  1. Thanks for responding Richard. It is difficult to pinpoint it that precisely but it's definitely a relay or actuator of some type that is located behind or very close to the passenger airbag. It almost sounds like a pump clicking as it pumps a line up to pressure and then stops after 10 or 15 seconds. A diagnostic would be nice but am just trying to figure out what I may have and whether it could be a DIY.

  3. It seems that there may be a couple of things going on here. The compressor very possibly gave up the ghost but this under dash sound is perplexing. Hopefully someone here with a shop manual can post here whats down under the airbag that is a switch, a relay, or anything else that could cause a mechanical clicking noise as though something is trying to turn on and off. Thanks for your help.
  4. The quote from local shops was 800 to 1100 to replace the regulator/ motor. I found a qualified independent entrepreneur who is developing a franchise for mobile power window repair. 400.00 out the door and I never left the house.
  5. A clicking/tapping noise under the dash on the passengers side occurred this morning as I started my 1999 996. At the same time the A/C blew hot air. It sounds like the compressor is kicking in but hot air is all I get with the intermittent under dash noise. As always, you folks thoughts are very much appreciated.
  6. Re: The clips that hold down the side carpet attached to inner fenders in the trunk are broken. I'd like to order them online and save the 30 mile drive to the dealer but I'm having trouble identifying them working with Suncoast. Suncoast kindly sent over the parts diagram for all the clips used in the trunk but the artwork is so bad that I can't select one from it. can anyone help with a part number here? As you can see in the photo the shaft is broken exposing the threads (must enlarge photo to see this detailed). Thanks!

The problem is just the passenger side rear power window...further research has revealed this as the method to get in there... http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/23091-996-cab-rear-sliding-window-stuck-and-wont-close-or-open/page__p__120013__hl__%2Brear+%2Bwindow__fromsearch__1#entry120013 my question now is whether the regulator for this window includes the motor and regulator in a single unit? I'll continue the search to learn the answer or if anyone can help please post here...thank you
  8. Re: 1999 996 Cab Although I can hear the motor running it does not raise the window. There is a light grinding noise that accompanies the motor operating. Can you guys let me know how to get access to the passengers side rear power window to check the motor, cables, etc. Thanks! BTW this happened after the battery went dead and it was replaced with a new one.
  9. they are just covers. gently pop them out and notice they are secured in part with the black tacky stuff. you may need more of this or it may need to just be moved around. if it's gone then your local parts store should sell it.
  10. Hey guys and gals... I just took our new fixer-upper 1999 996 Cab with the Tiptronic transmission out for a spin the other evening and noticed that the gear shift indicator numbers next to the tiptronic console shift lever were not lit. Now I've never owned a tip before so not absolutely certain that there would be light there but it does seem like there would be. Can someone who has a car like this confirm that it should be lit and possibly give me a tip on how to get in there and replace the bulb? Thanks! Doug
  11. I just purchased a fixer upper 1999 996 for a project. The interior has the factory wood trim. It looks great from a few feet away but up closr it becomes obvious that it is cracked everywhere. Even the defroster vent pieces that the prior owner had replaced at great expense a couple of years ago are already cracked. There's no way of knowing if this is caused by extreme heat but since it is an Arizona car I would assume that is the problem. The car does not apprear to have been parked in the sun but even if left outside here the temps get up to 100+ on a daily basis in the summer. Anyway, be warned if you are considering the oem "real" wood.
  12. great tips here...I just purchased a '99 996 with the top stuck in the open position. After following the steps to get it closed manually with no success I took it to the local non-dealer Porsche repair (Becks's in Scottsdale) to solve the problem. Once I ge a chance to drive it with the top closed, we shall see if these new parts are needed. thanks
  13. The one that I have is designed for waxing cars only. It is not powerful enough to do paint damage like the ones the pros use. It is still advisable to stay away from edges and crests just in case.

  15. Have used them for a very long time. The one I have now was a Xmas gift and it has an airpump on it. I use the airpump alot.
  16. I just bought one myself because there are many out there and they are a very good value IMO. Make sure all service records are in order, stamps in book, and no leaks. The price needs to be right so as has been said here, do your research and get a deal.

  18. Please don't let the picture fool you. The question is regarding a 1999 996 Cab that I just purchased. Apparently the windstop installation is simple with no hardware required but the existing access caps do need to be replaced with ones that have a hole in them that allows the windstop mounts to slide in. Both Pelican and Sunset have the Porsche OEM windstop (Sunset 550.00/Pelican 318.00) but neither can tell for certain if the replacement caps are included nor can they find a part number for them. Also, they can't tell me whether the storage cover comes with the part. Hopefully you have purchased one of these for your Porsche and you know whether the caps and cover will be in the box on arrival. Thanks, Doug

  20. the only thing I am aware of is your power windows may need resetting so they will fit properly...or is that just the older cars?
  21. thanks Maurice for writing this up...for some reason I didn't get an email notification that other's had posted replies and questions. however, I would not have been able to provide such concise and expert advice so it worked out just the better for the guys wanting the step by step process. great job! I did take off some edges while sanding and will go back some time and fix them but they look fine for now. Other steps in bringing my new toy (this 2002 turbo) back to snuff have taken their place in front of the line of priorities. it's a real solid, one owner car but the cosmetics have been let go. That's right up my alley!
  22. the good news is the better shops will remove the bumper and shoot it off of the car

In order to reset, with the convertible top fully closed, press the button to raise the window to its highest position, then keep the power window switch pressed down for a further 5 to 10 seconds. If necessary, repeat with the window all the way down, but I believe it's only necessary to do it with the window all the way up. Regards, Maurice. apparently this reset has worked for the passenger side and may have reset the driver's side but...the driver's side is a different story. The window is coming down 1/2 inch or as it should for the automatic function so but then it pops right back up before the door can be closed. It is behaving this way when activated by either the inside or outside door handle. In order to allow the door to close properly the window needs to be gapped down. thoughts?
