  1. Very welcome! Glad it worked out great. I had to go back and reinstall my wheel 1 groove over so it would be straight.
  2. Cleaning them is exactly right! That's why they are my track wheels now so I don't worry as much.
  3. 65 offset? That is for a narrow body 996. You should running a 47 offset on a 986. It's like having you stock wheels (47) and adding a 18mm spacer! Outside the fender is what you will get.
  4. Just a radio reset. I did the wheel change last year and followed that advice as a precaution so as to not discharge the airbag. No error code, just radio.
  5. Not sure what you meant by "sport design?" but I was referring to the sport design wheels. Sport design option interior? Are you referring to the Sport seat, leather, and aluminum trim?
  6. Nice! Sport Designs are my favorite wheel on the 996 and 986.
  7. Excalty.....as DD694 said, leave this to the professionals. This is not a DIY.
  8. Not to burst your bubble but this is not going to be anything other than alot of just "obtained" invalid data. You have already started off on the wrong plane to obtain a "statictically accurate" result. Think about the people you are surveying and who they represent. A very small % of Porsche owners and more specifically those with the desire to post on the boards. Not to mention you never get somebody posting that their engine is great. You see a large number of failure posts b/c this is the place to post them. Nowhere else. PCNA, PAG don't care and your letters to them usually go ignored...ESPECIALLY if outside the warranty period. The only reason I bring this up is unless you have a significant amount of time and want to take this on as a hobby, nothing valid can come out of it. Message boards do not represent at all the "population" of Porsche owners and for you to even have a chance a obtaining a valid result you would need to sample from THAT population with everyone being given an equal chance to be selected for response......NOT voluntary reporting which is going to severely bias your results. You failure formula is not something you want to everyone to use since it is nothing more than your view based on inaccurate results and can only scare owners into a panic about anything obtained since your "failure formula" said so. You really need to think about what you are trying to do here. This is not empirical in any way, shape, or form. While I admire your endeavour, I just want to make sure you understand the reality of this from somebody who does this for a living. FYI......my Ph.D. is in reserach methods and statistics.
  9. Use the search function. This topic has been covered alot and you will be able to get quite a bit of info. Clearbra's are like exhaust and tires, they are a personal preference. FYI....the dealer doesn't do the install, they sub out the work and then upcharge you.
  10. skeptic? What in the world warranted that comment?
  11. Yup...one of the great things about these cars. Here's a little snipet from Porsche: Electronic engine management is one of the most effective means of achieving optimum engine performance at all times. In the 911 model range, this function is performed with precision by the Motronic ME7.8 engine management system. Its principal role is to control the electronic throttle valve, a prerequisite for Porsche Stability Management (optional equipment on the 911 Targa). In addition, the engine management system controls all functions and assemblies directly related to the engine (see diagram). All Motronic functions are electronically regulated and based on a continuous supply of carefully monitored input data. The results are optimized fuel consumption and lower exhaust emissions under all driving conditions, as well as increased performance and torque. Another important task of engine management is cylinder-specific knock control, a function that prevents cylinders and pistons from being damaged at high revs. Since all six cylinders never operate under exactly the same conditions, knocking is controlled separately for each cylinder, with ignition timing adjusted individually where necessary.
  12. If you are in Vegas anytime soon I would be happy to help.
  13. You won't necessarily have a less powerful car since the car has a memory that adapts to your driving habits as well as other factors (like gas sensors, etc.). Go put a 1/4 tank of 100 octane when you are on empty next time and go drive (spirited) for a bit and you will get a good idea of what the car can do powerwise with great gas!
  14. Carnewal is only good right now for those of you in Europe as our dollar is in the toilet right now! Gosh darn war!!!
  15. You won't find it in public literature since the 955 is an internal code. There was an article in last months Pano or Excellence talking about naming and numbering and a brief history about it (all cars and why it is done). Obviously, the Cayenne doesn't have anything to confuse it with but when you say you have a Carrera then it gets sticky so there is the internal naming system used by enthusiasts so as to differntiate which model you are referring to. Obviously, this is my brief take on the article and it does a MUCH better job of explaining it.
  16. The going rate on eBay right now for a new one is $200-$250. You can get them at $199 every once in a while.
  17. I'd be interested in the final weight delta. Please post an update.
  18. Try this link.....they come in both metal and plastic as well as plain and black painted crest. http://www.tweeks.com/shop?frame=5.64.2374
  19. That's odd. I haven't seen those before. Seen several variations of it though. No part number on any of the caps? If you (or the original owner) ordered new with the car uponm delivery then it would be listed on the options sticker. Do you have any of that info?
  20. It's like wearing boxers over your briefs. There is a thread over on Rennlist regarding a company that is having an "open house" that specializes in clearbra's. I think their name is Premier.
  21. So do you want a regular bra or a clearbra? Can't do both. Where are located?
  22. Did you order based on the part number on the back of the cap? Do you have a pic of the cap you are talking about?
