  1. Ray, Any update on this job you did? I may have to tackle this and am curious if there are any necessary gaskets to replace, special tools or tricks with the fuel rail etc. I have a coolant leak (see my topic coolant leak) and can't seem to pinpoint where it's coming from. Since I also have a starter bushing noise I figured I might as well pull the intake and do both at once. Thanks, Craig
  2. My vehicle is a 2004 Cayenne S. I also thought the tubes, but the leak seems to be coming from the bottom of the engine. I know water (or coolant) will find its own flow but if I understand the plastic tube location right they are at the top of the engine under the intake. It just doesn't seem to be dripping from up top. Do I take off the manifold and check anyway? Is it impossible to have coolant leak from the location I photo'd? My guess is that only oil would leak from the lower block area. Thanks for the engine photo!
  3. If anyone could help guide me on this one I would really appreciate it. I was driving home with the family last night when the "Low Coolant" light came on. I watched my tempeature and proceeded home. As I was within 1/4 mile of home the temp went way up to the redline. I filled it with coolant today and ran it to temperature, put the truck on jack stands, removed the lower cover and looked for the leak. It didn't leak initially until I shut the engine down. Then it decided to trickle out of the bottom of the engine. I looked closer and it seemed it was at the block. The best photo I could get is attached. Can anyone advise? The nearest Porsche dealer is a hour away! The photo shows the leak just towards the rear of the oil drain plug at the bottom of the motor. Craig
  4. You might be correct. I had it happen again but noticed the fuel pupm start up sound right before the hesitation. Do you know if it an easy fix? Is the pump external or in a place I can easly swap it out or is it in the tank?
  5. I just had a hesittion at start up and it continued while driving. I immediately thought coils or plugs. Since it seemed electrical I decided to do my old standby and disconnect the ground under the drivers floor mat. I started the car up... no hesitation. I don't get this vehickle. I had a dash info center go crazy on me a couple of months ago and disconnecting the ground cured that problem as well. I can't believe the electrical gremlins in this truck. I will have to create an after market switch to disconnect the battery every time I have a problem!!! (just kidding) Most sane people would have divorced their truck by now but I'm willing to work through our problems. I don't know why I keep coming back for more but I still love the Cayenne. P.S. I just replaced the battery 2 months ago so I know that is not the issue. Any thoughts? Craig
  6. I went the Auto Zone / Advanced auto route. The battery is vented through a vent tube and is very specific in size. The replacement battery was exactly the same as the factory original.
  7. I had the same problem. Mostly in the morning at start up for the first few minutes, then it would work the rest of the day. I tried new bulbs, cleaning the contacts, and tightening the light. The only thing that worked was putting bulb grease on the base of the bulb before you install it. Bulb grease is like petroleum jelly (vasaline) available at any auto parts store for $1.00.
  8. Seller info on Key: Ebay seller name (rovno70) Item 3: 310102688392 The key case opened below the the key and included the area under the battery cover that surrounds the battery (the semi-circle area. If you carefully take a razor blade you can work it free. My key was in poor shape so I wasn't afraid to damage it. I will try to follow up with photos. Craig
  9. I just did this. You almost have to desroy your key to take it apart. I bought a replacement on ebay for $45.00 and swapped out my key and the board. You just had to put a little super glue on the key to keep it together. The one I bought from ebay was already separated making my job really easy. Let me know if you want the name of the ebay supplier and I'll look it up. Craig
  10. It was a 13mm bolt that attached to the body (the main ground). It is located under the plastic cover closest to the center console.
  11. I just thought I would pass this along. I was going to post a question on this subject but I now have the solution. I live in SW Florida where even in the winter things can be pretty hot. I parked my car facing due South the other day on a very clear day. For some reason the heat on the dash caused my information display monitor to get all pixilated. I have had the top and bottom dim from time to time (on hot days). I thought it would reset after cooling or a couple of starts but nothing! I then decided to disconnect the ground at the base of the drivers seat thinking it would reset it. That did the trick.
  12. Referring back to the post "kazoo" sound I am getting this sound a bit more regularly and have decided to see if the starter is the location of where my intermittent start-up squeel is coming from. Has anyone else dealt with this or replaced their starter before? Thanks, Craig
  13. Try this tire calculator. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
  14. Mudmann, The "Kazoo" sound is dead on. It squeels then stops within seconds after start-up.
  15. Have you been successful in locating the cause of this? I have the same sound but haven't narrowed it down yet.
  16. Thanks. I'll check the cabin filter. I just replaced the battery so I don't see an issue there. It is clearly through the vents when the A/C is on.
  17. I am stumped with this one. Once in a while when I turn the wheels hard and move forward 2-5 mph I get what sounds like a clicking sound from the front end. It does not happen all of the time. Could it be caused by the differential? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  18. Has anyone ever had an occasional chemical /alcohol (possible power steering fluid) smell com from the air vents of their Cayenne? I have a 2004 S.
  19. Josh, Were you having any tire wear (inside) other than the clunking noise? Did they replace both control arms (both sides and or upper or lower)? Thanks, Craig
  20. I had the same shaft replaced. One dealer quoted me over $1,000 for the shaft. Another dealer charged me $645 and two hours labor at $104 per hour. I chose the latter. They also guaranteed the part for two years and lifetime labor.
  21. I bought an 04 S a year ago from a non Porsche dealer. I thought I was being smart by taking it to the dealer that was literally across the street to have them go over the vehicle and do any warranty updates on the vehicle. They said everything checked out great and it was a solid vehicle. I asked "were there any common problems on this year Cayenne"? They said just the coils. I proceeded to purchase the vehicle only to find out on they way home I had to avoid an animal in the road and went to use my horn (no horn)! Thanks for the 2 hour "complete" inspection! My milage in mixed driving is close to 16 and 22 on the HWY. I still love this Truck. I would prefer a 911 but this is the closest thing to that when you have to drive the family and clients around. I would reccomend the following: Get an extended warranty If money were close consider the turbo Stay away from the 04 (without a warranty) Expect to service this vehicle a bit more than the average car. Problems I have experienced: Cardan (drive shaft) 52k miles $950 at the dealer Rear hatch supports (easy to replace difficult to get at) $75 Electrical A/C servo motors (intermitent gerbal noises) Headlight turn signal beeps every morning (moisture issue) Horn, not too difficult $25 Insrument info screen goes dim on hot days The best thing you have already done it to ask the members of this forum. They are the best resource for you question and are extremely helpful! Best of luck!
  22. Has anyone replaced these yet? I am getting an occasional clicking when I get my wheels at a 45 degree angle (in a parking situation only). Shoud I replace the bushings only or is it more cost effective to upgrade the arms? Has anyone done this DIY? Thanks, Craig
  23. Has anyone removed the rear bumper lower valance on an 04 Cayenne S? It's the black lower portion. I was trying to find out the extent of what I needed to remove (whole bumper, lights, wheel wells etc). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Craig
  24. Front or rear? If it's the drivers rear, I had the same problem that ended up being the sunroof dran tube connection (see my response to another post in the spring of 2008). Good luck.
