  1. I would check the rubber pieces on your left-front control arm for any wear. Also check your left-front cv boots for any tears; if so, then the next thing is to see if the joint inside is FUBAR...may need to replace. Because you've had this problem since you bought the car, you don't know how long the part has failed or been damaged - this could result in other problems popping up if you don't fix right away...it gets more expensive the longer you wait that is.
  2. I'm sorry to say (hope I'm wrong) that I think your xmission is toast. I have a tip and the tell tale signs were erradic shifting and loss of power immediately after it went. I just had enough torque left from the converter to push me across the intersection and safely towards the curb. I was fortunate to have a cop right behind me to help me push my Boxster completely off the drive path and put flares out while I waited for the tow truck. The engine runs great, but no gears available. A rebuilt xmission will cost less, if you know a reputable rebuilder, else, look at $6k-$11k for a Porsche remanufactured one; Sunset is the cheapest OEM source. I found a reputable rebuilder for $3.5k that gives a 2 yr warrantee; make sure the rebuilder is able to buy OEM xmission part, i.e. ZF. If the torque converter is not toast then your rebuild will cost less. While the xmission was out, my new Indy decided to check out the IMS, and sure 'nough that was on it's way out, so I'm glad the engine was able to be saved prior to the IMS failure; I was shown the old IMS and they also took video when they took it out; bearings were still intact, but you can see the seal was getting ready to give way. I had them replace the old IMS with one of Jake Raby's IMS retro fit, since the tranny was already out - made perfect sense. All the best to you and your p-car. I had no issues for about 123k-miles until the tranny went, aside from normal maintenance. I drive the car like I stole it everyday, so that probably didn't help, but it's a Porsche!
  3. The code worked like a charm...I can now put away my sound link speaker. Thanks! Much Aloha/Kimo
  4. Thank you, Loren I will give it a try after my mandatory hour wait time. Aloha/Kimo
  5. Hello, I did a bad thing by removing my CLU from under the driver's seat without disconnecting the battery first. Now, I've misplaced my radio code card and have an airbag warning light constantly on, which the dealer will reset for me. Please help with my radio code, if possible. Here is the info from my CR-220. Becker 1 Type 4362 SN X5019090 47/98 Thank you in advance!
  6. I just recently purchased and installed Pedro's TechnoPower2 (TP2) gadget on my 2.7L TIP 986. First, let me say that Pedro's gadget works as advertised (I don't have a dyno sheet, as a caveat). I recommend the TP2 for any 986 owner...you will not regret the extra power; however, see my before modifications, below, which I would highly suggest to take advantage of additional torque and HP increases from the TP2. If you have no idea what the TP2 is, please go to Pedro's Garage website. Pedro provides you good instructions and a help-line...if you get stuck; it's not that hard, except for one part (below). Also - Pedro did not have a 2.7L TIP program set up, prior to mine, but he now has it; I was the guinea pig. I made a few recommendations to Pedro to help others out during installation. Although, Pedro is just a call away if you need him to talk you through; he's extremely helpful. Reflections after 500 miles of test/grin "varied" driving (and no CEL): - definite gains in torque (seat-of-pants dyno - but the obvious torque increase is enough to dismiss the money-out-of-wallet dyno effect). My Boxster is my daily driver, so I definitely notice any changes. Believe me, it's a considerable increase in torque...way better that the coffee can ricer gadets...lol. - throatier exhaust sound is a bonus (i already have a DIY sports exhaust) - bonus ROW reprogram...Pedro reprog'd my DME to ROW, so I can delete the 2ndary air pump--> weight savings. Other modifications before Pedro's TP2: - Fabspeed headers w/ sportcats - 2ndary cat-delete pipes - DIY sport muffler - Cold air intake mod (dry cone filter) - lowering springs - TechnoTorque (can't reuse due to larger 997 S TB ); you can, however, reuse the rubber gasket...fits in nicely and no leaks...below is old gasket on the new 997 S TB T-section....exact fit. - PowerChip reprogram Some photos: In the Box (Pedro needed my CLU+key...guinea pig duties) Before After (I had to cut the elbow by 3/4" to give me room for the rest of the piping...hence the extra protection tab) The elbow to TB was a very tight fit...and consumed most of my installation...olive oil around the rim was the difference in the end...I was smoked (i.e. my butt was kicked) even tried using a spoon...prior to the olive oil...LOL AOS tube broke during installation...Pedro's instructions address this possibility and provides a solution: went to Lowes and bought a 3/4" heating tube for 50 cents. Dealer charges $148 + tax for the tube fittings alone... Only one problem (my fault) - I have an airbag warning light on because I removed the CLU (under left seat) without disconnecting battery first. Pedro needed my CLU to get the 2.7L TIP baseline program; my DME was write-protected from PowerChip. If there is anyone in the DC area with a Durametric that can help me reset the warning airbag light and want to see Pedro's TP2 up close, please let me know. I'm definitely a satisfied customer...and I'm not affiliated with Pedro's Garage in any way. I'm just sharing an experience that I think others may feel useful.
  7. WOW...beautiful with unseen potential energy just oozing out of it. You will have one Angry Boxster that will shock anything on the road. I can't wait to see and hear the end product. Best of Luck! Hoku 2000 2.7 Boxster - Tiptronic
  8. Todd, I am jealous of your technical know-how. I'm very interested in your swap of my 2000 Boxster 2.7 with your 3.6, however, I'm in central North Carolina. Also, to add to the technical difficulty I have a Tiptronic. To satisfy my curiousity, I will monitor your progress through this forum, since it is a goal of mine to sometime upgrade my engine. Good Luck! :renntech: Hoku 2000 2.7 Boxster - Tiptronic
