  1. Hey all,Pardon me if this has been asked before. I moved and I'm trying to find a good indie shop in the Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore area. Are there any around here that any of you locals like? Thanks,AndrewEdit: Did this on the iPad and accidentally hit return instead of backspace so please pardon my misspelled title.
  2. I'm moving to Pleasanton, and I would love to drive it down the PCH, never done that before. Company is in the middle of a reorg and it's all hands on deck or I would. Thanks for the tip keytohwy, I'll look into that.
  3. New job in California so I'm moving from Seattle. Part of my hiring package includes the move, so I can't pick the shipper for the 911 as they have their own people. I believe its going to be loaded on an open car transport truck. I've heard horror stories about what happens to sports cars when you turn them over to other people. I would drive it down if I had the time but I don't. Anything I should do to make sure the car gets down ok? All they've told me is to keep the fuel less than 1/4. I'm sure I'm just worried, but it never hurts right? Thanks for the help guys.
  4. Hey guys. Quick background for you: Love Porsches but not very mechanically inclined, hence my following questions. I have a 2002 4S, got it in '09. It came with a spare set of wheels with winter tires. I stored them in the garage, but have never put them on, and now I'm moving and want to get rid of them. Previous owner is unavailable for comment. My questions are: 1. What kind of wheels are these? I don't want to sell someone some wheels that aren't what they seem. 2. What to condition are these tires in (Blizzak LM 25V 225/45R18 92V, 265/35R18 97V)? One tire has a rip in the sidewall near where the outside of the rear left wheel meets the tire (I think due to curbing, see attached pics). One tire has a small screw in it but judging by the fact that it's holding comparable pressure to the other wheels (that have been sitting stacked in the garage for almost three years) around 20 PSI, does that mean it's been repaired? I measured tread in the middle of the tires and it was in the 6-8mm range. How much life do you think is left? No curb rash on any other wheels. 3. How much should I sell the wheels and tires for? I realize this is an essay so please feel free to answer any part of my giant question. Thanks in advance for all your help guys.
  5. Thanks Loren! Worked perfectly! I had 1728 as one of the codes so I think someone at the dealership has poor penmanship... Or I have terrible eyesight...
  6. Hey guys, Just got mine back from the shop and need to put the code in. I had two codes, one from the dealer and the one from the manual. I tried entering both codes (it shows 4 stars, as I punch in the codes, a star disappears with each digit, then when I'm done all 4 stars show up again and nothing has happened) but I think they either don't work or I'm entering it wrong maybe? Any help would be appreciated! 2002 C4S Model: CR-220/CDR-220 Type: 4462 Serial: 15089051 24/99
  7. Thanks guys, got in touch with the indy who was more in line with your quoted times. I am always thankful for the help I receive here from you guys, thanks again!
  8. Quick question, tried to get a definitive answer from the threads but wasn't really sure. My '02 4S has suffered from a minor coolant leak the entire time I've owned it, finally tracked it down to the front left rad, took it into dealer and they agreed it needed replacing. I'm not quite as adept at car repairs as you pros out there so I am having the indy do the job for me. The dealer is quoting me 5 hours of labor to remove the front bumper and replace the radiator. I trust my indy to do the job, but I haven't gotten a chance to ask him how long it will take yet. Somehow, it doesn't seem like a 5 hour job. Is the dealership stealershipping me or is 5 hours about right?
  9. Plus, the 997.2 has 1/3 the miles! I bet it still has new car smell, that's worth 8k IMO :)
  10. Sorry to go off topic but i was wondering this myself and when I was giving you a +1 rating Loren, I realized you've been at outstanding for quite sometime now and was thinking you need to make yourself some new reputation levels. 1000 rep definitely can't stay at "Outstanding", perhaps "Epic" or "Legendary" or maybe MC Hammer's "Legit." Just my $0.02.
  11. I also got mine off someone upgrading to an aftermarket set up and also installed it without wiring--open all the time and it's a bit louder and deeper with more of a growl than stock when idling but doesn't feel obnoxious. One thing you'll notice is that even without the wiring, it gets significantly louder at around 3300-3400 rpm (variocam maybe?). Quite lovely.
  12. I've had the exact same problem on my '02 4S (including having the Oil pressure gage read 0 bar under hard acceleration), I think it must be a loose connection to the oil pressure sender unit too, though I haven't gotten down in there to check it, also haven't had the problem in a good month or so.
  13. Thanks guys, I will definitely check these things out. Gonna get the cap and tank tested, and get the coolant flushed too. I'll keep you guys updated.
  14. I've searched to find something similar but couldn't really find anything like this among the many coolant issues our cars have :( Car in question is an '02 C4S 6MT. No modifications other than slapping on some used PSEs (no wiring, always open). The issue is this: it has a slow leak. Within a few days to a week or two after being topped off to normal levels (with daily driving), it will have slowly have leaked below the minimum line. There is NO evidence of any coolant leaking under the car when parked or when idling--only a little water from the AC in the front (I believe). When I top it off, it will take maybe .25-.5L, usually distilled water. The operating temp is generally 1-2mm to the right of the middle line above the "8" in "180" on the temp gauge. One incident that occurred about a year or two ago, while waiting to put some gas, with the car idling, I heard a slight pop and gurgling and hissing noises from the back, saw steam in my rearview mirror and watched my temp gauge promptly start to rise. Shut her down and found out that she had dumped all coolant on the gas station floor. Didn't know if the tank had cracked so I had her trailered to the local Porsche Indy and they couldn't find a leak, so it was just filled up and hasn't had an issue like that since. My guess is perhaps a faulty cap? I don't know what to do next because I can't trace the leak, seems to happen while driving with no adverse affects other than me having to keep topping it off. My questions are: 1. What do you think the problem might be? 2. I've been topping off with distilled water, but since it's happened so much the coolant is getting progressively more diluted, should I get it flushed and replaced or should I start topping off with coolant? If coolant what kind? Thanks for all your help guys and sorry if the answer is somewhere that I didn't see when I searched...
  15. Maybe some window markers? I believe that's what the kids use on their friends cars for homecoming etc... They're a pretty cheap option.
