  1. Apologies in advance for resurrecting an ancient thread....the left rear corner of my sunroof headliner is bunching-up on something inside the roof slot. It will open all the way, but then has great difficulty closing again because of this catching gooey liner. I'd like to remove the sunroof liner and see if this is still a problem without it (maybe replace with a salvage alcantara). The instructions I've read are that the roof needs to be tilted up and liner needs to be carefully and manually pulled forward to unclip from the rear retention clips...this makes perfect sense...but then it says I need to keep pulling a further 1-2 inches which doesn't seem possible in tilt mode (as far as I can tell). Can anyone offer more thorough instructions on how to remove this panel without breaking any of the 18 year old plastic clips? Hoping this is easy!
  2. I'm in the same boat. Passenger door mechanism self-terminated in the locked position. :censored:
  3. Bumping a year-old thread...my passenger-side door lock mechanism has packed it in. Only problem is that it self-terminated in the "locked" position. Driver-side key, central lock, and inner pass handle do not release. Is there a clever alternative way to release this door lock? Part two is: has anyone successfully removed the passenger side door panel from inside the car, while it was locked? :cursing:
  4. The rubber is so goo-like that I use it's viscosity to mold or stretch it with my fingers and push it back to where it is supposed to go. Probably not what Dr Ferdinand would do, but it works.
  5. For spirited everyday driving on my C4, I've tried P Zero Asymmetrico, and about 5 sets of N rated Michelin PS2. On the last re-shoe about a year and a bit ago, I went with what was then a "new" Michelin Super Sport tyre. They've held up well and still some tread left. 20% cheaper and higher UTQG rating has meant better value for me. Roadholding seems comparable. I'll replace with the same without regret until something better comes along.
  6. Kind Sirs, need a helping hand in diagnosing some problems. Here is the trail of annoyances: Upon unlocking the car, the passenger window began intermittently auto-lowering when guests opened and closed that door. I'd have to manually crack their window a bit before and after to be sure and avoid the discomforting glass overlap. I lived with that for awhile. About the same time, the external passenger door handle became temperamental - I could manually open door lever from inside car - by reaching across from driver's side. Or if I turned car off and on again it would sometimes work. For a brief while I outsmarted these pesky actuators by pressing the "never-used" central locking switch - which successfully unlocked their door - for awhile. Not so anymore. Additionally, it now sounds like the passenger window regulator is beginning to pack it for good. Probably the 3rd or 4th time over 8 years and always the passenger door for some reason. Anyway, obviously I will be ordering the new window regulator. Q1. How does one get the door to open to install it? Q2. Does it sound like all three door actuators are shot (central lock, inside handle, outside handle), or is it the whole door lock mechanism? Anyone else had this ensemble issue? Help appreciated!
  7. Sorry, you are correct, for your car MY04 high beam is H11. I have MY99 with first generation litronics and the high beam for those is indeed an H7.
  8. Yes, this is a very easy 5-10 min DIY. I did similar research a few years ago and then installed Sylvannia Silverstar Ultra as high beams; a big improvement in nighttime illumination and as yet no burn-in. Size is H7 for high beam. Great idea - go for it.
  9. Once the "headlight herpes" starts, you'll want to lay some painter's tape around the hood and fender paint surfaces and wet sand with 2000-8000 grit until the yellow is gone, then use a polishing ball kit from 3M, Maguirs, Mothers, etc. Some old skoolers even use toothpaste or Brasso. They should look brand new at this stage. A clear coat should be reapplied asap or they will fade to yellow again. Even following all the directions, and applying 3M Protectant, I find myself having to re-do our fleet's sun-hazed headlights a couple times a year - perhaps there is something better out there?
  10. There used to be a lot of these floating around on Ebay for 996 Mark 1. Many Boxster owners had upgraded to litronics on their lease cars and reverted back to stock at end of lease. Scrap yard might be a better place to look now.
  11. It's a normal Schrader valve pump. I sometimes use it to pump up our kids' bike tires. It is a smaller and lighter version than your typical Walmart variety, and it gets hot as the Dickens. Not for heavy duty use, ie, You wouldn't want all the neighbor's kids gathering at your house with their bikes. It would probably blow up. The advantage is that it is small and light and fits inside the deflated spare for very occasional use.
  12. My dog loves the 911. As soon as I crack the front door, he lunges his nose in ahead of me and finds the best spot to perch. Sometimes I have to take him for a short drive just to satisfy him that it's time to get out!
  13. Dangit, I have same prob in my 99 996C4...was there a happy/simple resolution to this?
  14. The 997 SSK gets lots of good reviews over stock shifter. I already have the B&M SSK and EVO billet linkage right now - is it possible to reuse any of those billet components if I got the 997 SSK, or is the upgrade that much better that it won't matter? Thanks guys!
  15. Does anyone have access to a shop manual or a link to a Porsche 996/986 6-speed schematic with part numbers? I can't get my 99 C4 into reverse because a white "L-shaped" plastic piece on the left side of shifter that engages the reverse gear has completely disintegrated...need that part number! Cheers!
  16. Thanks for that suggestion, it sounds like exactly the right stuff: Amazing GOOP Uses: Attach loose auto trim and emblems
  17. Miscreant Yout's separated 2 of my new OEM enamel wheel crests from the silver backing. One of the crests is salvageable other was bent with a screwdriver or key. Glad the tophy hunters didn't go for the bonnet crest. In any case, is there any recommended glue to re-affix these so they stay put when I'm giv'ner? Also, not sure I want to bother pressing the crest on for 30 mins...Crazy Glue? Not a huge biggie, should I just get another set?
  18. Hi there, my 1999 996 C4 is having the same mysterious prob this week. I can manually lock doors, but key is not opening remotely with strong LED lighty thing and fresh remote battery. Would be interested in whether monro86 issue has been resolved and what the solution was. Thanks!
