    Just did my water pump this past August. The sound in your video clip are exactly the sounds that I had before it completely failed. I would call Sunset Porsche and deal with them. I ordered new pump, gasket, and new thermostat with gasket for under $325 with shipping.

    Same thing happened to me when doing my brakes, except it happened when taking it off. what worked for me was to drill out the screw within the size of the hole (I think I used a 5mm bit) and remove any material with a very small needle nose plier and then retap the hole with the same exact size tap.. I think it's 6x16 screw, so the tap is easily matched. Cheers!

    Ayup.. Water pump blew chunks on the way home from work on Friday... Now the fun begins...

    Just priced a OEM Water pump with gasket, thermostat with gasket for $282.89 from sunset porsche. I try to stick with OEM when it's and engine part.. Just my two cents..

    Hello, So this morning I noticed an odd clunk/knocking sound coming from my '00 986 2.7 engine. It sounds strange to me becuase it's cyclical. goes away for 3 seconds.. comes back for 3 seconds.. Kinda sounds like a little congo drum in my engine bay.. Hope it's belt related. Here's a link to a movie I took this afternoon Listen close its starts around 6 seconds in.     Well the noise is gone !! I did a series of maintenance services this weekend including a new accessory belt. I guess Dan Jacobs was right, his first guess at the noise was a worn belt or a bad pulley. Cheers !! Thanks for all the input.

    Hello, The clutch has to be involved. I'm guessing throwout bearing.

    It's a very short squeal that only last for maybe 2 seconds.. It never happens at idle, or while moving.. Just when you take off with a bit of mustard (fast takeoff).

    My 2000 Boxster has been making a mysterious squeal at take off for quite some time (at least 1 1/2 yrs). It only happens at take off, and only when I goose her a bit (quick take-off). I feel it in the clutch pedal (almost like a slip) and is making me think that this could be a bad throwout bearing? It has not gotten any worse or better in 20K miles. I went to my Porsche mechanic: He said that most likely the culprit was failing accessory belt pulleys that have worn out, so that when a significant amount of torque is dumped on them they squeal. Has anybody ever had an issue like this?? Any info is greatly appreciated ! Jim

    Thanks Loren, I've seen these articles and other ones from pelican parts. I'm still trying to figure out if I need a whole assembly or just the switch. I think my real question is does this behavior sound as if it's just a switch replacement? Regards, Jim

    Hello, Noticed this morning that my 2000 Boxster's ignition switch was acting very strange. They key is very difficult to get in and once it's in, it sometimes will have no resistance and can completely make a full circle in the key hole. It also gives me trouble taking it out and sometimes the dash lights and gauges are still on after the key finally comes out? I'm guessing a new switch is needed? Does anybody have any experience with this type of behavior? Any help is greatly appreciated. Jim.

    Could be the rear main seal.
