  1. If you remove components you just need to use a PIWIS tester to turn off the removed devices. Chances are you would only see the errors when you hooked up a tester anyway.

  3. There is a 3 page TSB that describes the mounting of the GT side skirts. It describes the template alignment and the drilling of the holes. As well, the tightening sequence for the mounting screws to prevent distortion. TSB's are available here to view for our Contributing Members. Contributing Members can can also use the Retail Price Search feature, access the Contributors Only Forum. P0134 Oxygen Sensor Ahead of Catalytic Converter (Cylinders 1 - 3) - Interruption of Signal Function To diagnose the readiness for operation of the oxygen sensors, the position of the sensor voltage is evaluated (diagnosis is disabled in the case of certain faults or conditions). Diagnosis conditions Diagnostic Trouble Code P0134 is stored by the DME control module when the sensor voltage is continuously between 400 mY and 600 mY for more than 5 seconds. Potential causes: Open circuit in signal wire or ground wire of one oxygen sensor. Oxygen sensor heating not functioning. Output stage of DME control module faulty. Open circuit to common sensor ground. - Wiring harness - Oxygen sensor - DME control module Look for loose connections and then replace that sensor of the connections are ok. O2 sensors on these cars seem to last 60,000 to 120,000 miles. I've seen a Boxster need all for within a few thousand miles of 60,000. And, I've seen 996's with 118,000 and still no bad sensors.

  6. :lol: The problem is the "official" price list I get is the same one dealers get - so what I said above is -- "ADHESIVE" is the only word in the description for 1,870 parts. If the description was "carpet adhesive" that would make life easy. No such luck - this is how Porsche delivers the price list to their dealers :rolleyes: Still I'll take a look at what we can do - as some parts actually do have useful descriptions.
  7. Well, I could add that but sometimes the descriptions are pretty bad -- i.e. "screw" (only word used to describe the part) - 3,740 instances, or "adhesive" - 1,870 instances, etc. etc. Let me see how hard it would be to do - then perhaps we can try it and see if it is useful at all.
  8. Any work done recently? The misfire codes point towards wrong plugs, or bad coil packs (cracked), or bad connections. I would solve the misfire problems and then clear all the codes and see what (if any) come back. A bad MAF would not cause individual cylinders to misfire (at least not logically to me). Clearing the fault codes with the Durametric Software should be fine. You could disconnect the battery also - that would cause the DME to "re-learn" your driving style. If you do have a bad O2 sensor they can be replaced individually. BTW... How many miles? Let's hope your vibration is misfire related - some of the other possibilities are not good. ;)

  10. Pressure should be measured with the tires cold. If you are new to Porsche then I suggest stating with the factory air pressures. To my personal driving style I like how my car handles with 32 front and 36 rear. Just be careful because you can drastically change the handling.

P0446 (Porsche fault code 95) EVAP Canister Shutoff Valve (Function) - Below Lower Limit The task of the shutoff valve is to seal the purge air line to the EVAP canister during the fuel tank leak test (at startup). Potential causes: - Bad gas cap seal - Purge air line blocked. - Flow resistance of EVAP canister too high.

  13. That is likely what it is. Most cars I've seen have this - so it is "factory normal".
  14. Hand tight is likely ok. Just be careful that you don't over tighten them and crack the coils. I agree the the two spark plugs furthest to the back of the car (on each side) are the hardest to get to (especially if you have big hands like me).
  15. If you are talking about the wear marks on the (aluminum looking) bearings - they don't look bad to me. But for the cost of a new set of bearing I always replace them whenever I split an engine case. Just not worth tearing the engine apart again in 20,000 miles. Those bearing come out and are easily replaced. If the case is cracked at a non-critical point it can be welded (at a specialty shop) - but if the crack is at a critical bearing point then case should be replaced. The one picture looks to me like the latter. - a main bearing support is cracked. I would like to hear Porsche's opinion on an engine that shows very little wear on the main bearings yet the bearing support(s) are cracked. This should not happen IMHO.

  18. You may want to ask to have a PCNA rep be present during tear down. Certainly a bad seal install could cause the seal to blow out and lose all of the oil. But just like an autopsy these things need to be investigated by an unbiased professional (IMHO of course).
  19. Nothing special here. You just need to support the engine while you change out the mounts.
  20. If there is no oil leaking on to the spark plugs or on the ground - then you are likely fine. TSB 1/98 1546 New O-Ring on Oil Protection Pipe -- dated 5-14-98 states that any cars built after November 24, 1997 should already have the newer o-rings. That would include all US cars.

  22. If the coolant is not on the ground and the oil level is high - then it does not sound good.
  23. Cleaning and lubing might help. It could be a sticky microswitch also - so cleaning might help that too.
  24. Chances are your noise is a bad bumper alignment. They should loosen the bumper mounting and then retighten it while someone holds it is position. The front bumper should be even with the front hood or you will get noise.
