  1. Thanks again. I will do the search on replacing the sensor tonight when I can do it from a pc and not my phone!
  2. Thanks Loren! It is the stock radio, but it has been making a loud interference noise at random which is why iI thought it might be the cause. Is there a test procedure for the interior sensor (I assume this is the one behind the alien eyes) or do I jusr have to replace it? Is there a good resource for listing the switches and sensors and what alarm code/zone is generated with each?
  3. Loren, i set the alarm with the double key press to disable the interior motion sensor and the alarm never triggered. My assumption is the interior sensor or the radio connection. Do you know if the radio alarm wire is tied to the interior alarm?
  4. Thanks Loren! Also my stock stereo has been occasionally sounding like there is interference for about 5-10 seconds. I am going to order the stereo removal tools and pull the stereo to check the wiring there as well, Going to try to set the alarm tonight and disable the motion sensor to see if it still goes off to help isolate the source of the issue.
  5. Could use a little help! My alarm is randomly going off. The doors lock, the alarm sets, and no horn beep as normal. After an hour or two, the alarm just starts honking so I can't leave my car locked anywhere. Hooked up my Durametric and got alarm code 60 (frequency 1) and alarm code 33 (frequency 2). Thought I could set the alarm and check frequencies again once it went off, but they did not increment. Next step is to set the alarm and disable the interior motion to see if it still goes off. Do not think it's related, thought I'd mention it though, but the car was recently in the shop for a clutch/AOS/IMS Retrofit/RMS. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! 2000 996 Cab
  6. I decided to go ahead and install them (seller was ok with this) to see if the sound was affected and it was. I do not think the "light sand" sound when I shook them was causing the issue because one of the cans sounded fine. The other was horrible. It sounded like something broke loose inside, so I will be returning them this week. This was my fear too, but I was hoping... I am very bummed out as I have wanted pse since I bought the car.
  7. Please help! I purchased a used set of PSE cans, and when they arrived, they sound like there is a lot of metal shavings rattling inside them. Are they shot, is this just the beginning of the end, or are they ok? The seller has indicated that they sounded great on his car, and recommends that I install them to see how they sound. I know it is not much to install them, but I am in a cold area, so it will be a bit more of a project. One actually sounds like it has a larger "chunk" inside. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  8. The above is good advice regarding Sunset Imports (Oregon) and Suncoast (FL). These are the best places to order OEM parts with the best prices, and they have great service too. I recently got a quote for the side vent and it was considerably less than $107.
  9. I plan to do this when it gets warmer here... Dupli-Color makes a brush on kit. Here is some good reading on the subject with a few options. Most use xenonmods for the decal. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-...ipers-pics.html http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-...d-top-hats.html
  10. Yes, This part is to protect the top when the metal "hook" it latching. If you need to operate the top without this piece in place, you must lower the top and manually move it away from the latch before you continue - the metal latch will damage the top otherwise! I believe I paid under $30 from Sunset Imports. Here are some pics of it installed.
  11. Just my .02, but I would not add a crest to a steering wheel airbag. If the airbag goes off, you have a pointed metal projectile aimed at your face. The OEM crests are riveted to the airbag.
  12. I have not tried it yet, but my understanding is that the following cable (with a separate noise filter spliced in) will charge the iPod and play music. The power can be spliced from the phone connector. http://www.pie.net/pie_store/shopexd.asp?id=616&bc=no
  13. This part does come off by itself, less than 30-40 minutes for the first time. Do a search on how to remove the hazard surround and switch, this is the hardest part - be careful, the leather "dents" very easily. I would try a leather shop first, there is a Rennlist site sponsor that may be able to help (no affiliation). Leather http://www.928leathershop.com/ To remove the hazard switch http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...5&hl=hazard
  14. See my post, #9. I still have the top/window (never got around to posting it for sale) if you are interested. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...c=22932&hl=
  15. I'd love to make it next time, let me know when you get together again. A PM works best, since with a 3y/o daughter I do not get much time online anymore... I am currently a Controls Engineering Supervisor for Chrysler in Advance Manufacturing - Power Train (engine, transmission, and axle advance manufacturing), and my background is Electrical Engineering. Thanks for the info re Lockheed and Gulfstream - I will check both of them out. Regards, Don
  16. There is an instruction manual that you can download from the Durametric website that may be helpful, here is a snapshot. They also have a help line - 888-854-5523 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific Time.
  17. Not sure if I can make it on Friday just yet, but I will let you guys know. Do you mean D_ck O'Dowds - 160 W. Maple - Birmingham? -Don Can't make it tonight, family in town. Let me know if everyone meets up again. Have a great weekend! We have a tentative date/time of 9:30 pm this Friday at Richards. Can you guys make it? I have to show you guys the new engine!!! It also whines like an F1 car(not really but it's in my mind). Today I drive 3.5 hours down to Wooster, OH, with new tires. Regards, Ken i'll be there sometime between 9:30 and 10. Guys - I will not be able to make it tonight. My company (Chrysler) just announced that they are laying off 25% of the corporation's salaried workforce by the end of this year. I do not know how much longer I will be employed at this time, and need to start planning and making arrangements. Unfortunately, this will most likely include putting my beloved pcar up for sale. If you know of any companies that need an engineering manager/supervisor - please let me know.

  19. ken, thanks for the offer. if i end up with a mixed set of tires i'll keep you in mind. we should all get together before the weather gets too dicey. i'd say beers and stories would be a good idea. i might even be available this saturday. Beers and cars sound good to me, and do I have a great horror story... This Saturday is out for me though (daughter's birthday party), but it would be nice to talk cars with someone that was actually interested. Let me know if/when something gets set up.
  20. sucks about the the retirement account. i feel your pain. looks like my plans for early retirement are down the tubes as well. from what i've read on other lists, you might be able to get some of the labor costs reimbursed. perhaps 1/2. good luck with that in any case. for you and DFC69, i highly recommend http://www.gilsonmotorsports.com/ as an indie mechanic. howard has a great shop and if you're a PCA member, i believe the labor rate is $70/hr. now i'm off to find winter wheels and tires for my 996. i use mine as a daily driver and intend to drive it until it falls completely apart, hopefully in 5-6 years *knock on wood*. I have been reading a lot of adds for Gilson Motorsports in the P4, the labor rate is unbelievable, I glad you posted with a recommendation as it's always nice to have options.
  21. Ken - Glad you got your car back! Bummer on the cost, but it could have been much worse. The biggest downer is that it happened in the first place, like you said, properly maintained with lower miles. My experience with Mark was beyond bad, but happy that yours went well. We're only a few miles apart, maybe we'll run into one another and I'll tell you the whole saga over a beer, or six... Enjoy your new car!
