  1. Too bad your not in Southern California.... I have the durametric pro series.
  2. Update: It's been a couple of weeks and still NO CEL  . All I did was clean the throttle valve, added Chevron fuel injector cleaner, checked for intake leaks (none), and changed fuel filter. Thanks Loren and everyone for there help.
  3. Hi, If you want to read the DME, then you will need the Durametric reader. It will read the stage 1 and 2 ignition which will tell you if the car has been reved passed the limits (do a search). As for the manual from Sunset.....it's pretty useless for new car buyer. All it tells you is the meaning of the codes and possible problems. Good luck
  4. So.... the only way to replace the AOS is my removing the transmission on a 996? Is that right?
  5. Mineral oil? What is the advantage of adding mineral oil as oppose to just leaving the oil you got in there?
  6. Never really checked or care... I drive her and enjoy her... and when she needs gas I just fill her up.
  7. Hi Everyone, Has anyone ever changed the starter on a 99 Boxster? I have done a 996 and wondering if the Boxster is the same set up. If it is, that means I have to tackle the job from the top and considering the boster is a mid engine....looks like I have to crawl on top of the car... Is that correct or is it accesible from the bottom? Is there a DIY write up somewhere? Thanks in advance.
  8. Make sure you clean all the left over residue from the old sticky tape..
  9. Have you checked the voltage before and after you turn on the lights with the engine on? It shouldn't drop too much. If so, your alternator could be going bad or weakening. My durametric reads my voltage with all lights on including fog at 13.7 ish sometimes a little higher. Good luck
  10. Check your number 1 and 4 plug and coil pack..could be bad. Good luck
  11. Hi Loren...thanks for the speedy response. Okay, so I cleared the code once more. Check for any intake leaks. Then... CEL back :o P0300, 0306, 0304, 0305, 1128, 1130, 0507 I am assuming that since my idle is still high that I have an intake leak somewhere that's causing the lean reading, thus the 1128, 1130, and 0507... but how about the misfire in one side? I do have a few more questions: 1. Do you have a diagram of the vacuum lines to check? 2. How do I know if the air/oil separator is bad? 3. The oil seals on the oil cap looks fine...should I just go ahead and change it anyway? Thanks again for your help
  12. Thanks for your response Loren, Questions? When you say throttle valve? Is that the same as the throttle body? Intake leaks... I'm assuming it would be between the air filter housing and the throttle body...right? Thanks for your time.
  13. Hi Everyone, Well my 2001 C4 CEL went on today. Before it lit up I noticed that the idle was a little higher than normal. So I took out the handy dandy Durametric to see what it was... Here are the codes it showed P0507, P1128, P1130. So I went ahead and cleared them and started the car...idling eratic and check engine light went on again... P0300, P0304, P0305, P0301... (mis fires). I did a little research here in Renntech and all I saw was clean throttle body and check for intake leaks. I did both.. the idle did improve after cleaning the throttle body... but the idle is still a little high. Then....CEL back on with P0507. Any idea? Thanks everyone in advance
  14. You might also want to check the Alternator since that too has a moving pulley that could also cause the sound you are refering to. With 102k miles and living in a rural area....why not. I would change it since it is not that hard to do anyway. Good luck.
  15. Yes, love this site. This site has helped me alot. Thanks Renntech :renntech:
  16. Dealer manuals are pricey... I recommend renntech.org ;) :renntech: use the forum and search. It has helped me alot.
  17. Yah, I have never seen this happened before. I have changed many Porsche brakes and other cars but this is a first. An update.....I threw in the towel and sent it out to goldlinebrakes.com in Washington. Before I decided to do that....I called my local Porsche dealer to see if I can purchase the caliper piston. No luck, they do not sell them. They said that I needed to buy the whole caliper which list for $650 ish. 2nd option call Brembo and see if I can purchase the caliper piston from them. The rep said that they do not sell the pistons and claims that Brembo calipers never need rebuilding.......Then I asked why they sell the rebuid kit? His response........"good question". Next option....junkyard. No luck, all they had were the black and red one...Mine are the C4 silver color. Why I am so picky...I don't know. So I decided to order from Sunset Porsche $450 ish. But wait....1 month wait...special order from Germany. That is when I decided to call John in goldlinebrakes.com. He assured me that he can fix my problem. I'll let you guys know when I get it back.
  18. This is way beyond the hook thing....It looks like it was rusted in there. I wonder anyone else had to deal with this situation.
  19. Not enough space to use a puller. What I just did right now is I was able to pull out the pistons out of the caliper. I pushed air into where the brake line connects to. Held the other pistons down and the 2 pistons that I wanted out came out.....well 1 of 2. The other I had to pry it out, damaging the upper surface of the piston. This has been a brake job from hell. Still worth it though. :D Now I am trying to take out the rest of the rubber seal out of the caliper. Using a blade and flat head screw driver. IS THERE AN EASIER WAY? Thanks again!
  20. Hi Everyone, I have a problem. I have a 1999 C4 and I was changing my brakes pads and rotors. Everything went well except..... the front right/ passenger side. My problem is that the silencer broke off in the piston caliper. The 2 metal round tubular thingy is stuck in the piston of the caliper. I have tried WD40....PBlaster...soaked them for half the day. Tapped it with a hammer and screw driver without a budge. Turn the screw and the whole piston is spining with it. I am currently letting them soak overnight and go at it again tomorrow. Any suggestions? I do not feel like buying a new caliper if I really do not have too. If this does'nt work I might take it to a brake specialist and have the caliper rebuilt. Has anyone ever had this problem? Thanks......
  21. i received the same email....Does anyboy have experience with their headers? I have their short shifter and love it, I personally do not feel a difference with the B&M. Thanks.
  22. I had the same issue. Starter just went bad. 99 C4 with 50K miles. Better the starter than the RMS. I ended up doing it myself. It's been a couploe of years but from what I remember it was pretty easy. Don't forget to disconnect the battery. I took lots of pictures as I was removing and unplugging things.....that help alot. remove airbox, throttle body, the the black manifold behind the throttle body. I do not recall removing the alternator. Once you remove all that you will see the starter....I did not even have to jack up the car...you do everything from the top. NO special tools just long extension and swivel sockets. It turns out that all I have to do was take the cover off my starter and blow air thru it to clean the brushes to get all the dust off and worked perfectly fine..So far no problems 10k+ miles later..... I was really suprise how easy it was. BTW while I had everything taken apart I cleaned my throttle body and everthing I can reach. Good luck
