  1. Hello again, After getting an answer to my "where to put the gas cap when filling with gasoline" question I was looking at "TOOL PANTS" pictures and noticed that what I took for a "slot" was really where a part goes. I believe that this plastic or rubber part is what the "locking plunger" goes into to keep the lid from being opened, is missing. I locked the car, using the remote, and the gas lid still opens.....makes one wonder why it was never replaced? Is this a part that one can get without getting a new gas lid? I guess it's just me, but I really hate when things on my cars are not "at the should"! Thanks again for any guidance,
  2. Welcome, There are a few on the 'bay'; a lot of folks have done the MKI or MKII (a 'MOD' that helps the muffler have a better sound) and a lot have put aftermarket mufflers on their cars. Maybe someone on the site has an extra one; just keep checking and one will come up. GL
  3. Thanks for the replies. My car is a 99 and it does have the 'tether' on the cap. My lid, however, doesn't look like either one of the pictures; mine has a kind of 'notch' on the inside front (this would be facing the rear of the car when the lid is closed). On my BMW the 'tether' has a small ball the slides into the notch on the lid; that's why I asked this question in the frist place. So, I can either let the cap 'hang' or take the 'tether' off and put the cap on the plastic slot between the hood and the windshield? Thanks again for your replies, C'ya,
  4. I know this is going to sound kind of, well, non-problematic.............but is there a place to hook the gas cap on while one fills the tank? Because I can't find a 'hook', I have to let the cap just 'hang-down' over the tire while fill the tank and this just seems so....non-Porsche to me. Thanks for any help, C'ya,
  5. Hi Loren, If I'm reading this right, a basic 1999 C2 will not have this problem, if the battery is disconnected; or should I make sure the tank is full anytime I disconnect the battery? thanks, Correct it is only 4WD cars where Porsche used the "saddle bag" gas tank. Those would include C4, C4S, and TT. Thanks you Sir.

  7. WOW, you are UP (or is it going to bed) kind of early/late aren't you? Thanks for the info; I am still trying to find where to get the female plug (that goes into the connector plug) also called the Molex connector? I guess because it is call the VW wire connector I can go to the VW Dealer and get them? Can I get just the "Molex" connector, and just crimp the wire on it, from...say Radio Shack? I have everything (using the switch) but this "Molex" connector. Thanks again for your help,
  8. I will have to second that...................This site has helped me to make my Axel, well, MY CAR. Thanks to you also, Great Site,
  9. Thanks for the information...sorry, but I still have a question about the switch? With the 'stalk' can't one 're-set' the different events in the computer? (lets say I an just starting out on trip and I want to start my MPG at that point and not from driving around town from last week) In my Rover I can bring up the MPG and then push the "re-set" it so it starts over. Can this be done by just putting a switch in, or is there part of the 'stalk' that will only let me do this? Either the 'stalk' or a switch is okay with me, but I really want to be able to "re-set" the different events of the OBC.....and yes I don't really care about the speed/gong because I'm almost always doing that; speed! Thanks again for your input.
  10. Thanks you sir, this looks just like what I'm looking for, I'll look through everything today. Not quite sure about what you were saying about the wire already in your car, going to the white plug, but maybe it will become clear after I study your instructions. Thanks again, this is really helpful.
  11. Loran, Okay, I've looked all afternoon and besides what Joost has posted, I haven't found much on making the OBC work in my car. As Joost has said, "the toggle switch is simple" but I can't find anything about a DIY on putting the stalk and related connections on? I know I'm asking a question that has be asked (maybe many times) before, but I can't find the answer in the search area(there is everything from exhaust to headlights when I put "install OBC stalk" or "OBC switch", for example). I've looked in your DIY area and can't find anything either, so any help would be great. Thanks, again, for your time, C'ya, Did you look at the two links he posted? Yes sir, and they are about using a switch - and very good at explaining how to; I'm asking about putting the OEM 'stalk' and wires on instead of using a switch. I'm guessing that trying to put the 'stalk' on isn't the way to go???? Thanks again for your time,

  13. Loran, Thanks for the quick reply....I do not have the "forth stalk", but from what you're saying I can add a switch that will 'toggle' between the different functions? I do a search and see if I can find it. Thanks again for your help, C'ya,
  14. Hello, My question is about what I call the information computer; the one that will tell miles per gallon, miles until next fill up, true speed, information like that. I was told that my car has this computer but I don't have the 'forth' stick (on the left bottom of the steering wheel) that one would use to see the different information. I was told that because I have the "Temp" showing, under the Tachometer, that the information is there; if it is in there someplace I don't know how to make it change to the different information? Am I being 'lead-on' or is there something to this. By the way, Axel is a 1999 Carrera, with a 6 speed transmission. Thanks for any help, C'ya,
  15. Use the Shell. And yes, the tranny and axle share the same lube and filling the 1 fill hole in the tranny takes care of both. Thanks, I didn't know they shared the same 'HOLE'...........That makes it so much easer. Because I'm so far away from the Dealer and I want to do this job this weekend I'm going with the Redline. Thanks again,
  16. Loran and others, I'm going to replace my manual transmission oil (1999 Carrera) this weekend and would like to ask about the oil ya'll are using. From what I've read most folks are using either redline 75w-90 oil or Swepco-201 oil in their transmissions....true or false? I can't find the Mobil 1 PTX oil, only the Mobil 1 LS oil; the Shell Transaxle 75w-90 oil that the Dealer uses is okay but I'm to far from a Dealer to do the job this weekend......I know that's my problem, it's just that is when I'll have time! So, what would ya'll recomend? Also, does the rear differential use the same oil? And is it just a drain and fill, like the transmission? Thanks for your input,
  17. I did the exact same mods and placed in the exact same spot. I tapped into TC switch for the light and ran to my spoiler switch, which was in the middle opening. I then tapped into the spoiler switch lights and went to the garage door switch at the bottom. By the way I took some clear gloss and sprayed my spoiler switch which had the matt finish and matched the gloss to the other buttons. Looks great! Yes, I think we did it the same.....BUT, do your switches light up when the headlight switch is turned on?????? If so, I really do need to take it apart and see what's-up. While I'm at it I can try your "clear gloss spray" on the garage switch. Thanks for your input.
