  1. The same issue is with my 1997 Boxster. I've taken to make certain the windscreen shade protector covers (shades) the sensor from all external activity. The sensor is motion and unfortunately or fortunate when something outside the vehicle trips it, such as a passing bird, off it goes. You want it to protect internally so covering the sensor with the windscreen shade serves a dual purpose, keeps the inside of your car cool, and prevents the IR sensor from detecting external movements. :lightbulb:
  2. Well I just replaced my Becker 220 with an Alpine AM/FM/CD/XM and it could not be easier. I got the unit from Crutchfield and it came with the connector and wiring diagram. I just followed the instructions....with one exception. The ground on the original speakers are wound into a single bundle and connected to the radios ground. This will not allow the front base speakers (the ones in the door) to function well enough to be heard. Just ground them individually like the instructions with the install manual say and everything will work just fine. Total time was less than 3 hours from removal to driving around with the top down and tunes blasting. :jump:
  3. What options do you have with your Boxster? If you have door speakers you already have base speakers, and the addition of another will make little difference. Do you still have the factory radio? If so you may want to think about going to an after market radio (I know the purest hates this idea, but the Becker radio is just slightly up from my old crystal set) I've just installed the Alpine XM9820 with XM radio and left my factory speakers in the car - what a difference this makes! So - bottom line If you have speakers in your door I would pass on putting in another base. :drive:
  4. What do you want to do? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have a set of instrument face plates I would like to put on. I was waiting for the work on car weekend and the weekend fell on my wifes birthday. not a choice. Thanks, Perry
  5. Will there be a next work-on-your-car day someday soon? :o Thanks, Perry
  6. Well you are going to get stories all over the map. This is mine. I have a 1997 with 118K and I have no issues, none, zero. I bought my Bosxter from an individual nelieve it or not off of e-Bay, with a 100K on it. I'm not the norm on this, but after checking all the maintenance records I decided to buy it. The key here is maintenance, in my opinion. The previous owner had all maintenance done by certified mechanics, he changed oil on a routine schedule, and never let the car get in poor condation for lack of maintenance. I enjoy the car today and look forward to another 100K miles.
  7. Hi - I too have searched several time with no luck. I've used every combo of criteria too - any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, :(
  8. :jump: Alright! Please let me know if there is something I can help with. Thanks, Perry
  9. hi - when can we expect another work-weekend on cars in the bay area? I'm the new guy and I'd bring the pizza and beers.
  10. Mmmmm Lot's of input here. . . I have a couple more. First off it does make a difference where you mount it. If you mount it low it will not pick up signals coming from behind, and yes they detect from above, behind and front. Next when you get the alarm hit the breaks, all new detectors have an automatic spoof mode. While you are slowing down the detector is spoofing so the CHPer will not be able to obtain a good signal right away by then you're at speed. When you get pinged, they are looking. The RADAR unit can't remain on at all times, it would get too hot, even newer ones including lasers. BTW air patrol utilize lasers, if your detector picks up a laser signal - look up. And hey don't think you can drive I5 now like we could a couple of years ago. I travel that route twice a month and average more than 6 good hits each time.......
  11. :jump: You should always get out of the car, make certain there is a smooth fold in the window. Then with either a towel or a small pillow place it in the fold and complete folding the top. With the towel or pillow folded in the top you may leave it down for extended periods and not worry about leaving a permanent crease in the window.
  12. Hi - I am searching for a place to begin my quest to have good (not even great) reception on my radio. If I'm more than 20 miles from a station (AM or FM) I get nothing but static. Does anybody have any ideas?
  13. My friends 01 S engine fan runs when the engine is hot even when the key is off and removed. I have a 97 and the fan does not do the same. Is there a problem with my cooling fan? The fuse is good. :help:
  14. Thank you very much. This picture is a big help. Now to see how to remove the air bag on a 4 spoke wheel. I would guess they are much like the 3 spoke wheel.
  15. Does anybody have a diagram of where these bushings are located, and what do they look like, and (sorry but just this one more) how are they replaced? Thank you
  16. radio manual  Can you direct me to a radio manual for the 1997 am/fm/cd porsche radio? I would be very grateful.....
