  1. The Metra VW/Audi Bose 93-Up harness (#70-1787) was a perfect fit for my '01 996 with HiFi upgrade (Becker CDR 220 is the stock headunit). It made the swap-out take 10 minutes without any cutting. I think the antenna adapter is a pretty standard parts for an audi/vw. I picked one up at my local car stereo installer. hth, Jeff

It would seem to me that the only way these 2 could be related is if the RMS leak was pretty severe and you let the oil run low (or out?!?!) for a long period of time OR you had a failing shaft that caused the RMS that was not diagnosed the first time. Of course you didnt say what the recent issue was so this is just conjecture on my part. Also, another common thing on RMS failures seems to be 'babying' the car or not using it enough. How many miles a year are you putting on your car? Just curious... Jeff
  3. What would the possible causes of my car stalling when at highway speeds I disengage the clutch and take it out of gear to coast? I went out with some friends on a little romp up and down 9W this am and I noticed that if I let the car coast in neutral the idle would get erratic and the car would stall. Regular shifting is not a problem and of course once I put it back in gear it would roar to life. I have no such problems when I'm at a light or at speeds below 30. Any help would be appreciated.   4. Sure, anything from a 265 to 295 will work on that 10" wheel. I run 285s on my 10 x 18s. I guess I have my winter and 1/2 my summer resolved. Thank you, Jeff
  5. Actually, the winter tires included are 225/40 so it looks like I am good to go. Loren, any thoughts on whether or not those 280 would fit 10" rims? Thanks, Jeff
  6. I think I might have found winter booties for my C4 but I am not too sure that the 8.5x18 ET 52 wheels I found will fit the front on my car. The back wheels I am looking at are 10x18 ET 65 so I am OK there the fronts I'm just not too sure about. Has anybody tried this size on their cars? Also, how does one determine the size rim needed for a particular tire. The deal I am working on includes a new set of 280/30 tires. Would they work on 10" rims? TIA Jeff
  7. I also have a '01 C4 Cab and just did this. I would echo Loren's suggestion to be very patient and definitely lower the engine! It's not that big of a deal and makes a huge difference (at least it did in my case). A dremel comes in handy too ;) Please feel free to PM me for encouragement and/or support and I will keep an eye on this thread too. Jeff

  9. Thanks, Loren. It seems those manuals would be quite beneficial to own. Anyway, it turns out the biggest symptom is that I am a dope...it turns out that while it seemed to be a bum ignition switch (heck I was so convinced I even ordered the part from Sunset while limping the car home) it actually was a screw loose in front of the steering wheel. :( Earlier in the day I took a quick swipe of a leather cleaner around the dash and I must have hit the ignition kill switch the previous owner had installed! Of course my wife recalled this fact even though I didn't but since I was so convinced it was the switch she didn't bother mentioning this little detail :cursing: Let the ridiculing begin.... Jeff
  10. Need a little help (yes again)... Can anyone help me get a pdf of the parts of the tech manuals required to replace the ignition switch and steering lock. According to the TSB it is Group 2 Repairs 28-1 and Group 4 Repairs 48-19 and 48-21. Also, where would one get a full set of these documents as it seems that I need them every few weeks. Thanks, Jeff
  11. As I just learned recently this leak is most likely from the Coolant Reservoir - assuming you can't see it coming from the cap which would be pretty evident. Also, based on where mine cracked there is no way to know beforehand except at first you will notice a faint smell of coolant when you stop the car. Mine went from faint odor to 3" puddle to 6" puddle within 100 miles and 1 day. hth Jeff

  13. Just trying to help myself here.... Is it possible that the bracket I need is part number: 996.106.421.51 ??? It would be the part that holds the tubing in the spot indicated in the attached picture.
  14. Loren, Thanks for your help last night. I did finally get that CR out of there but at the expense of 2 clips. One is the one that is directly under the CR and it holds the metal lower coolant tube and the other is way in the back and it seems to be supported by that same hose while restraining a small tube. Can you help me the part numbers for these? Thanks, Jeff
  15. OK...here's where double posting sucks: Yes. The airpump has been removed and all (I believe) hoses and lines are disconnected or removed (which will bring me to a question later about how to route the fuel line when I reinstalled it ) It just doesnt seem to be able to make the turn even though it is loose in the cavity.   16. I am way past the point of no return on this. I've disconnected the sensor switch, the 3 coolant hoses, the 3 fuel lines connections, pushed the fuel filter to the rear and have dropped the CR out of its rails. However, I can't get the thing out of there!!!!!!!!! Has anyone with an '01 done this themselves? Do I have to drop the engine and does that move it out of DIY land? Any and all thoughts would be appreciated. TIA Jeff I usually don't double post but I will be posting this to rennlist too so excuse me if you see it there too.
  17. Thanks for the input guys. The TBS doesnt help a whole lot as it basically seems to do a diagnostic before replacing the antenna booster. I am going to try the sanding method and removal of my cellphone charger next. If anyone has any other ideas, I'm all ears.   18. How embarassing. I thought i had all that info in my signature. :oops: Anyway, as it says I have an '01 with the HiFi option (no MOST). When I got the cat it had the stock headunit CDR220(?) and almost no reception (and terrible sound through the CD). I wanted an iPod interface so I swapped out the hu for an Alpine and the reception (of course) didn't improve :cursing: but it sounds much better when using the CD and iPod (speakers and amp are next). Sometime though it is nice to be able to listen to weather report (especially with a Cab :D ) BTW, I did check the TSBs but didn't find anything. Of course I may have been searching improperly (wrong terms) as I am new to the TSBs. Thanks for any help you can provide. Jeff
  19. Can someone please tell me why I should have almost non-existent radio reception? All I've been able to find is some vague reference to a bad ground but no details. Is this bad ground on the booster itself or the radio? And, what does it mean if I disconnect the power from the booster and the reception improves (slighty)? Does this indicate a bad booster? TIA for any insights anyone wishes to share. Jeff
