  2. Has anyone any experience with these filters on other cars? I talked to the owner and he mentioned that the company will start producing them in the April timeframe for Porsches. They are a "lifetime" filter with a 22micron absolute rating which is good, but I'd like to get some first hand knowledge before I spend $180 for it -- $180 can by a lot of OEM paper filters!! Thx.   4. Thanks for the comments. One thing about fuel dilution...and you probably already know this...but they recommend you get your sample when your oil is hot after a drive. Your fuel dilution numbers will be higher if you take a cold sample. I think it might be a good idea to utilize the area in front of the shifter (the "cubby hole") for a couple of small analog gauges, if I can find any that small. I don't use that anyway. I am going to search some more to see what I can find. I was hoping to get some advice from some other Porsche owners that have done this already. I especially miss the oil temp for auto-x. When I get my first oil change...which won't be until sometime next year...I'll post up the results. Thanks, again, -Michael Yes, I always take the car out on the highway and give it a good run -- gets rid of the fuel and water in the oil so I don't get inaccurate analyses. If enough people did UOA's, we could probably talk Loren into setting up a dedicated section on the forum.   5. I replaced my air filter sooner because I thought that it would be dirty due to the sand/salt that's used on the roads here during winter. It takes a while for the city/town workers to clean the sand up after winter, so there's always a lot of airborne dust in the spring months. When I got my used oil analysis back, there were no indications of dirt ingestion (look for Si/Al in an ~3.4:1 ration) so I basically changed it for nothing (was at 17000 miles). If you're in a non-dusty area, getting to 40000 miles on the filter would be easy. BTW, when you do decide to change the filter, use Nick_USA's advice -- I wish I thought of that when I did mine -- it took me 20 minutes (although 15 of the 20 were spent cussing) trying to align the filter element to slide over the mount since I didn't want to distort any of the filter paper.   6. Glad to hear of another Porsche owner that does used oil analyses. I drained my factory fill at ~7500 miles and the next oil change was at ~17000 miles (was supposed to be at 15000 miles, but I was busy). The oil at 17000 miles (with ~9400 miles on it) had a 2.58% fuel dilution measurement on it (should be <2%), so I won't be going past 7500 oil change intervals regardless of what the factory recommends. I did this back in mid-August and posted the analysis here so you can do a quick search for it. It will be interesting to see how much fuel dilution the new models have with their direct fuel injection systems! BTW, the only thing I don't like about the Boxster is the lack of an oil temp/pressure gauge. You may be able to rig up something to read the oil temp because the DME has oil temp as an input (I can read it with the Durametric tool). Regards, paul...

Duram is very helpful and way accessible to discuss the installation and operation of the programs... Can the Duramertic tool show O2 sensor voltage and MAF air flow? Or determine if an MAF is bad by performing diagnostics on it. Thank you Yes, it can show O2 sensor voltage and MAF air flow. The only diagnostic for a MAF that I know of (regardless of tool used) is to see the air flow at idle and then at 2500 RPM and see if it is within spec.   10. I just put a set of Conti Extreme Contacts on my 2007 987. I've had these tires before on a Mercedes E320 (RWD) and I was happy with their performance during winter (and summer, too) in Boston, MA. BTW, the Conti rears only come in 255/40ZR18 -- they don't make the 265/40 size. Since the TPMS is set for either size (summer/winter), I just reset it for the new tires. I didn't even consider them when I bought my Box -- I went to Porsche of Nashua. You may want to go to them (a little more of a drive) and get the PPI done that Westcoaster/White987 recommended.   15. I know the 1qt/600 miles is standard spec for the flat sixes, but didn't realize it was also the same for the V6-V8 Cayennes (normally aspirated). I only added 0.5qt of oil to my Boxster after the first 200 miles, and have never added oil since. I agree with wvicary -- you were told BS and I also don't understand why burning oil helps to reduce emissions. Euro oil companies are coming out with low-SAPS (sulfated ash, phosphorous, sulfur) oils to reduce emissions from burning oil and extending the catalytic convertor life.   16. No, I don't use any additives for fuel/oil. Been buying Shell V-power gas (with 10% Ethanol, which I verified) since I've owned the car (from the same station). I bought enough of the Motul oil for three changes, and the second batch went in this time. Other than the high fuel dilution, the UOA looks pretty good. Regards, paul...
  17. No, it was in the engine for 10 months -- I changed the factory fill back in Oct 07 when the car had ~7500 miles. This is my first Porsche so I don't know if having a fuel dilution above the <2% limit is "normal" for these cars. I hope to change out this oil closer to the 7500 mark next time to see if this oil has an upper limit to its "life". Regards, paul...

  22. Those rev limit values are on the Durametic DME screen, so I would expect that they are also on the PIWIS factory tool. The 18" S wheel size could account for the difference, but I'm too lazy to do the math. Regards, paul...
  23. Did you exceed the rev limiter or did the car come like that? Sounds like someone missed a couple of downshifts. This may or may not impact engine-related warranty service. BTW, Range 1 = 7300-7500 rpms; Range 2 = 7500-7700 rpms. Sounds like you answered your own question regarding km versus miles. Since the DME uses metric units for sensor data, it most likely uses km for distance. I have a Durametric scanner and the DME page doesn't provide distance traveled but instead provides operating hours, so I can't check distance on my car. I don't know why there's a 400 mile discrepancy -- do you have stock ["approved"]wheels/tires on the car? Regards, paul...
