  1. Tested the fans with a new battery and they both activated with the durametric. There seems to be a lot of low voltage issues i suspect a bad alternator.
  2. Ok...Battery tested good ...but ....it wasn't the correct battery for the car so I dropped in a new one. Measured voltage across terminals w/ engine running and got around 10.5 volts. I assume its the alternator or voltage regulator. Will check connections and ground. Any thoughts. Thanks V
  3. OK Thanks gents...I'm counting on you guys getting me thru this project. Lots more questions coming your way. V
  4. Yeah, I had the bumper off briefly before I road tested it(really!) The bumper reinforcement piece was missing and one bracket for it was trashed. AC line a bit banged up. No sign of damage near the fans. Are there 2 fans.. one on each side? Should the durametric turn both on together? Thanks V
  5. Ok.... so it could still be the battery even though I'm only getting 10 or so volts with the engine running across the terminals? V
  6. Did an Alternator test by attaching a multimeter to my terminals with engine running. It read about 12 volts then proceeded to go lower, at some point down to 10.5. I assume the alternator is not charging the battery or there is a connection problem, possibly the ground. The batt is not holding a charge either. Thoughts? V
  7. I tested my fans today(or thought I did) on my 08 Box Base with my Durametric. When I activated the fans I only heard only the R side fan go on and it didn't sound that good, sounded sort of labored and then it stopped after a few moments. Didn't have to stop it with the durametric. Happened when I repeated the test. What is my next step? Thanks V
  8. Ok thanks ...thats what I was thinking...no issue if coils are removed anyway. V
  9. Hi All, Going to do a compression test on my newly acquired Box. Just want to be sure of the procedure: Eng to operating temp Pull all coil packs and plugs Pull Fuel pump fuse Disable Ignitions Sys(not sure how) Attach Comp.gauge Throttle to the floor Crank 5 or so times Repeat for other cylinders then repeat with squirt of oil in each Just not sure how or why to disable ignition sys when all the coils are removed anyway. Can I just un plug the DME in the trunk to do this? Did it before can't remember. Thanks V
  10. So I purchased a 2008 boxster w 42000 miles from a scrapyard. Took for its maiden voyage on the highway and the engine overheated. I added some coolant before leaving cause the low coolant light was blinking. About 40mins in the temp gauge jumped and was pinned to the right with no gradual increase. I also smelled electrical burning. Warning light blinked engine too hot. Immediately shut down...cooled off got it home. The 'eng.too hot 'came on again as I pulled in the garage. Hope I didn't do ant damage to the engine. Today it cranked right over....let in run half hr and the temp gauge didn't move. This issue is the 1st to fix on this long restoration. I'm thinking the thermostat isn't opening and probably needs to be replaced along with the temp sensor. Or...faulty temp sensor isn't allowing the thermostat to open....no signal. Any help would be great. V
  11. Its a manuel trans. I got it out w/paper clip. Gets stuck again after start up. I suspect its batt.or ignition switch. Will try batt. 1st.
  12. Hi All, 2008 Boxster Base, Can't get the key out of the ignition. Read that the batt.has to be fully charged, don't know how true that is. Going to try the paper clip in the window today. Maybe needs new electrical part of the ignition switch? Thanks V
  13. Hi all,99 Boxster I'm swapping a black cluster cover for my grey one. I have to swap the black plastic insert as well cause I customized it to fit the 911 cluster gauge with the batt/oil gauges. I removed all the screws and it seems the cover is glued in at the front leading edge....can't get it out. Any thoughts....heat gun perhaps? Vince
  14. I narrowed down the numbers, they aren't pictured but listed. Thanks v
  15. 99 Boxster. Anyone know what the part #'s are to replace the knee brackets under the dash for a glove box equipped dash. Having a hard time finding out what I need. Thanks V
  16. This is what I'm finding. I compared 2 photos 99 box dash and a 03 they look identical. Maybe wish full thinking!
  17. Correction 996 552 211 03. Somehow there are 2 part#'s associated with this item this is the other one.
  18. Hi All, I'm going to retrofit my 99 boxster dash with one with a glovebox(going from grey to black as well) Is 996 552 109 02 the correct dash for my 99 Boxster. Thanks Vince
  19. Ok well always try simple first. This problem began only after the hardtop install. I unlatched the rear HT latches and the clamshell popped up a bit. I then just lowered till the light went off and buttoned it back up. Apparently it wasn't fully retracted. Oops....thanks for the help JFP. V
  20. Ok.. How do I test it or is it understood its failed?
  21. Not really understanding. The red clip is used to fool the car in thinking the top is up so motion sensor is activated when top is down. You don't install under the hardtop latch..do you? Where is the limit switch?
  22. Yes, I simulated load with a jack under the wheel carrier ...i went up and stopped when the car began to lift off the stand then backed off on the jack a bit to lower the car. I believe the lower control arm was sort of parallel to the ground. The creak went away for a while then it rained and started coming back. It creaks when I turn the wheel...sounds like its from right shock tower. Thought its the shock mount and was gona back it off a 1/4 turn. V
