  1. There is a TSB for this Rick. But you have to be a contributing member to get at the TSBs. The TSB is titled "Convertible Top Side Flap Microswitch Modification".
  2. What's scary about it? And yes, the bucket is the alarm system..........but not so elaborate :clapping: Seriously though, yeah I know my garage is a bit cluttered (proly an understatement). But it is very functional given that its' the only place in my 18th century home to put my car under cover. My Porker has lived in there for 3 years now and the only problem I have is getting in and out it :roflmao: Hoist works a treat though.
  3. Ditto MikeA's comments. I have no problems opening/closing my top under the hard top when it is hoisted. It's easy to use and once you get used to it you can load/unload your hardtop in under 2 minutes on your own. Here's a pic of my setup. Don;t you just love a tidy garage ;)
  4. John read this ROFLMAO! I am about to put a GT2 bumper on my 2000 C2. PM me your phone number. Cheers,
  5. Probably nobody has moaned and groaned so much as me about the RMS problem. But since Porsche won't do anything about it for me I just live with it in the knowledge that this will be my last Porsche I ever own despite this being my 3rd and I love them to bits. If you want my opinion, just forget about it. Drive it and don't worry. If it's in warranty then get it replaced (even though that probably wont fix it). If it's out of warranty then sh1t happens. I am on my 7th RMS and it's still leaking albeit only 2 drips per month. But I just did a 2800 mile trip to Spain and back and never had a problem and didn't even have to top the oil up once. The drive was as stressful as can be for the car, 700 miles of it through totally empty Northern Spanish mountain roads with 23 other Porkers from PCGB. Believe me when I say, if my engine was going to blow up because of RMS problems it would have done so on that journey. Just drive it and enjoy.
  6. Shure do.........for now anyway.......there's talk of Euros afoot ;)
  7. Let me clarify what I meant to say just in case I didn't get it across. All my detailing products are Meguiars. I am, and always have been for a long time now an avid Meguires user and have met the owner and had a great conversation with him last year at Brands Hatch. The NXT product is brilliant. It brings up a shine like no other product I have used including Zymol, Zaino and Autoglym. Especially on dark coloured cars. However, although Rejex doesn't quite have the shine and lustre of NXT, INHO Rejex does a much better job protecting the paintwork from bird crap and the like. It also does a great job inhibiting muck and grime and it seems to last for months. I am not saying anything is wrong with NXT though. Except when it comes to Glass. Rejex leaves a coat on the glass that simply repels water. Even the window wipers skim over the surface as if water is not there. It leaves a strange mist in its path that instantly clears and brings up visibility. NXT does the opposite. For some reason its as if it creates puddles of water where the rain collects and smears the screen as if on an oily surface. Also Rejex makes it simple to clean off bird and road crap. I have both NXT and Rejex. For a long time I used Meguires Deep Crystal but then heard of Rejex and picked up a few bottles while on a trip in the US. Since then I have been so impressed with it I have stuck with it. Then I was handed a bottle NXT TechWax (which by the way they do a special NXT TechWax for Glass), so I tried it. I was again impressed and switched to NXT but I found that I have to use NXT more often and it doesn;t repel bird crap and road grime very well. In fact despite the incredible gleam it seems to pick it up even more! SO I have gone back to using Rejex. Anyway that's my 2 pence worth.
  8. Berny, What models? 986/987 Boxster, 996/997 Carrera, GT2, GT3, TT and Cayenne would be nice... but if you want to do all Porsche models that will be a BIG project. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes I agree a huge project. The above is a good start. I will leave the program open for updates if other info comes in much like the vin decoder. That way I can add model data as I get it. Still it's going to take some thought. One issue is testing data. For the Vin decoder I collected over 10,000 VIN's from scouring the internet. Mostly from dealer sales websites. I am going to need a fair bunch of varied engine numbers to test with. Not 10,000 but certainly a few hundred. Probably ask people to try it and send me the results. Anyway, the above list of cars is a good start so any info on these you have would be great. Cheers
  9. OK I will get to it. Any other info you can send me Loren would help. Stay tuned.
  10. Loren I could knock up an engine decoder if you want using this info.
  11. Try Rejex on your windows and see. I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised. But don;t do similar with NXT.
