Rear Fog Lamps

Recommended Posts

New owner of a '03 Boxster with two questions about the rear fog lamp.

#1 Is it possible to add a second lamp? The right hand rear lamp assembly has a bulb placement for a rear fog and it appears to be wired. I did a continuity check between the left hand side fog and the right hand side "fog lamp position" and the circuit is not complete. Can the right hand side be easily connected or did Porsche cut the wire in an inaccessible location? I realize that I could just bridge the gap with some vampire type wire connects... but I would prefer not to.

#2 Is there a simple way to change the sequence in which the fog lamps are lit? The pull-out switch lights the front fogs first and then the rear. Could this be switched so that the rear fog is lit first?

Probably curious why I want to do this. Well, rear fog lamps are a great way to keep tail-gating SUV's off your tail

thanks

Like you noted, there is a bulb socket and a wire to it but there is no power. We traced it back to the headlight switch but it was not worth further investigation.

You simply run a jumper wire from the wire from socket that functions to the wire that does not. Then put in a bulb. Jeff

Thanks, I thought it might not be a simple solution. I'll do the "jumper wire" for the additional light.

How about question #2... any thought on this? Maybe this could be done by trading the switch wires at the appropriate relay. What do you think? BTW, has anyone ever mapped out all of the relays on the Boxster? There are lots of them, including four (if I recall correctly) behind a panel in the rear trunk left hand side.
