996 Engine part code?

Recommended Posts

Hi, my 996 had its engine replaced in 2008, and the part code given is P996.100.995.DX. Could anybody tell me what kind of engine this is? For example; is it an exchange engine, updated, newer model year, etc.

Thanks in advance!

My 05 boxster vin doesn't match the engine serial # m96/2561504112. can you decode for me?

I do not know what you mean "does not match".

Your engine serial number says the engine was built in 2005 -- the same year as your car.

It could have also been replaced that same year with another engine - but that is a new engine serial number (not a rebuilt).

Thanks. So what are the differences between this engine and the first of the 3.6 997 engines?

Probably very little differences. The IMS change did not happen until mid-model year 2006.

Actually, the non serviceable IMS began to show up in model year 2005 (the only way to tell which one is in a 2005 it to take the car apart); all 2006's have it.
