  1. I would read the post by people, and use the search engine to find stuff like that. I have taken most of my pieces out to either paint them or just to be nosey. Once you find the methodology behind some of it, the rest becomes obvious. I have a manual which describes the R & R of the dash, door panels and the such. It is on CD and is in PDF format.
  2. Is that serial or USB [2.0 or 1.0] to the Laptop.
  3. Yes on the PST2, not much better then what your codes describe I would think... Techron gasoline is what is recommended by my dealer, I have run this since I have had it. I have no smoke nor any other problems, you can also get it at autozone "Techron" in a bottle. Kragen has a sale on it currently: two for six dollars. [in my area]
  4. Autozone will read your codes. What size is it. maybe a pic next to a ruler and what size or location in reference to the vehicle did you find it.
  5. Tool pants: I have never heard of this before, can you lead me to where I can locate the code without going to the dealer. Do you know what buttons are to be pushed so I can confirm my code. TIA :D
  6. MY97 One button opens trunk. The other opens the doors and/or sets up the alarm. Does your remote/Fob do something different.
  7. Only One fuel filter: It's under the middle of the car behind the middle plastic cover. The round silver thing. The dealer will have your your radio code. Fuel filter: Fuel filter and P codes Thanks for joining us here. Scott :clapping:
  8. Three button FOB: One button - opens front hood Second Button - opens rear trunk. Third Button - activates alarm/ un-secures alarm. My question if not clear, are the three button FOB's compatible with the two button system. I realize I will have an extra button. TIA
  9. Better get rid of it... It is not a real Porsche, if it did not come from Stuttgart, Germany :) Like mine..... Just kidding.....
  10. Wow, Looks like bearings [looking through your eyes], where are you on the West coast. I would rather defer any judgement to some more testing. Are your plugs getting fouled with oil. Is there a clunking noise... Shavings, brass type are bearings of some sort, unless you have cross threaded something that may be brass. 3.4 for sure if you upgrade. I would keep the motor in an Non Op until you figure it out though. The more you run it the more likely you will do more damage. Sorry :(
  11. You can also try WD-40, it works on tar and the such. Scott
  12. :help: Does anyone know if the three button remote is compatible with the two button system. TIA
  13. R&R=Remove and Replace; thankfully the tranny is in the back, this is the only good thing about working on a Boxster. Mid engine cars are unusually harder to work due to the placement of the engine, and that Germans think everyone has spaghetti for arms. What is really funny is all of my real [Germany born] German friends are huge, so go figure how they do it. If you need to pull it [R&R], it can be done quickly and easily... Unlike most cars the transmission being placed on the end of the car makes it easier to work on.
  14. In the old day's you would yank [R/R] the tranny and try to fix it, before you jumped into getting a new one. Get a second opinion, it may just be a syncro, could be cheap to fix, R&R will probably be your only expense, believe it or not the tranny R/R is pretty easy to do. Try to double clutch and see if it sounds better... Your example of noise does not really help much on the net.. Sorry... I was brought up on VW's and the noise your talking about is a blown head leaking, better hope it's not that.
  15. Yup that is what I was thinking, or some other hose, split at the end Starter fluid or carb cleaner to the rescue...
  16. Tool Pants: Would it not show a lean condition versus a rich condition, The vehicle is probably getting more air then it is used too. What do you think...
  17. "Normal" for you and me, I would suggest allowing your engine to idle for a few minutes upon reaching your location to cool down. Let me give you a caveat though - too long and you will heat up again, you will know this point because your fans will kick on to help cool down. Personally in a warm climate, I would do 1-3 minutes [depending on your driving style.] Turbo engines do a warm down to prevent "coking" of the bearings, but that's another story. Scott :)
  18. Tool pants: I am lost, put in what and found what ???? I appreciate the info though... Thanks, Scott
  19. Start with the cap [replace with above mentioned], pressure check the system and then report back. You seem pretty intuitive to your vehicles needs. I believe you will figure it out upon the pressure test.
  20. Diagnostic: Infrequently, the car will spontaneously drop the engine RPM to almost zero, then seem to catch itself and resume back at the original RPM. Cause: Unknown. Details: A number of owners of Boxsters have this problem while the car is idling. Some people have a direct correlation with the air conditioner being on, whereas other people have had the problem with the air conditioner off. Only some Boxsters have this problem. Some people think it might be a bug in the Boxster's computer controlled electronics. Unfortunately, it is not reproducible on demand, so debugging it is difficult. There is currently no fix, and PAG and PCNA have not even admitted the problem exists. It seems there would be a software patch that could cure some of your problems.
  21. "Loose Change" Sound from Behind Driver Diagnostic: There is a rattle sounding as if you have some loose coins rolling in the engine compartment. Cause: The cable for the cabriolet top being out of adjustment. Details: There is a ball joint where the cable for the cabriolet top connects. If the cable is loose, the joint connection makes a horrendous sound. The cable tension needs to be adjusted. Time in Shop: 10 minutes. Repair Instructions: Open the top to a half-way open position. Then find the ball joints where the cables snap in. There is a bolt on top of the ball joint that turns to tighten or loosen the tension on the cable. Turn this bolt to increase the tension. You might also want to put some grease or lubricant into the ball joint. The cables just pop off the ball joint with a little pressure.
  22. Looks can be deceiving, accuracy and quality of your anti freeze should be checked with an anti freeze hydrometer if in doubt. I have seen ten year old anti freeze "Look" good.
  23. Sorry could not help myself, you left it to open... Good Luck, if I find something I will let you know.
  24. ;) Easy fix go 79 or 81 all fixed and cheap.
  25. Sorry not me, no dealers ever again, I have other options. I will probably try to run the circuit. Hopefully my new manual has some answers. Scott
