  1. Glad to hear it was a fairly simple fix, thanks for sharing the results.
  2. Welcome, thanks for posting the pics! :D And also being an A3 Sport/DSG owner gotta say your S4 looks hot, nice wheels, suspension. Obviously the new C4S looks sweet too. Guess you're a cabrio guy, but the cars have roughly similar peformance (?), so what brought you to the P-car? Regards Dave
  3. Thanks for the tip, that was a great show. -Dave
  4. That's really impressive. Of course Porsche has come all the way back from 1993 (?) when they only sold like 4,000 cars in the US to today back up to like 30,000? It would be interesting to really analyze all their numbers and how much profit in the base car vs. "options." ;) I went by the Porsche dealer in Newport Beach the other day and a lot of people were buying themselves Christmas presents.... The sales guys were handing out "thank you" model cars and shirts to new buyers like candy.
  5. Hey James, yes it does sound more like coolant. Hope it's nothing serious. Thanks for sharing the great pics, and cool rocket on your license plate, ha. btw, what does your plate mean?
  6. What do the warranty people say? (Did you say earlier that you work for the dealer that you bought the car from?) Your dealer didn't include any kind of 30-day warranty 50% coverage or anything? I'd say don't drive the car away from that shop until the dealer or the warranty agree to coverage. Once you drive away, it will really all be on you.... Call your state consumer protection agency, you bought the warranty -- call the warranty company, don't get stuck with the bill, it's not your fault! Good luck Dave
  7. "This thread is worthless without pics." :D You guys may have noticed that you can easily attach a picture(s) with your post, and it's Christmas, so get in the sharing mood, ha. BMWs and Benz's are great, but there is nothing like the sound and feel of a boxer motor. So Tim, you're in Montana? Hope you're friends with the local Sheriff? I think you're right about the auction jockies taking the manuals. My '99 came with an '02 set of manuals in case anyone needs an '02 set. -Dave
  8. Well, the other guys here can give you better technical advice, but I'd say don't be disheartened -- be mad! You only drove it 100 miles? Clearly (imho) the dealer must have known something was up with the car at 69k miles. Good thing that you got the warranty, but you should make sure that either the warranty or the dealer covers this. You might want to get some initial legal advice if they're saying new motor for $10k. Good luck and obviously keep us posted.
  9. A bit off-topic, but have you ever tried Nitrogen in the tires? http://www.sonic.net/~racerx/excellence-ma...rt1/art1p3.html
  10. Hope it's not too serious. I had something similar happen many years ago in a Golf, and it turned out to be an inexpensive connector piece. Good luck.
  11. These guys seem pretty good, my dealer Autohaus West uses them, and they seem pretty reasonable, maybe worth a phone call. Off the 5 freeway at Lake Forest. Irvine European Auto Service 22741 Aspan St Ste E Lake Forest, CA 92630 Map (949) 951-3700
  12. John, nice ride and you've got a great eye for photography.... Probably took you twice as long to get home finding those great spots, but I guess you weren't in a rush to get home, ha. -Dave
  13. Hey Kristian, ooh clear 3rd brake light. Sounds interesting, especially since my C2 ist silber. Got a linky for that?
  14. Wow, another great shot, looks like east coast vs. west coast beach shots, ha. Here's the link to one of the seller's Ebay mats, look like mine, but for a 997: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PORSCHE-997...1QQcmdZViewItem It seems my 996 mats have the PORSCHE script slightly higher so it's nicely visible. Great quality, thick, and fit perfectly in all positions, authorized from Porsche. You can ask the seller a question, he cut me a little deal since I'm in CA for no tax, and also got them the next day.
  15. Thanks for the note. Yeah, it doesn't seem to be the clutch, but just the motor idles a bit slower with the a/c off and just prefers a bit more steady gas. It actually seems normal, probably just me getting used to the car.... Thx.
  16. That's great, and what a classic shot at the beach. Thanks, Dave
  17. Hey guys, Just a quick hello and intro as last week I picked a nice little '99 C2 coupe, manual, silver over black, 18 turbo twist wheels (yes!), and 49k miles for $29.5k from Autohaus West here in OC. I looked pretty hard about 3 1/2 years ago, but at that time couldn't find the car & deal that I wanted. But really got the bug again after going to Laguna Seca for the ALMS final race in October.... I was seriously considering a 993, but I'd like to use this as an almost-daily driver and this 996 was just the right deal. Well, I've had a couple nice drives already, and Saturday went out to the local Cars & Coffee show in Irvine (if some may be familiar with that). I already picked up a nice set of Lloyd PORSCHE logo mats (black with silver lettering) for $70 on Ebay; really finishes off the cabin nicely. Also plan to get clear corner lights at the fender (appear about $25 on eBay). Probably also do some Llumar tint at a local place that has done several cars for me before. I also polished the exhaust tips with a green pad and some chrome polish and they cleaned up really nicely. (Got that idea from one of the threads here.) The car drives great, very tight, and has been a California car its whole life. 3 previous owners and apparently each one barely drove it. I lived in Germany for 5 years, so I can and do drive rapidly on the highway. I'm most impressed with the power that comes on above 4k rpms, and how the 18s seem to stick like gorilla glue. If I get a ticket in this thing, it's gonna be a triple-digit doozy. ;) 2 Questions: - The motor seems to be sensitive at very low rpms in 1st gear, like pulling up the driveway (stalled it once) -- is that normal? - Does anyone know a source for blue-tinted aspheric mirrors? (I've used them before but only seen clear aspheric on eBay for $140.) Thanks and look forward to hanging out here occassionally. :renntech:
  18. Thank you. Finally discovered both trims on the roof, which run front to back on either side, were removed and very badly repaired (putty filled/ over sprayed, poorly fitting), by the previous owner. I guess the hardtop was damaged at some time. I purchased the car (with hardtop) from a very reputable dealer and called him. He will contact the previous owner, but it looks like I must bear cost (total $1100), even though I only bought the car this summer! Thanks for responding! Hopefully this isn't too cheesey, but if you don't want to spend the $1100 right now, they could probably put a thick bead of silicone sealant across the edge/gap. I assume you'll have the top on til Spring, and you could fix it next November.... The silicone should (?) come off cleanly when it's time to remove and clean up. Just my .02, maybe something to ask about?
  19. Wow, $900 is a lot considering the real benefits are in turbo applicatons. I don't know, but it seems like a cold air intake or sport auspuff would be better investment? I've chipped VW 1.8T and 2.0T before and it's great for more boost, and the VW market only charges about $500. Car looks great. :)
