  1. thanks for the response 996noob. Can you advise what tyres you were running and what spacers should applied to the front to make the wheels sit in the guards similar to the rear? Cheers, Slide
  2. guys looking for some help with wheels and tyres. I have a '98 996 C2 and like the late model 997 Carerra "S" wheels (the 5 spokes with the cutouts in the spokes). I have seen some of these advertised however am unsure if they will fit my car as they all seem to be - Front - 19x8 57mm Offset and Rear - 19x11 67mm Offset Can anyone advise if these will fit on an early narrowbody 996 and if so whether spacers are required. If anyone has actually completed this upgrade could you please post a photo or 2 with some information on tyre size? Thank you in advance, Slide
  3. Guys, I'm looking to fit up some new wheels and tires to my 1998 996 C2 Coupe. I'm currently looking at some gemballa rims which are - Front - 19x9 et 60 Rear – 19x11.5 et 59 I am thinking or fitting them with Continental Sports Contact 2 tires - Fronts 235/35 ZR 19 Rear 295/30 ZR 19 will this setup first of all fit on a narrowbody car and secondly be able to be used on a daily basis? thanks for any assistance, Brad
  4. guys check the plastic battery cover is locked down properly. I had a funny "wheel bearing" type noise coming from the front of the car, at different speeds it would improve or go away...after much checking I removed the plastic battery cover and found only one "lock" was securely fastened fastened. I removed the cover and refit it ensuring the locks were secure and haven't heard the noise since. hope this helps, Slide
  5. are there different part numbers depending on model - for example i have a '98 build c2...what part number would that be?
  6. Hi Dave, I'm very interested in what you find with regard to the flat spot. I too have a flat spot which only appears at about 5500rpm. I'm ordering a durametric at the moment, but I have been finding the car a bit sluggish in general. I've cleaned the throttle body which fixed an idle problem but the flat spot is still there. Good luck with your problem, Brad
  7. just to clarify if the OBDC is turned on the tacho will display the outside temprature? what does it disply if the OBDC is not turned on? and would this apply to a '98 build 996 C2? Thanks, Brad
  8. Brankota, I'm also in Australia we dont seem to have the same engine failure problems as in the USA, at least they dont seem to be as frequent, not sure why? maybe its something to do with higher quality fuel over here or our local conditions. If your car has full porsche history, give the dealer that has been servicing the car a call, they will most likely be able to tell you everything you want to know about the car and are generally very helpful. I really can't speak highly enough of the service porsche provide in Australia. I recently went through what your going through and spoke to a lot of local people at both porsche, independents and clubs. I bought a '99 C2 coupe with approximately 90k kilometers and have loved driving it. These are truly an exceptional car and very good value for money. By far the best p-car i have owned. Please feel free to pm me if i can provide any further assistance. Slide.
  9. i has exactly the same symptoms you are describing, changed the battery in the fob etc and still no luck. try the 3 methods mentioned by X-UFO in this thread - Central Locking Thread then seperate your key fob, then hold the battery whilst depressing he unlock button. There are a couple or contact points on the negative side of the battery in the fob (3 from memory) and 1 or 2 on the positive side, mine appeared to be contacting the connectors enough to light up the light on the fob but not signal to the alarm and central locking. If you try this and it works (i.e. unlocks the car) you can wedge a small spring or piece of felt in the key fob when you put it back to together to make it work everytime. This method worked for me a saved me the expense of a new key, fob, key cutting and programming. Hope this helps, Brad
  10. thanks for the tips on this all. I was able to diagnose and correct the remote key not working on my '99 996. symptoms i experienced were - - light on key fob was blinking fast (obviously not battery in key fob) - replaced battery anyway - doors would unlock/lock by pressing on dash button (obviously nothing wrong with car electrics) - tried the above "reset" procedures (key fob still didn't work) - pulled key apart and pressed on battery whilst deprssing remote button (car unlocked/locked) - tried to gently bend battery contacts in order to ensure battery was making good contact (had intermittent success) - wedged a small piece of felt inside the key and closed the key (car now remote locks/unlocks like a charm!) i think i will try to get a small spring to wedge in the key in place of the felt for a cleaner fix. thanks to all for your assistance. Brad '99 996 Coupe
  11. apologies if i'm hijacking this thread, but does anyone know what options codes - c23 and 09981 are? I can't seem to find a reference to either of them anywhere? 1998 ROW 996 C2 manual coupe. Cheers, BF
  12. just to answer this question for future reference - the build date plate and and australian compliance plates are located inside the front trunk, drivers side on a RHD vehicle, behind the carpet covering the guard. hope this helps someone in future. Cheers, BF
  13. hi all, I'm looking to buy a second hand 1999 996 and have found a car I am interested in. 1999 · C2 Coupe · 6 speed or Tiptronic) · RHD, RoW I looked at the car on the weekend but failed to note the following details - the build date of the car? and As I'm in Australia, there is also an australian compliance plate affixed to the car which has the compliance date? I'm not sure if these are mentioned in the documentation or need to be taken from the car directly? Any help greatly appreciated. BF
