  1. I'd go with what Porsche says over what your driving instructor says. Unless of course he's a mechanical engineer with years of experience on suspension components and tire engineering.... You might tweak your pressures on the track a little... but for daily driving, go with the specs provided by the manufacturer.
  2. Swap cars? Just give your keys to the other guy, and take his. There. Cars swapped!
  3. I don't think anyone is making a module for something like this... Some car alarm company or similar would have to come up with a unit that would do all this stuff on it's own, then adapt it to piggy back on existing security systems... probably not an easy task. Feasible, but not easy.
  4. Definitely could be a seal. At first I'd think the Air Oil Separator might be gone, but you likely wouldn't have a trail of oil... Get it to a wrench and see what they say. If you have a warranty on it, it should come in handy! Oh yeah, and it always helps if you tell us what year and model your car is. I.e. '2001 base Boxster' or '2003 Boxster S'.... since there are some minor difference from year to year that we might need to take into account when diagnosing problems.
  5. I have that same type of rattle... sounds like the window in the door is rattling in there! I'm gonna have to pick up some WLG and try this!

  7. I think it could be retrofit pretty easily. Replace the key cylinder lock with just a rotating knob. This would turn the ignition switch. A piggy back module could connect to the vehicle's security system, and tell it to - lock or unlock the doors based on proximity of the key, allow the ignition switch to turn on the car and start the engine. It should be pretty easy to do, IMHO.
  8. They look kinda nice. I'd prefer a symmetrical design... the spokes look asymmetrical... so they'll look like they're going one way on one side of the car, and the other on the opposite side. I have the 'twists' on my car, and they are my least favorite p-car wheel. Someday I'll remedy that. I echo what people say here. Bigger wheels will affect the power you can get to the ground, and how fast you can get it there. They will affect ride quality, and will result in more expense for tires. I'm happy with my 18" wheels, and if I replace them with the ones I want, I'll probably stick with the same sizes.

  10. I wish my top issue were that easy.... .. however... we had some great weather this past weekend, and I put the top down a few times... and it worked normally every time. Tool Pants... do you think a wet security module under the driver's seat could affect anything? I need to find the circuit diagram to check it... but the only things I can think of are temperature (something wasn't making good contact when cold) or moisture (the area under my driver's seat was pretty wet due to rain... resolved by cleaning the drain in the top compartment). I probably will still remove the top latch switch assembly and check it, since the other member here found a broken solder joint. I HOPE it's something that simple!

I noticed mine was running around ~95 degrees c so a few hrs ago I got this crazy idea to clean out the radiators in my 2001 S Farout what a pain in the *** job that is lol, its 4am now and I just finished :) But honestly the amount of **** that came out was staggering, they were quite clogged up, I even found shedded snake skin :S http://www.realtime.net/~rentner/Porsche/R...r/Radiator.html That guide is quite helpfull, but honestly id be quite happy to never have to do that again lol Good luck And the sad fact is, they'll load up with crap again over time, and you'll have to do it again! I need to do this on mine soon... just like the link you posted, I'm also in Austin (Texas), and it can get pretty freakin HOT here! We already hit 90 (F) this past Sunday. BTW, thanks for the link... I needed to find something like that so I will know how to get into it!
  12. I think I'm going to order some Raggtopp right now... and a good brush for it... The weather MIGHT be good enough on Friday to wash the car... and I'd like to be able to clean up and treat the top while I'm at it.
  13. #1 Flat engines will often produce a puff of smoke at startup due to oil settling in the cylinder heads. They are not elevated above the level of the crankshaft (as in a V engine), so the oil doesn't completely drain. #2 #3 Remove your front bumper skin and clean out the radiators and condensers. They are known to fill up with dirt and crap, and need to be cleaned periodically. Check your coolant level and make sure it's where it needs to be.
  14. Rascal, I'm sure the blue LED mod isn't TOO difficult, but having some documentation never hurts. I much prefer blue illumination to amber. If I found a source of adequate LEDs and at least a little documentation on at least the gauge cluster modifications, I'd definitely like to attempt it. I'd have to brush up on my soldering skills... it's been a long time since I've used 'em. I think the idea you had for the changing color illumination on the tach could be pretty dang interesting. Personally, I'd be going from blue to amber/red as the revs go up... but that's just me. Definitely post when you do it!
  15. You mean like Porsche's KESSY (Keyless Entry keyless go/control unit) used on the Cayenne? I don't think it has been offered on anything except the Cayenne yet. Something like that, yeah. Seems to me it would be do-able as an aftermarket add on... It would just interface with the security system and could be wired to the ignition. I'd like it like this: I put the 'key' in my pocket. Walk out of my apartment, up to my car and it unlocks automatically. I get in, flip a switch or turn a knob, then push a button and the engine starts. Then I drive away. I get to where I'm going, flip the switch or knob to shut off the engine, and exit the vehicle. As soon as I'm X feet away, the doors lock and the alarm arms.
  16. I'd like to have something like Nissan's SmartKey... Basically, as long as the key is in proximity of the car, you can switch it on and start it. No need to take the 'key' out of your pocket.
  17. I think Park Place Porsche is where I ordered my nice Porsche caps. I got two - one white and one black. White is nicer in the hot sun because it does not get too hot. It's a plain white ballcap with grey stitching, no big logo on the front, just 'Porsche' embroidered on the front edge of the brim, and on the back left next to the adjusting strap. It covers my noggin quite well!
  18. Raggtopp is the most commonly used and recommended product. There is a cleaner/wash, and a sealer/protectant. Get both (the Canvas type). I have not thrown the clean on my top yet, and don't have any Raggtopp yet... but I need to order some soon... the top is looking kinda grody, and there are a couple remnants of bird bombs on it. (The top will be replaced within the year, so I'm not TOO concerned about it) I AM curious, though, to see how good a job Raggtopp does on my top, since it is a bit dirty. When I get some, I'll post before/after pictures.
  19. Bogg, I had no idea anyone did an amber to blue interior/gauge illumination mod! I'd love blue instead of amber in my car. My previous car was about the same way, and a few people had figured out how to swap in blue LEDs. Is that how you did that to your peices? Got a 'how to'? BTW, Rascal, if you look at Bogg's pictures, there is one that has a push to start button in the dash (opposite of where the cig lighter goes), but it's kinda blurry.
  20. £50 for a stereo? That's about.. .what... $70 US. That's cheap. I mean cheap. In a lot of ways, you get what you pay for, and a £50 head unit is probably crap. Sure, the Boxster's audio equipment isn't the greatest... but putting in a poor head unit won't help much.
  21. Easy remedy if you NEED it tinted rear window, replace the top with a glass window top. I've kicked around the idea of having the windows tinted once I put a glass window top on...
  22. I think you should try removing the top latch switch and see if something in there is muffed. Likely it's not registering that the latch is closed. Maybe there's a bad ground in there... A bad ground could cause noise to come through the stereo.
  23. I'd guess white lithium grease on the parts of the top. Keep us updated if you find anything.
  24. I believe 18x8 front and 18x10 rear is the widest you can use, even with spacers. I could be mistaken.