  18. Okay, I started the engine and turned the lights on and the spoiler nor garage door did anything....until....I pushed the buttons; and as expected, they worked as they should! Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that the switches work, as they should, but I'm not glad that they don't light up with the rest of the interior lights??? So I'll have to take the switch plate back off and see if I can find anything (I'm old school.....must 'touch' everything to see if it isn't as it should be???) wrong with my wiring. I'll let ya'll know if I find anything, C'ya,
  19. I did both these mods, and had the same problem, and I tried tapping all switches on the console. I got them to light up, but when lights are on, the spoiler kept going up and down by itself, and the garage would open or close just by turning the lights on. So right now, they are not lit. The lights in the switch are LED lights, because if you use the wrong polarity, they do not light up. It also looks like the 2 outer connectors on the switch, are also hooked up internally to the middle connectors on the switch, (maybe a resistor or capacitor)thats why my spoiler kept going up and down when the lights are on. I was going to try and open the switch, and make sure there are no internal connections to the center switch terminals we are using. I will try to tackle this as soon as I get some free time. It should be very basic, but I am sure the problem is in the switch. Some people say they got it working, but ???? maybe they can shed some light. By the way, I am using window switches I had laying around, but I don't think this is the problem. Thanks, I'll have to try this when I get home. If, with the lights on, the spoiler and garage door don't just start working I'm guessing that the switches are hooked-up correct? Still not sure why the 'TC' switch will light up (when lights are turned on) and the new switches don't, even though I wired the 'TC' pos (+) and neg (-) post to both the same ones (outter on one side and outter on the other side) on the other two switches???? Just wanted to make sure ya'll understand what I did......I used 'SCOUSER' (thanks) write-up for the spoiler switch (part number 996 613 155 00 A02) and 'ORIENT EXPRESS' (thanks) write-up for the garage opener switch (part number 966 613 119 10 A05; this switch had a mattie finish how ever). Both switches are working as they should, just don't light up when the cars lights are on. This is no big deal, just would make it 'Perfect' - if you know what I mean. Again, thanks for all your help,
  20. Hello again, I've installed the spoiler and garage switchs in my dash and they work great, except they do not light up when I turn the car lights on. I have a "TC" (traction Control) switch on the upper left side and I put the new switches below it, and used the two outter plugs for the light...but the new switches don't come on. The "TC" letter light up, when the lights are on, and the little round light comes on when I put the "TC" switch in the off position. Did I miss something in the 'how-to'? Should I go over to the other switches and tap into one of those (top is door lock, middle is rear de-fogger, bottom is rear wiper)? Thanks for any help,
  21. Not sure about the Boxster, but on the Carrera you: With the ignition on, hold the clock adjust button and turn to the left for about five seconds. Hope this helps.
  22. There should be two rubber grouments part # 999 702 246 40. GL to you and AXEL. :D Thanks, I'll get these as soon as I can. BTW, my wife's family lives in and around Gulfport, we go down there two or three times a year. She just got back last week and will be going back down for a class reunion later this Summer. Maybe we can get together? Thanks again, Patrick
  23. Hello, My name is Patrick and I just bought a Guards Red / black Leather 1999 Carrera Coupe', with 6 speed; I've named AXEL. I looked in the search area and couldn't find an answer to a small question, so I thought I say HI and ask. When my 'complete' air filter housing is bolted in (this means the one 13mm or 14mm bolt located toward the back of the car .ie bumper; about the middle of the box) I can push on the right (passenger side; top) of the box and it will move down. I can grab the part that the air comes down to the filter, and it will move down on that side. I took the complete box out and there are two 'pins' that are on the bottom, rear side, of the box, but no rubber washers in the frame (part of the inner engine compartment) for the 'pins' to go into. SOooooo, am I missing something or is the complete box kind-of loose? Thanks for any help. Patrick
  24. Hello again Loren, I just bought a 1999 996 and the center console lid is broken (as you have stated above). Please advise me on a repair. It looks like I'll have to replace the complete console as the only thing holding the lid on is the little strap. Thanks for any help, Patrick Ford
