  1. Has anyone had any luck in polishing headlight covers? My boxster looks great and has almost 100k on it. The headlight covers have become very dull and I can not really see buying new ones yet...
  2. 4549 works! Once I left the radio on for 1 hour I was able to enter it.
  3. Hey Loren, I did follow the procedure to get the info... did it again to double check for good measure: Becker 1 Type 4462 Ser# W5002680 31/98 The model is a cdr220... The wait screen is still on. Does the radio have to be on for 1 hour for it to go off?
  4. I just had to break in to my own boxster with a locksmith... and in he said if the battery is dead - the porches are pretty much locked up tight... Look where the tow hook goes to see if someone moved the cable there. I pulled off both of my wheel liners with the tires on and looked for days for the dumb wire until I cheked the tow hook opening and it was sitting there waiting for me (where someone had moved it to).
  5. I need one now... I guess I played with it too much and broke it because it says WAIT... the radio is becker Type 4462 #W5002680 How do I get it off wait to enter the codes>?
  6. One way to find out is to disconnect from the lock assembly under the dash and try it that way. The cable is intended to just keep the car from going in to drive without the key.
  7. ****Update**** Battery was almost dead - and apparently so was my head...
  8. If it is one of the 97-00 boxsters - I think they have had problems w/ the adjustment in the key-lock-cable. This would definately keep the key from coming out of the ignition.... But im not sure if it would keep the car from being shifted into park...
  9. Battery in the remote or in the car? Both are fairly new - the remote still opens the car doors, and the battery in the started the car the day before yesterday with no hesitation... I think im gonna check the ignition switch in the morning - I may have knocked something loose.
  10. Car will not start. (1999 986 tip) When I insert the key into the ignition the beep that usually comes on is much faster, and when I try to start the car, it clicks fastly and the lights in the dash flash, but the starter doesnt run - and thats about all that happens... I did take the key head apart to work on the console lock cylinder recently- and the car would start before that. Is this what happens when the crystal in the key is removed or disabled???
  11. Ok - so I tried my key in the console lock also - No worky. I removed the key cylinder and "adjusted it" so now that works. I will probably take the door cylinder to a locksmith fix. But now I have more problems... When I insert the key into the ignition the beep that usually comes on is much faster, and when I try to start the car, it clicks fastly and the lights in the dash flash, but the starter doesnt run - and thats about all that happens... I did take the key head apart to work on the console cylinder - is this what happens when the crystal in the key is removed or disabled??? I need some major help now... :(
  12. Bit the bullet - called a locksmith. He popped it in like 5 minutes using basically a long rod as shown above. Only $55 and my insurance covers it. But for the record - removing the battery cable does NOT reset the reciever so dont even try it. We had to hook up the battery and open the door with the alarm going off the whole time. Done and done, now its just time to see why my door lock isnt working... Are these all mechanical or are there electrical components to to the lock???
  13. Update - Someone had already moved the cable to the tow hook point.... Woulda been really easy if I would have looked there first, but oh well. Pulled cable - alarm went off - remote still does not operate locks. Removed battery. Reattached batter, alarm still going off and remote does not work still... Any thoughts or help? Thanks.
  14. So what are the dimensions on the stock wheelies and what will fit from the aftermarket. Where should I look and what do I need to know. I like the look of about 18" euro looking wheels with about 12 spokes.
  15. Ok - ive got the wheel well liner off. I need some help finding out where exactly the emergency release cable is... If it is behind the light - how does that come off? And it is on the passenger side? I had no luck with trying to open the door with a metal rod as suggested....
  16. Yeah just resistance when I put the key in the door lock. I could pull the front wheel, but my lugnut key is in the front trunk... So yeah, the key doesnt turn at all, as if it is the wrong one, but I have no reason to believe that it would be... In the meantime I am going to keep spraying it with wd-40 and trying it. I could see it going a while without being used - because the remote is always used. It may just be frozen without use - hopefully I can get in eventually
  17. Ok.... I havnt gotten in yet. WD-40'd the lock and have been messing with it. Does anyone have a picture of the locking linkage inside the door - to perform the ol' coat hanger thing. If I set off the alarm, will that turn the remote reciever ON in the car??? Just dont want to do it, and then have a car with the alarm going off that I cant get in to.
  18. Ok, So I have had my Boxster's console torn apart for a couple days - so I havnt been driving it... Went back to open door, and my Remote will not work (which I am familiar with why). I have only owned this car for like 2 months and I have never needed the manual key. Well the key doesnt work in the door. It works in the ignition. How can I get in my car? any suggestions short of calling the locksmith?
  19. I had to go the local porsche parts house to get a brake switch so I just went ahead and just bought a new ignition switch for $20. I will change it and see if that helps... ***Does anyone know how the whole shiftlock system works??? It seems there is a mechanical cable, as well as a electrical silenoid that operates it... Mine works backwards now(unlocked when key off - locked when key on)..***
  20. I Would definately do this, if I could figure out which wires on the plug go to to solenoid.
  21. Ok - im not sure anyone is listening, but this is where im at so far. I have disconnected the cable from the key assembly and this has not remedied the problem.... But i did unplug the ignition switch - And this does fix the problem - apparently there is a silonoid that keeps the button on the shifter from being engaged when the key is turned.... Is this a bad silonoid possibly?? or a bad ignition switch?? apparently these go out often, but I havnt had any other symptons of this... If someone has a schematic of the shifter and knows where all the screws are to remove the center console - this would be of great help. thanks
  22. Well - ive found where the adjustment is - just need to get to it. What is the best way to remove the whole key lock assembly?
  23. Ok heres what ive got: 99 boxster w/ auto tip. The key lock is out of adjustment with the gear indicator lever and I want to see if I can adjust it. Heres what its doing: Car can be put into gear without key being turned or inserted. AND once key is inserted, I am unable to press the lever button down. (it must be done before key is turned on to get into gear) I know that it is a recal for this car. I took it in recently and the dealer wouldnt perform the recall because he wanted to replace the cable first (around $600). Where is it adjusted at? Key lock end or shifter end? Any help is greatly appreciated.
