Fuel filling problems went away

Recommended Posts

Had complained to my service advisor about fuel filling problems several months earlier, and he thought one of the fuel evaporation valves wasn't working. I had the 30K mile service done last week, and it was listed as one of the warranty items to check. Since originally complaining to the dealer, I saw the article here on Won't take Gas!!! and decided to tape up the cell phone connector with some electrical tape (and no, fuse E6 had not blown). Since I did put the electrical tape over the cell phone connector, my fuel filling problems disappeared. Tested over at least a dozen fill-ups. Before taping up the connector, at least one out of four fill-ups was a problem. Also, at the 30K mile service last week, the mechanic couldn't find any problem with filling up the car. (I even got a free quarter tank of gas from them checking out the system :) )

Just thought I'd pass this experience on to anyone else sometimes having problems filling up the tank

I'm having this same problem with my 2003 C4S.

The parade of all the horribles on other posts indicates a fix that involves changing out the evap canister could lead me to the land of the C-$-S once again.

So I'll try anything, and although my E6 fuse was good I changed it, and although I've never experienced any short from the cellphone connector I pulled off the right side of the center console and taped it all up.

Next stop was the gas station. I was really hoping for success, but still had to literally squeeze gas into the tank a tablespoon at a time. and, for the first time, when I was at just about 2 gallons pumped the gas pump timed me out.

So, Mattaebersold, my friend, what was your result, if you don't mind my asking and sharing your experience.

And next time I'm up visiting friends up on Queen Anne maybe we can have a nip at that very cool pub up there.

my problem was that the fuel tank vent valve was not functioning. I could not get gas into the fuel tank. Turns out a mouse had nested in the little area around the valve and had chewed through the wires. Now fixed. My indy, Mike Renzi in Fort Bragg, CA, checked this spot first and that was that. Cheers, jl