  12. Dell, I have to concur with wardhog. I have both Rejex and NXT. NXt is brilliant but IMHO it doesn't come even close with Rejex. NXT however does bring up a deep shine on dark colours but it doesn't have the dust and grime inhibiting protection that Rejex gives. As an example, try using NXT on your windows and you will be sorry....so don't try it ;) But I always use Rejex on my windows. I have a bottle of NXT on my shelf but only use it for my wife's car now ;)
  13. Impressive! I am interested in this as I was going to attempt it myself months back but chickened out. Couple of questions: How high are your ramps? How did you retain the weight of the gearbox? Did you have to shift it back if so how, also how much room did you have to play with considering the clutch and flywheel had to come off too. Or did you drop the gearbox entirely and if so how it's blody heavy! How did you splice the clutch back in and align the gearbox back? Don;t suppose you took any pics of the procedure? Cheers
  14. I had this exact problem and it turned out to be nothing more than a rear left side stop/tail light bulb. The internal centre earth connection was faulty.
  15. I am confused at this comment. My tech engineer last week told me that because the engine is flat it's bad to let it starve of oil, hence always ensure it is at least one below max on the eletronic guage when measure hot on a flat surface but after it settles for 30 minutes. He said that maxing the elec guage is no harm and also if anything it ensures proper compression with a full 9 qts in the engine. This came about because my car started very noisily on a cold morning last week. It sounded like a bag of nails in the engine and the engine coughed and spluttered. It was rectified with a new oil separator. But he said that these cars rev high at start and settle shortly after with an aim to get the oil around the extremely engine quickly. If your down by 2 qts because it may starve the engine at start up.....the very time the most damage is done to the engine. So what is the correct ammount of oil for our cars. Should it be middle of elec guage or the top, or should it be one below the top? Totally confused.
  16. Hi, this would be consistent with a defective oil separator and can seriously damage your engine. Known problem with the older models. I'd have it checked out by a garage ASAP and certainly would not redline it. I don't want to cry wolf, but it's certainly a possibility. Cheers, Uwe <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My car and another friends 996 both had the oil separator switch replaced last week due to a frightening noise at start up that sounded like a bag of nails in the engine. All is OK now. But my car never needs to be topped up despite all its RMS trouble. In fact I just did 2800 plus miles to Spain and back and it was driven hard and it didn;t use a drop of oil.
  17. Last week on my way back from Spain I hit some debris in the road and it clean snapped my front lip of the car and snapped it in two :( I was looking at the Mk2 GT3 front lip as Dell fitted but looking at my Kahn body kit (GT3 front style) it has a dip in under the bumber at the sides so the oem lip won;t fit. Unfortunatly Khan said they don;t make this body kit any more. So I need some suggestions for an alternative replacement or am I stumped. Here's my front PU.
  18. What sort of front bumper is that in the second pic? It's a pre 02 bumper by the headlights, looks like a GT3 type but with GT2 upper vents. I like it. Any more info on this bumper?
  19. Nice work Del. What did it cost you for the lip? I lost my front lip in Bordeaux last week. Hit something in the road and it clean snapped in half and was left on the road. Made the 2800 mile trip to Spain and back in one piece though ;) Had great fun and car behaved itself perfectly. No oil used!!!
  20. Thanks Loren, All is OK. I found the screw I droped into the alarm unit below the passenger seat ???? Nothing damaged. Cheers.
  21. This DIY is only for RHD pre-face lift 996 or 986 cars driven in countries where traffic drives on the right. In those countries it is necessary to mask your RHD headlamps so that oncoming traffic is not blinded by your headlamps. In most EEC coutries it is "compulsary" to mask your headlamps and on-the-spot fines may be given to RHD cars that do not comply with this regulation. If you have Litronic lamps then you do not need to apply this DIY. Your vehicles user manual will tell you how to configure the lamps for driving on the right or left. Otherwise you will have to purchase or make these masking stickers. Porsche sell a set (2) of these masking stickers. Part # 996.631.137.00 While they are only £20 to purchase, they are only stickers and are very easy to make. I suggest you choose a stcking material that you can easily peel off when you return your car to LHD traffic. Unlike the ones supplied by Porsche which are a real pain to get off! The two pictures provide the measurements of the masking stickers and where they are placed. The scan is real size and you should be able to simply print it off (twice) to make your stickers.
  22. Any instructions for removing the passenger seat? I can't see where they are bolted. Cheers
  23. Loren, My wife took the digital Camera with her to London so couldn't take any pics. Next time I take the dash pod off I will take pics.....and it comes off quite often ;)
