do the swap with the least $$$$.

I had my tip rebuilt by an Euro auto trans specialist. I floated the idea of a 3.4L transplant. They said that all the tips are very similar. They are all made by ZF. And that from the look of things, there aren't much differences between the Carrera tips and Boxster tips that they could see. Their opinion is that the tip would stand up to the 3.4L.

I have read articles in magzines about a 3.4 transplant to a 1997 tip Boxster. The work was done by a Sydney company. I have emailed them and they said that the transmission was holding up to the power 1 year on and going. They did elude to an upgrade part sourced from a US company for strengthening the tip which they used in the build but they were of the opinion that it didn't really add anything to its strength.
