  1. Tool Pants - Is that the guy with the carbon fiber hood that does not fit well, I have held back about the hood since you told me about it not fitting well. Thanks, Scott
  2. I didn't even notice, it was you, Sorry Hi.. Maybe during the tank change you hit some vacum lines, you really need to dig in there to get to the back hoses; if I read the article right. I was wondering how you were doing, did you ask Ken or Mike at Scott's. You can use carb cleaner to ferret out the leak, spray it around sparingly and it will raise your idle or make it make it drop, when it hits a leak, I have seen both. Be careful though it has ether in it. Poof.... If you need more help give me a buzz.... Scott
  3. Maybe this will help: http://www.dietersmotorsports.com/tech/2000/10-00.html This will get you into the area: http://www.986faq.com/7-0/handbrake.asp Scott
  4. Vacum Leak.... Did you do any work prior to this problem starting up. Scott
  5. Oh... Ok... a charcoal cannister, I was worried you were talking about the expensive valves. Thank you Tool Pants
  6. Tool Pants - please educate me, "Valves", which valves are you referring too...
  7. This may help: PORSCHE 996 CLUTCH OPERATING LEVER UPDATE This includes items necessary to update the clutch operation of early 996 Porsches. The purpose of the update was to eliminate the creaking noise commonly heard from the bell housing during clutch operation. Part # 012 114 719 B – Lever Part # 012 141 777 B – Ball Pin Part # 012 141 741 - retainer Scott
  8. You may find this helpful, it describes how to R/R your air bag and console: http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/obc/obc.stalk.pdf Scott
  9. The secondary emisions pump is the "Air Pump"; if it is secondary, what is the primary air pump. [Not trying to be wise guy - just curious] The vehicle must POST in order to get a base value. All computer systems POST in one fashion or another. This would initiate fault codes if not found to be within specs. It seems the OBDII would analyze the electrical system, since everything is electrical run [almost]. OBDII [bIOS] is then the go between for the ECU and the sensors oil, water, voltage etc... My fan will activate approximately 10 min after running [engine compartment] [my belief to be posting]. Does the secondary air pump have an electrical clutch, so it would pump as you have described, or does it just pop off and blow by when not needed. If it like all of the other air pumps, it is on all of the time and the A/F is changed to compensate for the air being injected [O2 sensor's]. How is this done "The secondary air injection system is deactivated ", if it is direct drive. Thanks, Scott
  10. Has anyone tried the new Krylon ® Fusion on any parts to get the silver color. inclusive of the hood latches. It seems if you do not have anything to match than any shade of silver would be acceptable and only subjective to the individual. My two cents... :offtopic: Mr. RXbox could you post your dimensions for your viewing hole.
  11. Secondary air pump is probably related to the air pump to aid in it's process. I am not familiar with it, I will read about it and get back to you. [being redundant on Tool Pants last comment] The fan you hear in the morning is the fan which cools the oil cooler. I have never seen this fan for myself, but that is what I have read. The reason you hear it in the morning or anytime upon start up is because the vehicle is Posting [Power On Self Test]. It is the computer [ECU] going through basic checks, in order to maintain the engine. Consider your Boxster an F-16 equivalent [stretching a bit], without a computer you don't fly, Boxsters fly, I know I do...
  12. Your third picture looks precariously close to the strut, the second picture is excellent, it looks very supportive and good spot to lift the vehicle. This is the first time [second picture], I have seen that spot being used as a good jacking point. Once again you came through - Tool Pants, you are a plethora of Boxster knowledge. :>)
  13. I have read 5-10 articles on jacking for maintenance and it seems everyone of them causes some sort of damage; minimal in some cases, but still damage. I have seen people go as far as using the strut bars as either jacking points or as jackstand contact points. I have questions about any of the jacking points, beyond the "Stock" jacking point. Has anyone encountered alignment problems after jacking the car or supporting the car from the strut bars. I have seen some pictures which showed obvious flexion in the bar; looked really bad to me. Has anyone used any parts of the vehicle as acceptable jacking points; without incurring damage i.e. wheel carrier etc.. I saw a fatality, which was caused by improper jacking, it was very grizzly, but quick, so needles to say I am fastidious in this area. Thanks in advance, Scott
  14. Does your light go on and nothing else - if so join the club... ;)

  17. I am in San Diego also, but I have only planned for this eventuality, I would suggest Scotts Porsche in National City to check it for you, Good guy's there, very fair. I will probably do mine if it happens. Ask for Ken. (619) 474-5588 I will try to find the web site for you Tell them the guy with the Red Boxster sent you...
  18. Check this out, I bought a spare tank waiting for this to happen: http://www.dietersmotorsports.com/tech/tech9-03-2003.htm Scott
  19. Hey tool pants. I noticed you had a picture, with you near a carbon fiber hood on a boxster or a 996. I have a question for you: 1. Is it considerable lighter. 2. Looks - [is it kind of weird looking] I have a red Boxster and it seems like I have had an accident, and I am using a filler hood, until mine gets fixed. I would appreciate your opinion.
  20. He also blew his motor, buy upping his S/C boost a little to much. Gotta [sic] know when to say enough...
  21. Excellent job, I like the black framing better, it is to bad you cannot see it better with the top down. I was going to do that with the compartment hatch behind the seats. It would take a lot of spacing or molding of the Lexan or plexiglas to the match the curvature of the hatch. I suggest Lexan due to it's potential to withstand blast. I wonder... if you were to put another piece of plexiglass on the inside would it deaden the sound, using the air pocket as an insulator. Still all in all an excellent job by you... man, I hope the maker of the idea doesn't see what kind of money you have saved [DIY] or maybe he should, might wake him up, he seems a little steep... I wonder how he plans on painting the intakes. Maybe his price is the cost of flying out to each person to paint :D
  22. 199.00 for a can of guards red spray paint....Wow....Now I see why he drives such a nice car....
  23. I had a fender bender with mine [someone decided not to stop], after the work was done, I told them I wanted the dealer to check it out for safety reasons. I got the car back and found out they had done nothing to check things out, my wing was rubbing and they never picked up on that, you could hear it go up and down from inside [pretty obvious]. I asked them to align it also do to it being hit, guess what... never did that also... I ended up taking it to small Porsche shop where they took care of my problems. No more dealers for me...
  24. Excellent job, it seems that the bumperettes have a little less shine then your beautiful S. Side note, do you have spacers on the rear wheels and if so what size. Thank you...
