  1. I change oil and filter every 10,000 kms and when I put the new oil in the gauge is at the max level, when it is time to change again it is at the min.
  2. You can start by reading this thread: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2012 You PCM2 system is v2.0 and you want to upgrade to v3.0. PCM2.1 is the DVD based system found on newer models (cayenne, 997 etc). I think Europe is covered by 3 CDs - which country do you needs maps for?
  3. Yes, I did check it and it's off of an '02 996, so it should fit a '99 996 as well. Did you have the new mounts installed after the noises? Apparently that's a common problem with the old mounts. I am almost certain my car has the latest mounts. It's been quite some time since I checked though, and I cannot remember if there is an easy way to tell.
  4. You don't need any special tools - standard hex wrenches will do just fine. It is a 2-person job since it's quite bulky (not heavy). I am not sure but I think there are 2 different mounts depending on the year - have you checked the hardtop is compatible with the car? I used mine for the first year and this winter I took it to my local porsche dealer to adjust it because it was making way too much noise. The result was equally annoying so I took it off and I doubt I will ever try it again - Athens roads are just too rough for 911s with a hardtop!
  5. I am a little bit off-topic, but may I ask what taxes (if any) you have to pay to import a US car into the UK? Say I buy a car 50,000 USD (or 25,000 gbp) and spend another 1000 USD to ship to the UK. What other costs are involved to get the car on the road?
  6. I have been getting a fault which reads something like "top not in upright position" or something similar. It is not consistent and it appers without having opened or closed the top (the top is closed). The car is MY03 996 cabrio. I suspect it is a problem with the sensor that detects whether the top is closed or not. Does anyone know where this sensor is positioned so I can try cleaning it up or replacing it?
  7. According to my local Porsche dealer (Greece) they are expecting a new set of CD-based maps anytime now. This is going to be the first release since 2006. I am not sure how accurate this info is but I thought you might want to know. If someone can cross-check this with their local Porsche dealer it would be great.
  8. Nice results! I am also thinking of the Dension 500 for using my iPhone as a source of music. I have seen they also sell a bluetooth add-on to the 500 - has anyone tried this?
  9. Quaife LSD does not use discs or clutches and it will last forever (http://www.quaife.co.uk/What-is-a-Quaife-ATB-differential). Regarding installation I am not sure on the 911 but usually it is a matter of replacing the inner part of the differential.
  10. I am very very happy with Continental SpotContact 2 (N rated). It is a great tire all around and I highly recommend it!
  11. This would be my suggestion as well - check the from seal/rim of the hardtop. If you have no problem when the soft-top is up then the hardtop seal is to blame - otherwise it could be the windscreen seal.
  12. Due to the heavy tail, the 911 behaves very well when oversteering even without an LSD. It is not like an M3 but compared to other cars without LSD the 911 is top. If this is such a major concern for you though, I suggest you buy the newest 911 you can afford and if you don't like how it power slides you can always add a Quaife aftermarket LSD which is probably the best LSD you can get (BMW M-differential excluded).
  13. You can use the VIN decoder (scouser's in Renntech) to decode the VIN. I think the 13th digit indicates the type.
  14. Hi! I know the OEM short shifter is blue/cyan in colour. Does anyone know what the colour of the short shifter that comes pre-installed as an option is? Is it also blue/cyan or black? I am trying to find out whether a friend's boxster has a short shifter installed or not. The colour is black.
  15. Hi! I have installed a B&M clone on my 996 and on a friend's 997S. It works great and we are both very happy with it. Now another friend with a 987S (MY05) wants one. Can someone confirm that the same item that works on the 996/997 will also work on the 987S? Thanks, Michael
  16. I think it is probably too early to change spark plus. If you do though, make sure you tell them to CALL YOU if they are going to replace anything else. When I had mine replaced they replaced all six ignition coils because they were beginning to crack - without asking of course.
  17. My 03 cab has the subwoofer on the passenger side of the main tunnel (footwell). It all sounds horible when audiopilot is enabled - otherwise I think it sounds ok. I suggest you make sure audiopilot is off and check the sound settings for each individual source.
  18. I know I am a bit off-topic, but what were the steps in installing the C4S rear bumper to the C2? What were the "few problems" you had to deal with? I had never thought of this mod but it sounds like a great idea!
  19. Thanks for the reply. I am starting getting used to it now and I hardly notice it.
  20. I just installed one of the ebay knock-offs and I have to say I am quite happy with it. The gears are a bit harder to engage but I guess this is normal. Another thing I noticed and maybe related to what is discussed here is that now when in gear the lever is not 100% stable - it rocks left-right and forward-backward a tiny bit (maybe 1-2mm each direction). I cannot remeber how the stock lever was, so I wonder if this rocking is because of the short-shift and whether there is something I can do to get it fixed!
  21. I had the same concerns with MY03 Cabrio and then I got a couple of "Oil Pressure Sensor Failure" messages that dissapeared after a few minutes. Now my oil pressure indication is usually very high but it randomly drops to normal and then suddenly back up again. It is the sensor that is failing but I haven't had the chance to have it replaced yet.
  22. I second that! The LED type is a much better part and looks great. Don't bother fixing the oem part.
  23. Did anyone get to the bottom of this? I have the same issue with my MY03 Cabrio.
  24. Loren, the cable is attached at the top part (where the vertical arrow points) with a spring and runs within the fabric (?) all the way to where the horizontal arrow points. I suspect it is part of the canvas - I just hope it can be purchased separately.
