  1. been a long time but I thnk there used to be some sort of bracket there. 86 turbo great car
  2. if they didn't replace the seal ring it will leak no matter how tight you make it
  3. you can't try to stretch out the mileage on these belts, just won't do it to the head, what year is the head from? the early heads and late heads have different combustion chambers
  4. then it is probably in the pump or the drive belt/gears
  5. My answer is on practical experience, I had a 944 that I only drove about once a month and I change the belt every 2 years regerdless of how few miles I out on it. Just trying to help a brother out. plus all the cars I saw get towed in after we tried to sell them a t belt and they answered they would do it next month.
  6. it is 2000 over due!!!!! change that thing every 2 years or 30,000 miles whichever comes first!!!! this is an interference motor and it will bend valves. more so if it is a "S" model. I have worked on these cars since new and have seen many a person "stretch" the interval to save $$ and end up spending a lot more in a major repair.
  7. most common failure was the hose from the drier to the condensor
  8. is this the same 98 motor you picked up as blown? I hope not, turns out most of those motors had cylinder sleees that would slip. any way timesert is the way to go, you are threading in a steel sleev with new threads for the bolt. also did you ever find a timing kit, we put one together.

    ABS Light

check the spark plug boot connections. they can arc and cause running problems and ABS problems
  10. does the unit have 2 plugs? one advance one retard? Loren I don't think the CD ignition can control advance, but you are right this does test the memory.
  11. try Doughtery Automotive in West Chester PA. 610-692-6039 they are very good at Porsche
  12. you might start looking for a rebuilt box. you are going to sink a lot of money in to this one to make it right again. don't tell the them the core did a burn out! Porsches are not made for burn outs, leave that to the ricers and chevys
  13. stop washing the car!!!! just kidding. check the coil wires themselves, check and replace the DME relay. also the DME and LH control unit are located in the passengers kick panel. make sure they are not getting wet when the car is washed. the fuse box is under the wood panel on the passenger floor board make sure it is not wet either. under the hood near the fron of the car, I can't remember exactly but follow the wires from the coils. are 2 final stage boxes. make sure water isn't getting in to them either
  14. 88 was a bad year for valve guides for some reason. or I have seen cars that weren't driven that much "stick a ring" and cause smoking. go to the parts store and get some snake oil for stuck rings and see if that helps.
  15. it works pretty well when working at 100%. it is not going to be as good as a Boxster but a lot better then the older cars
  16. that connector was never used. it goes down to a sensor in the bell housing. I think it was something Porsche was thinking of using but never did.
  17. the rocker panel is below the door line and runs from front fender to rear fender, god am I that old?????
  18. you need to get a fuel pressure gauge and a pressure /vacum gauge and get some technical info on your car. I lost all my old turbo stuff. with out some readings you can guess all day at this thing
  19. the oil lines run down the right side of the car and the A/C lines run down the left. do you have a loop cooler or a cooler that looks like a little radiator? make sure there is no blockage for air flow around the cooler
  20. My PCNA instructer told me Dinks were the beer of choice for beer breaks at the factory. true story I was working at a Buick dealer in 1978 when you took off you could hear something move back in the car, when you hit the brakes you heard it slide forward. we narrowed it down to the rocker panel. took the car to the body shop and opened the rocker panel to find a coke bottle with a note inside that read "how long did it take for you to find this?" the field rep for Buick wasn't amused
  21. we used to add toulene in the old days for qualiying, but had to flush it out quickly or it ate up rubber components in the fuel system. would not recc for street use. buy good gas or get av-gas
  22. how many miles on the vehicle? is it still under regular warranty? even though if it is under 80k and unless it was something you did to the vehicle there should have been no charge. I would give the dealer a chance to make it right then contact PCNA. if they won't then contact EPA
