  1. Broke down and did the deed today. Thanks for the help gentlemen. Not nearly as daunting as I had feared. A couple of comments. The 2ft extension and the universal joint are the HOT TICKET! Allows for access to both starter mounting bolts with relative ease. My car is a 2000 C2, and as such a drive-by-wire car eliminating step 3. All in all, much easier than I feared. My 15 year old son and I did it in less than 3 hours, including a run to Sears for the 2' extension! Good luck for others that might need to give this a whirl. Thanks again, -Lennie
  2. Need code please: CRD-220 Serial # X5035422 4462 24/99 Thanks!
  3. My car doesn't have PSM, so I can't comment on that. In talking with the guys at GBOX I decided on the torque biasing. Most of the use of the car is on the street, and I get excellent hook up on low spped corners (track or otherwise). There is no additional noise (when I'm being sensible - I've got fabspeed cat AND muffler bypasses so the car is normally really, really loud, only put the fabspeed maxflow exhaust on when I'm at noise-limited tracks). I'd strongly encourage you to talk to Ryan at GBOX. He spent HOURS on the phone with me before I finally made my decision. Very, very knowledgeable, no hard sells on anything. Good Luck, -Lennie
  4. I had the box in my 2000 996 upggraded to a GT torque biasing uint. I LOVE it. It has totally transformed the car. Well worth the $1400! I track the car several times a year, and it really puts the power to the ground. It's the best $1400 upgrade I've ever done to a vehicle. I had my installed at GBOX (talk to Ryan) in Colorado. Reputable guys, EXTREMELY knowledgeable. Good luck, -Lennie
  5. I had transmission work done at GBOX too, they aslo but in my GT TBD - great guys to deal with and they do warrant. Arranged shipping from ATL to Colorado very reasonable rates. Great guys to deal with. I highly recommend them. (P.S. The TBD has turned the car into a track terror - depending on what you plan to do with the vehicle, spend the extra cash, upgrade and still be less than the cost of the factory rebuilt box! {TBD about $1500}). Good Luck, 2000 996, 6-spd, mk 1 aerokit
  6. Finally got a chance to install my Chrismas present, cat bypass pipes. Saw a lot of different opinions on the various 996 formus about how satisfied people were or weren't going this route, so I thought I'd share mine. The pipes are from Fabspeed, and I've got the O2 simulators. No CEL, no loss of torque even though I'm running muffler bypass pipes as well. As to power, it seems to be more powerful. A DE instructor with the same 3.4L motor in his car said it felt faster to him (although the noise definitely makes it SEEM faster) Of course this makes the car INSANELY loud. If it were my daily driver it would be too loud, but as I'm only a few miles from work and primarily drive the car for fun, I'm OK with it. (As an aside, my son and I came up behind a Camary puttering along on our favorite back road. Without being overly obnoxious, we were biding our time waiting for the guy to turn off. So he actually pulls over and lets us by - no tailgating on our part or anything. First time that's happened.) I'll have to put the mufflers back on for certain tracks (Roebling) and any quiet periods. Current configuration saves me about 60 lbs over the stock systems. The cats alone are only about 14 lbs heavier than the bypass pipes. Install took about 2 hours total with the car up on ramps. All in all I am very pleased. P.S. My son's 16 year old friend said the car is so loud he thought "God was SCREAMING at him". 2000 C2 Mk1 Aero Kit 52k miles
  7. Many OEM Porsche wheels have the offset and width cast into them near the valve stem. I'd check there for a start. (they are probably 10's).
  8. Looks great, but a lot of cash for something that doesn't make you go faster...
  9. Can't recall if the CLK55 is supercharged or not. If it is - go that way. I have a 2006 CLS55 in addition to my 2000 C2. Even though it is a dogamatic, it is brutally fast and loads of fun. The torque is incredible (500+ ft lbs). Both my 15 and 3 year olds love it.
  10. Let me try and upload a pic (sorry about the marginal quality)...
  11. Have spent a good part of the morning sifting through the hundreds of posts/questions on coolant leaks. What I have barely qualifies as such, and it is really more of a drip or two, and only after the engine is hot, as it cools it stops. I was having my car teched for DE and asked the shop to look into it and they said it was a "bypass valve gasket" leaking that needed replaced. I didn't see anyone else experiencing this problem. The shop isn't a Porsche specialist shop so I'd love a second opinion. Alos would appreciate the part # of said gasket. Thanks in advance! -Lennie 2000 C2
  12. I've done some searching, but can't seem to find a good 996 starter motor replacement DIY. I read on this forum that the starter can be replaced from the top of the engine, but that it may or may not require removing the alternator. I've found a 993 DIY where the starter motor is accessed through the passengers side wheel well. Any practical advice out there (short of taking it to the dealer!)? Car is a 2000 Carrera w/49k miles.
