  1. I still have mine, its your for $200 if you want it. I switched back to my regular intake system. send me a private email, through the system. Dennis
  2. I see your point now, I think if you went to a non-porsche air duct that would allow you to run a like a K&N or a B&M filter and a cold air pipe that allowed you to mount the MAF it could be made to work. It is going to take some work on your end to figure out the right sizes & parts to buy. Tuners have been making stuff like this work for sometime now. The basic cold air duct is not a complicated piece of hardware, it consists of a tube, coupling, cone filter and two clamps. This way you could use your freshly painted RUF decklid. Now that I tink about it I would a least try to make a cold air duct for it before I gave up. You can give up now or take a chance and you just might make it work. Dennis
  3. Loren is right, The problem would not be so much the airbox but the duct the MAF go's into might not mount up in the same place. GT-3 and Turbo 996 variants have the different engine case design. I would sell it and get the right part for your car, it will be much easier in the long run.
  4. Additional fourm http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2898&hl= D
  5. Hi I just purchased an RUF RGT style deck lid I just purchased. It fits up to the 1999 style airbox and has provisions for the fan assy. If you have the later model wing the air intake vent is in the lower center portion of the decklid. The RGT wing is made to install on a GT-3 , the wing I have is the same exact size but made for a 996. Dennis
  6. Place to get aftermarket exahust parts. in the latest panarama Vertexauto is offering tips for the 996 from $199. Headers are going for $849. Performance mufflers for 996 $789. Nice price I belive this is Schnell brand parts. www.vertexauto.com D
  7. Cool!!! I want these!, the problem with metal doors is that they get door dings, these might need repainting, but I seriously doubt you could dint them. D
  8. Thanks Guys I'll be sure to change my oil prior to putting on the plate. D
  9. I used to live in Texas, I have gotten many a ticket there. The best policy is dont get caught speeding. However now that you have there are a few things you can do. 1. Call the court an request defensive driving school. (this works once) this will allow you to pay the fine and I do not belive it will go on your record. 2. Get a Layer, Police in Texas write hundreds of tickets a day, trust me he cant remember everyone he gave a ticket to. 3. If you were in a small town it gets more difficult to find a Traffic lawyer. 4. Buy the very best Radar detector and keep on at all times. (Check the State Law first) I lived in DFW metroplex we used Traffic Lawyers when ever possible. The bottom line is to take care of the ticket by the court appearance date shown on the ticket by ether no. 1 or 2. Good Luck D
  10. Guy's I got one on order today from Sun Coast Porsche, $87.00. Thanks D Man
  11. Check out my new ducktail from RUF. Waiting on the harness to get here. D :)
  12. Hi I am looking for a nicely designed engine protection plate, I saw one once that allowed you to change the oil with out removing it. The one from Performance Products looks cheap. Any idea's on a good German one for the 99 996 C2 ? Thanks D
  13. Tiptronic is a strange bird, You have to learn how to drive one. You have to remember the computer is shifting now, it might need your input sometimes but not often, Less human in the loop. The Tiptronic I have been told will adapt to you driving style, the road condition, other factors ie: sensors. The older versions like mine (MY99) had 5 shift maps, the newer ones have many times more than this (250). In "Full Auto" (D) position the car will up shift to 2nd most of the time. This is because Porsche in their wisdom saw fit to make the car do this. However in manual (M) the car will start off in first and stay there until ether you hit the shift button or the car hits its own "rev limit" shift point, (there are caveates to this) I have found the most enjoyment from putting the car in (M) in first gear and flooring it, the car will change gears own its own as the car speeds through each "rev limit" as the tachometer climbs. Or you can chicken out and shift the gear yourself. The shift maps you are referring to I belive is the "Warm up map" which is activated at < 32 deg C , in "warm up map" the shift points are offset to higher engine speeds, the transmission is started off in 1st gear, this is done to allow the car to warm up faster. The Drive off gear always starts off in 2nd unless you do one of the following, 1) Perform a Maximum acceleration. 2) In (M) down shift to 1st gear, then Perform a Maximum acceleration.
  14. My car is 1999 Black 996. The emblem I want to be black. Coupe but it going on a RUF RGT wing / deck-lid. So II'm trying to determine which on will look best. The original deck "MY99" had the "Carrera" emblem mounted up on the hump of the deck-lid. The new deck lid Im installing will have a much flatter area along the back. So I think the later design for Coupes will work. Please advise. D Below is a pic of the wing style, you might have never seen one of these, there are not too many around.
  15. Hi I need part numbers for MY99 through MY04 on the "Carrera" emblem's also could I get placment dimensions for both. Thanks D Man
  16. Thats what you call a road dog. Very broken in, my brother used to have a 86 928S that was driven hard everyday for years ended up with like 250K+, the frame had to be repaired from the stress of city driving. My 99 996 has 70K now it gets driven everyday about 30 miles, Weekdays. D
  17. I saw the car when I was in Hershey PA at the Porsche parade. Very nice! See pic below, its one of fifty Porsche built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Porsche Club of America. $120,000 was a number I remember, I would rather have a GT3, However Porsche AG is giving one of these away to some lucky PCA member. D
  18. I have made the big step to get an after market wing. Here is the new tail I'm getting for my 996. I saw only one of these at the Porsche parade in Hershey PA. My first 1975 911S had a ducktail, call me old fashion I guess. D
  19. Porsche Club Tech expert states the following. The maximum size is different from the correct size. Experts do not recommend the maximum size for Street 996, but for reference, This is what they use on the Carrera Cup cars, 9" front, 11" rear. The street GT3 uses 8.5" and 11", which they also do not recommend for your car. The correct size for your car is 8" front and 10" rear, those are the optional ones from Porsche. The offsets would be 50 to 52mm front, and 65mm rear. 17in Wheels where stock that year and 18in were an option. Personally I would only go with the sizes Porsche recommends. There is a TSB on this if you sent me an email I can get you a copy. D
  20. I I think that is 0-W40 a Mobil 1 product, Look at AutoZone, sometimes they are out of it. When I see it I usually by enough to do 2 oil changes. Now concerning the QT low always verify the oil while the car is cold or not be driven for awhile, check the dip stick vs. the Dash guage. Both should match. Ive noticed the guage indicating lower than the stick on occusation. I wouldnt mix oil jut for 1 qt low , I would go find the right oil. Just me. D_Man
  21. I have noticed that the Stick level when compared to the Gauge on the instrument cluster, the stick will read exactly full but the Gauge may be off 1 or two marks low. This depends on if the car is completely cold. I guess there is a certain amount of oil that is on the walls and passage ways of the engine that doesn't drain all the way back in the two minute count down. For me on My 1999 I always (Eng. Off) 1. Check the Oil stick. 2. If checking by gauge, readings are more accurate when the car is Cold and on level ground. D_Man :drive:
  22. Bought 20 Qt's last week at AutoZone, It is always sold out, so if you see some Buy it. I have purchased it at WalMat and AutoZone at times but I rarely see cases of the stuff laying around. You might want to buy a couple of cases online and stock up. D
  23. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hey Look a work around for the PST2 tester. The Scoop is that these Guys bought these testers in Germany from a Porsche house going out of Business, It's a laptop running the same software. http://www.europeantransmissions.com/pst2.htm Dennis
  24. Hey My car a 99 996 C2 does this occasionally in the rain, of all times. I doesn't happen very often but I'm waiting for the day when I come out to the car and its pouring and a window has let it self down. Very strange. Porsche bug I guess. D
