  1. You might want to keep your old halogen headlights -- don't sell them on eBay just yet! It is my understanding that the Litronics Retrofit Kit will not pass MOT because they are not self-leveling. So keep your halogen headlights and swap them in before you get your MOT.
  2. Pick up the phone and give them a call. (714) 730-6917
  3. Tom, Are you thinking about getting a certain car from Virginia? ;) I just got a new tranny for my '00 996 for $5,900 plus the cost of installation (through InterSport in Tysons). There is a shortage of remanufactured trannies right now so you might have to get a new one.
  4. Adam, two words of advice: Saran Wrap. To be on the safe side, put Saran Wrap around the intake and the electrical connections before you do anything. Also, make sure the oil dipstick is pushed in all the way. Hose down the engine compartment with a gentle stream of water (don't spray water too hard) to remove excess dirt, spray on the Simple Green, let it sit for a couple of minutes and then hose it down again to rinse off the Simple Green. I usually follow it up with a complete car wash to make sure the Simple Green is completely gone since it may have run off to the bumpers, etc. Just remember that the engine does get wet when it rains so as long as you Saran Wrap the intake and electrical connections, hosing it down with a gentle stream of water shouldn't be a problem. Keeping the engine compartment clean is very easy -- I just wipe it down with a wet terry towel every other time I wash the car. The engine compartment doesn't really get a lot of dirt.
  5. It looks like the assembly is one piece glued together. I don't think you can disassemble it (I could be wrong). Hey, look at it as an excuse to upgrade to Litronics. ;)
  6. SplitWindow and DeadEye, I put the RUF RGT front bumper and sideskirts on my C2 Cab two years ago. I bought the parts from Weissach which was the only authorized North American RUF dealer at the time (the RUF Autocentre in Dallas just opened a few months ago.) If I recall correctly the RGT front bumper (with air ducts and installation hardware) cost USD 1,100 and the RGT sideskirts cost USD 850. DeadEye, I read in your post on Rennlist where you said you were considering getting the OEM Cup Aerokit sideskirts... I would strongly recommend you get the matching RUF RGT sideskirts if you're getting the RGT front bumper. The RGT front bumper is a quite bit lower than the OEM GT3 bumper so the OEM sideskirts will not look right. As for the reinforcement bar... it needs to be cut about one and a half inches on both sides. The reinforcement bar is made of shock absorbing foam and can easily be cut using a hacksaw. You can also get the Turbo reinforcement bar, which is shorter than the C2 reinforcement bar and doesn't require cutting, but it is not worth it. Finally, I think the RUF RGT front bumper is a good choice -- it is made of the same polyurethane material as the OEM bumper and it gives the car an agressive (but not over the top like TechArt) look and sets your car apart from the pack. .:programmatore:.
  7. Hi Loren, How difficult would it be to install the switch on a car without PSM? Are the wires for the light switch there so I can splice on to them? Thanks!
  8. Hey DFC, It's been a while so I don't remember exactly how much I paid for the front bumper and skirts. I believe it was around $2,500 shipped. I ordered them from Weissach. The front bumper will be slightly different for your car since you have an '04 (facelift) but the side skirts should be the same. I believe the rear wing costs around $2,200. (I didn't get the rear wing because it would've interfered with the convertible top mechanism -- but it looks great on a coupe.) Anyway, check with Weissach for the current prices. I used a body shop in my area called Wagonworks that works mostly with high-end German cars. They're a bit pricier than others but they do good work. I recommend you check out body shops in your area before you order the kit. I was surprised that a lot of body shops would not touch aftermarket kits. The dealer would definitely not install an aftermarket kit. The bumper and skirts come unfinished. The body shop had to prime and sand them (3 times!) to get them ready for painting. I thought it was a bit much but the results were awesome -- the finish was very smooth and they blended the paint so well that you'd think the bumper came with the car. Shop around for a good body shop and don't try to skimp -- you don't want your Carrera looking like a ricer with a bolted on bumper! One last thing, the bumper reinforcement bar on my 2000 Carrera had to be cut a little -- about an inch on each side -- to make room for the bigger air intakes in the Ruf bumper. Don't worry, it is still safe and you would have to do this too if you install the Turbo or GT2 bumper on your car. The bumper comes with custom ducting that replaces the current ducts (the bigger intakes and custom ducting improve brake cooling). Let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers, .:programmatore:. Here's a picture of the Ruf RGT front bumper for facelift cars:
  9. Hey D_Man, You should do it! I got the Ruf RGT front bumper and side skirts for my 996 Cab and I'm really happy with it. Ruf's aerokits actually improve performance (improved downforce and cooling) and look aggressive without being over the top (I am not a big fan of TechArt for this reason). Anyway, you should contact Weissach (http://www.weissach.com). They're the North American distributor for Ruf. Cheers, .:programmatore:.
  10. It looks like the Ruf RGT RS (based on the 996 GT3). .:programmatore:.
  11. I agree with Tool Pants -- you are worrying too much. It is no big deal if you get grease on halogen bulbs, you can easily wipe them down with alcohol. I use wet naps like the ones you get from a restaurant when you order baby back ribs. ;)
