  1. Don't think a leaky RMS will throw a check oil pressure light unless it was the oil level light.
  2. I can say my engine takes more then 3 miles to come up to full operating temp, and the oil lags behind, on a cold engine warming up. I suspect it's due to the oil volume of almost 9 qts. I can see this by the operating pressues.
  3. [Everthing I have read was those pressures were done based on the Porsche recommendation after test track runs for the best handling. When you reduce pressure the sidewalls flex more.

  5. lu - since you already have an 02 3.6 I think in your case it's not as bad, he is going from an older 3.4 to the newer 3.6.
  6. Why not look for an independent shop that specilizes in BMW, Porsche etc. Get the list of what is required for the 60K and have him use it. Bet you will find the price drop significantly. Better yet get the list, do most of it yourself, and only have the specialty shop change the plugs etc. The Porsche dealership here gets $135 hr, while a very reputable specialty shop gets half that.
  7. Just installed the AerokitII skirts 2 weeks ago. Pretty easy, the bottom part uses supplied clips and wide headed screws, that snap on to the underside lip. The top portion uses 2 sided tape that you start in the middle and pull the protective film off when on the car, do not pull the tape off until you have the side skirts fastemed at the bottom and properly aligned. The front portion of the wheel well has a push pin you remove then install it through the hole in the side skirt. The rear section of the side skirt that is under the car and in the wheel well uses the screws from the removed fender small front flared skit/flap.The tricky part is aligning the clips with the holes on the bottom of the skirt while snapping onto the body lip. If I am not mistaken the AeroKitI skirts uses epoxy in place of the 2 sided tape. I prefer the AerokitII for the looks. There is a TSB for the installtion on the Boxster, which pretty much is the same for the Carrera, you just need to omit a few steps.
  8. It's not very common to resurface drilled rotors. Rule of thumb is replace drilled or slotted rotors. Porsche rotors are drilled through. This takes away from the overall volume of the rotor materiel as compared to standard rotors the same size. Porsche does over do their brakes, which is goodness. By reducing the metal mass even more, actually weakens a drilled rotor. There are limited shops who will do it. But for the most part it's not recommended. Be more specific on the rust issue.
  9. I'd like to see that dyno report on just adding a lube and get 2 to 3 RWHP. Aren't they the ones who also claim 25HP increase with their fuel additive!!!!!
  10. The Porsche radio Becker model CR220/436/4462 has an aux input. Go here: http://www.beckerautosound.com/Porsche/Porsche%20Menu.html Instructions for installing an external audio source (MP3) Application: CR220, CDR220, BE4602, Mexico Pro and Traffic Pro. • Remove the C3 Socket connector from your radio. If your radio does not have one, find the one enclosed in the cable kit. • Locate the set of female RCA jacks from the modification kit. • Insert the brown lead into pin #18 of the C3 Socket. • Insert the yellow lead into pin #19 of the C3 Socket. • Insert the red lead into pin #20 of the C3 Socket. **** When selecting this option, you will not be able to use an external CD Changer since they both use the same audio input lines. **** To select Auxiliary Input for Mercedes-Benz 4602: Turn radio ON. Press and hold the button for 8 seconds, until Becker 1 is displayed. Turn the Tuning Knob until AUX OFF is displayed. Press either button located directly under the Arrows on the display to change the present setting from OFF to ON. Turn radio OFF. Auxiliary Audio Input has now been activated. If you have an amp it's above and behind the spare tire in vertical position in the upper trunk area.
  11. Well, you will have to do some diagnosis, since it could be a seal in the pump, or a hose. Turning the wheel is what builds up pressure, so it stands to reason that turing the wheel will show up the leak.
  12. To be honest I have pulled the battery cable whiile doing upgrades to my car, for the most about 3 hours. The only thing I had to do was do the radio securuty code, everything seemed to hold it's settings. Not knowing how long you car was without power, may detemine complete programming or not.
  13. I would still not rule out the battery. The voltage may be to low for the door locks but enough for the alarm.
  14. Porsche spec is synthetic gear oil. I was just going on my owners manual and it does not specify synthetic, just 75W-90. I noticed synth is speed for 2002 models though.
  15. Be real careful on those 3rd party policies. Really read the fine print. You may find yourself paying high out of poclket for repairs. I am not so much an advocate of these policies. First off even if you only have a water pump changed out, it's still only $850 compared to $2100. By buying one you are betting the farm that you will need it. Based on the feedback on the C2's it seems these cars are petty reliable. These companies know it and make huge $$ off of these policies. If you do decide to get one, make sure the shop that is doing any work does not tear anything down until the inspector shows up and vlidates the failure ( which could take days). If you don't you may find yourself paying for the whole job anyway. BTW - most don't cover emissions and for the most part O2 sensors and other sensors is usuually the weakest link.
  16. what did you do? the car I just purchased has the rotors all messed up from brake fluid (I think). I'm still pondering which way to go with these...paint? powdercoat? or replace? anymore thoughts would be appreciated Think on those all you have to do is wet sand with a fine paper and clear coat it. The base paint looks okay.
  17. I have long legs too, for me just moving the seat back works for me. You're right I will not do it. So relax! I only stated my opinion and how I think it presents itself! One of the nice things about a forum is it allows folks to express ideas and opinions. So even though the thread started as a how too, there is nothing stating that expanding to the asthetics can't be expressed! I don't think how many models one had, has anything to do with it. My opinion was only expressed for the 996 and 997.

  19. I personally think going thru this procedure cheapens up the cars interior. Not trying to hurt anyones feelings. The car has enough carpet trim as it is. Just my opinion.
  20. Actually, you should never sit warming up the engine at idle. The best way is to start it up allow the oil pressure to come up, then drive conservatively until warm. Allowing it to idle for long periods of time when cold actually causes oil to get diluted more, since it's running rich and there is more blow bye when cold.

  22. According to research Porsche has a much better reliability rating than Mercedes. Parts cost less also! Mercedes is not the top of the heap when it comes to reliability, as with Audi. rpf, better do a little more research, because even the 3.6 has had some RMS failures. I have seen as late as 2005 years have the problem. Next the 2002 and up base models weigh more so the performance is not that much of a difference.
  23. Problem is if it ran a while with no grease and with water, the longevity has been compromised. Hopefully you caugt it in time. Any rust noticed on the bearings etc..
  24. Be careful on those after market policies. They will take your cash and not return anything based on excuses when it comes time. Been there done that. Also the aftermarket policies can have your car laid up awhile until an inspector arrives to verify the problem. Word of advice, do not let the shop dismantle the car until the inpsector arrives. The inspector has to verify the problem first before anything is removed or else you may be holding the repair bill! One other point those so called 3rd party bumper to bumper policies for the most part do not cover emission problems ( O2 sensors etc). Read the fine print!
