  1. Way to go. Spend your money on the really important maintenance/performance items!
  2. I took it to the dealer yesterday. It was out of refrigerant. They recharged it with freon containing a dye, and I will return some time later to have the leak identified and repaired.
  3. I purchased a replacement at WalMart. It is the exact same size, and fits in the car perfectly. Around $20.
  4. Yes, I am still under warranty, but I am surprised by this problem with such low mileage, particularly on the air conditioning which I do not often use. I suspect an electrical fault e.g. faulty rela yor switch, since I have never heard a bad compressor noise.
  5. 2006 Boxster S 20,000 miles Automatic Climate Control I almost always drive with the top down, but today it was over 90 degrees, I had a guest, and had to use the air conditioning. The blower blew air, but it was as hot as the outdoors. NO cold air at all. No noise, no check engine light etc. I tried all the climate control settings, still no luck. The fuse looks ok. What's up?
  6. The 20,000 k service cost me $611, including taxes, at my closest dealer. It consisted, of course, of an oil change, the usual checking, and , as everyone predicted, wiper blades and filters. It seems the estimates some of you gave were right on!
  7. I didn't expect this topic to get so exciting. The humour (headlight fluid and muffler grease) is just that, good fun. In all seriousness, my car has been dealer serviced so far, and I think I will continue to do so for some time. The dealer changed my oil at 10,000 miles at a cost of $169 plus I got to drive a Cayman courtesy car all day long. I did change my own air filter ( I really wanted to see the engine!). I think no one knows a Porsche like a Porsche technician who works on them all day long. Plus I think this builds a good relationship. In the future, I may do more of the maintenance myself as I have with my other vehicles. I consider my Boxster very low maintenance and trouble free. $600 is comparable to what many dealerships charge for other brands of cars that are not driven as hard. The actual point I was geting at, however, was since this is exactlty the same minor service wherever it is performed, what is being charged out there?. Are charges higher in the West vs East, Canada vs Europe? Or are prices uniform?

  9. I just received by mail a coupon from my dealer for 15% off my "upcoming 20,000 mile service". It made me wonder, how much are dealers charging across the country for the 20K service?

  12. There are two black plastic connectors holding the front trunk "tool kit/jack/tire compressor" in place. One of these connectors has broken. I've tried to search the parts catalogue, but have not had any luck. Anyone know the part number for the connectors? 2006 Boxster S
  13. I also have a 2006 S. The paint code is on the black sticker on the inside of the fuel filler dor. Look at the very top of the sticker. I too had no "options sticker", but my dealer generated for me, at no cost, a computer printout of all the car's options, etc. We're pretty lucky in Kentucky, to have two really good Porsche dealerships.
  14. As scary as it is, my car's value has held up better than my investments have.
  15. I believe it is always considered safer to replace the damaged tire. A patch can be used, of course, but then the tire no longer hold its "speed rating". If you do have it patched, make sure the tire is removed from the rim, inspected, and patched from the inside. If you do a search, I am sure you will find previous posts on this problem.
  16. You should ask your service manager to call "Porche North America After Sales Manager" , to get you two free tires. You may be elegible, if your rears need replacement, but your fronts are not worn out; this applies if the same brand and matching N number of tires are not available. You will have to pay for two tires that replace the worn ones, and Porsche will pay for the two others to match . I was able to benefit from this recently. My dealer matched the prices on TireRack (and I didn't have to pay shipping!) plus the costs to mount and balance were very fair. It may be the only time you get something free from Porsche. But you have to be persistent, my manager initially said he knew nothing about this .
  17. There is a lot of poor English spelling/grammar in the ad. Could these be knock-offs? So many other products are counterfeited, why not European brake pads?
  18. I am trying to upgrade my rusty iron wheel bolts. I have looked online, and found attractively priced "new", "Triple Chromed" lug bolts at a seller named L.A. Wheel. Does anyone have experience with bolts from this vendor, particularly how they fit and look? I have OEM 18" 2006 Boxster S Wheels.

  20. I bought a Boxster S one year and 7000 happy miles ago, from an Infiniti dealer. Yes, they do buy cars at auction to sell and to create interest in their dealership, and this dealer did admit to this type of marketing . I have had no problems. In fact, I think it was to my advantage - they were selling this Boxster S at a base Boxster price. However, any dealer, Porsche or otherwise, should easily agree to a pre purchase inspection, otherwise, I think they are hiding something. Adding a couple of miles test driving is negligible!
  21. I'm really happy with the Boxster . It's my wife who wants the faster SUV. She is truly a great driver, and drives even more aggressively that I do. We have these great , scenic twisty roads in Kentucky that are a lot more fun in a true driver's vehicle. I find it odd, that with well made German engines, with Porsche's tight specifications, that some engines would burn a lot more oil than others. I guess the salesman is setting us up with the worst case scenario.
  22. I agree, a normally aspirated NEW Cayenne should not, in my opinion, burn that amount of oil. And he had no information to back up his statement regarding emissions.
  23. So, I have this problem. Ever since buying a Boxster last year, I now want all our vehiclesto be high performance. So my wife and I test drove a 2009 Cayenne GTS yesterday. The salesman told us that the Cayenne GTS will burn approximately 1 quart of oil every 600 miles or so. He stated this related to "reducing emissions". Now, intuitively, it would seem that the more oil burned/leaking through pistons and valves, the worse emissions should be. I am wondering, is this amount of oil consumption true in the real world? Mechanically, where does all this oil go?
