  1. Here is a picture of the variable camshaft timing actuator. The cylinder is the solenoid that controls the oil pressure on the chain ramps:
  2. I'll measure later and post what I find. But, do Boxsters not have oil pressure gauges?
  3. I measure ~19 ohms on the variable side of the sensor from my '99 when there is no pressure. If you use the factory sensor with a non-factory gauge, you'll want to use compressed air with an independent gauge to make sure the sensor and gauge play together.
  4. The evap core is $163 in the aftermarket. But unless you have gauges and a vacuum pump, it might not be practical to repair it yourself. However, if you want to invest $300 or so in tools, it is not difficult stuff to do.
  5. You turn the bolt head an additional 120 degrees. This needs to be a precise angle measurement and is usually accomplished by using an "angle torque gauge" such as this one: http://www.tooltopia.com/index.asp?PageAct...paign=nextag_r1
  6. Might want to replace some of those rusty spring clamps because those can fail without warning once they get to that state. The hoses look original, and may be due for replacement as well.

  9. Check the owners manual for the oil level check procedure. Jiffy Lube? Are you kidding me? Do you know how much a new engine costs?

Best thing I learned about 3G charging is that if you just connect the USB data lines to a 10K ohm / 10K ohm divider between the USB +5V and ground (putting 2.5V on the data lines), it will charge. If you have a connector suitable for hacking then this is an easy solution because you can use a 3 terminal regulator to bring 12V down to 5V.
  11. Was the car on a level surface when you made the check? If not, you need to get it on a level surface before making any oil level checks. If the oil is low when checking on a level surface you can safely move the car but you should add oil before moving at highway speeds or using high revs.
  12. That line should go to the vacuum-operated valve located under the rear tube joining the intake manifold banks. It looks like the line has been cut or broken.
  13. I have 18x11 ET 63 wheels with 295/30 on the rear of my '99 C2 and (as noted above) the rear fenders are not rolled.
  14. Looking at the difference between the C4S and the C2, the C4S has bumper reinforcement part number 996.505.011.03 while the C2 has 996.505.031.00. The C4S part does seem to be trimmed to about the width of the impact absorbers, which are the same 996.505.015.00 in both C4S and C2.
  15. Whey they say "engine knock" are they really trying to say "spark knock"? If so, I think you need a second opinion because the knock sensors and the DME should prevent you from hearing that in a properly functioning system. Based on the symptoms, I'd look for something in the transmission, flywheel or clutch, drive shafts, differential, wheel bearings, engine and transmission mounts, chassis cross brace and maybe even suspension bushings in the rear. I don't believe they'd send you on your way if they really thought there was metal to metal contact in the engine, so we won't even go there.

  20. Crankcase full of coolant due to cracked head. 67K mile dealer maintained 3.4L.
