  1. I'm at 82,000 miles on my 2002 C4S, and it doesn't burn any noticable oil between oil changes. I check it regularly, and it is always full. I am using Mobil 1 0W-40.
  2. Nice car, and nice filming. My only critique would be that I would like to hear more Porsche engine sounds and less music during the video. Other than that, it is very nice.
  3. Reading these comments, I guess the thing that comes to my mind is that it isn't worth it to race on the street. No matter what the circumstances. If you want to race - go to the track. I feel no desire whatsoever to risk my driver's license, or ever worse - my life, to prove that I can beat a heavily modded Honda Civic. It simply isn't worth the risk. I just smile at them and keep on going about my business. I think that pisses them off even more than racing them...
  4. This doesn't happen to me frequently, however when it does, it is typically a Honda with a fart-can muffler. Interestingly, I had a old Jeep Grand Cherokee pull up next to me while driving on the interstate at highway speed recently. He revved his engine and then quickly accelerated away. I'm not sure what that was about...
  5. I agree with the thought that the battery is on the way out. Cayennes act in strange ways when the battery gets low. As for the CELs, I have heard that adding fuel with the engine running will frequently cause them. I'd try filling up with the engine off and see if that clears it. I have also heard that the camshaft position timing CEL is quite common, especially on cars in which the oil gets a little dirty due to long intervals between changes. I actually had this issue on my Cayenne too, and an oil change did the trick.
  6. I replaced the Pirelli P-Zeros on my 2002 C4S with Sumitomo HTR Z III tires this year. I stuck with the OEM sizes. I have about 4,000 miles on them now, and overall I am very pleased. They are hard to beat for the money (roughly $700 for all four installed). Good luck.
  7. I am running Hankook Ventus tires on the Cayenne, and I am reasonably pleased with them. For the price, they are hard to beat. I read the article in Car and Driver also. I was hoping to see the Sumitomo HTR Z III in the test, because I put a set on my 996 a few months ago. I've been pleased with them also, and they are in the same price range as the Hankooks.
  8. I went to a different gas station last night to fill up, and I did get a completely full tank.
  9. This happens to me at certain gas stations moreso than others. I think it has to do with the pump sometimes, so you might try different pumps and see if the result is the same.
  10. I think this is just a filler, not a true permanent scratch repair. For scratches in clearcoat, I've used Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0 and it works pretty well. There are other products that are designed to be used with random orbital buffers that work well too, like Griot's Garage products.
  11. Cayennes need premium fuel. My 2004 Cayenne S gets about 17.6 mpg (according to the computer) in mixed city/highway driving. The earlier models are more prone to problems, especially the 2003 and 2004 models. That being said, they aren't all bad. Mine is still running on the original coils, I've never had a problem with the cardan shaft, and it has been overall pretty reliable.
  12. If you accelerate quickly - foot to the floor - it should automatically kick down to 1st gear. You can also drive with PSM turned off, which will start in 1st gear.
  13. If you can, spring for at least a 2005 Cayenne. Too many 04 Cayenne have problems with the coils, coolant tools and other electrical problems. If you are dead set on an 04, make sure to test drive it, have it checked by a reputable Porsche mechanic and get a CPO warranty. Good luck. +1 There are some good 2004 Cayennes out there, especially those built towards the end of the build cycle. There are also some bad ones. You'll really want the service history, and I would strongly consider a warranty. If you can find a 2005 or later you'll be less likely to have problems.
  14. No muffler at all? I think that would be very loud... perhaps not even legal...
  15. Mine always reads 5 when the engine is cold, or when I am accelerating. When I am cruising at 60 mph, it does tend to drop down to 3.5 or so. I will check when it is idling, but I don't think it drops all the way down to 1.5.
  16. 2002 C4S, daily driver. 77,500 miles. Rear main seal and intermediate shaft seal replaced, catalytic converters replaced.
  17. I just heard from the technical support group at PIE Store, and they said that this adapter WILL NOT work with the Porsche/Becker head unit.
  18. So if I understand this correctly, this device will allow me to hook my iPhone 3G up to my 2002 Carrera 4S with a CDR 220, giving me power and the iPod connection in a single plug? If that is correct, then will I see iPod data on the screen, and will I be able to control the iPod with the controls on the CDR 220? If this all works, I may have to buy one! Someone needs to actually try this because our radios are Becker not Blaupunkt. Maybe I'll give them a call and see what they have to say about it. If the cable isn't too expensive, I'm willing to give it a try... Actually I just saw that it is only $33.90.

  21. My experience with Cayennes is that disconnecting the battery is bad. I'd keep it on a charger/maintainer, or just leave it. It should be OK for 2 months.
  22. Buy the warranty. That's my advice. You should be relatively problem free, but if you have one major issue, you can easily spend more than that. Research the warranty company carefully to make sure they have a good history. I've heard stories of warranty companies taking your money, and then going out of business.
