  1. Thanks Loren this answered my question too. Someone else mentioned you can the tequipment stuff (moldings and such) painted from the factory, do you know anything about that? Thanks in advance
  2. Just a note guys, the Tequipment catalog you posted is for Gen 2 Cayenne's not your years, I would get firm confirmation anything will fit from the gen2 to the gen1 before I spent the money. Happy hunting...
  3. Hey anything for a fellow Calgarian! Happy New Year
  4. Steve, Congrats, I can try a couple of the issues you mentioned; the tail light housing comes out easy by opening up the tailgate and undoing a couple of screws then the housing comes out. I would take out the bulb assembly and use a towel on a chopstick or something to dry them out. As stated you need to find out why water is entering. As fas as the cornering light it's the bulb right beside the xenon that points off to the side. When you turn your wheel it lights up in that direction. You need to remove the full headlight assembly ( please get an owners manual if you don't already have one as all the instructions are in it). Once you have the assembly out you can replace the bulb. My issue was the actual housing as I tried two bulbs but kept getting the error. The dealer replaced the housing (for the cornering bulb) under warranty. As far as the audio/BT/etc. To me there is too much electronics here to do it myself, so I would farm it out to someone who has done many cayennes before (but that's just me) Good luck.
  5. Most lower valve covers will leak and the fix is to replace them with the turbo valve covers which are thicker and have more rigidity. Replace gaskets at the same time of course.
  6. Hmmm, did it ever work after the work done? Check the distributor there is a green wire there and see f it's connected or broken, also check the spark plug wires to make sure they are going to the right cylinders. If all that pans out I would suspect the warm up regulator. You can gently hit this with a rubber mallet while the engine is running and see if it changes the hunt. Good luck
  7. That's a tough call with those facts... Does it eventually start?, spark, fuel, electrics is what you need to troubleshoot. Does it always start in the cold? Do you know for sure the starter is good, or the ground strap to the car is not oxidized? Could be so many things WUR, AAR, battery, etc. Need more info.
  8. Removing the washer bottle has got to be one of the biggest PITA jobs there is. Are you sure that's where the blockage is? As stated the check valves right at the nozzles usually go first and they are expensive for such a small item. I replace the tubing from the pump after replacing the check valves as they were really plugged. I just took my old tubing to a hardware store found the same circumference stuff and cut to fit. My pump was also going so I got one from a VW dealer as it was a lot cheaper than the Porsche one, but almost the exact same pump. If you can save the bottle 'till last it's best as it's a cut knuckle/4 beer job at best. Cheers
  9. You are right, there is no smog pump on this engine, just the blower motor on the left side. If you want to remove emissions stuff, replace the exhaust and cat with SSI's and a sport exhaust, you will be pleased with the performance change.
  10. There is no such thing as an 86 SC; the SC years were 1978-1983, after that it was just a Carrera. As for price and condition it is so much in the unknown right now, with the economy you should be able to pick up a splendid example at a great price. The auto forums (autotrader, etc.) can give you a good idea of what vehicles are going for now a days, check many different medias and you can form your own understanding of "worth" Good luck
  11. Kimbo, This is my first reply in the 911 forum, I usually hang out in the caynne forum here and other 911 forums. Anyway 3 words for you; read, read, read. There was a good article (I think on Pelican) as what to look for in an SC. The one you mentioned has me concerned in one area; the bare metal under the floor mats, Porsche used a heavy rubberized coating on the floors to provide sound/protection that is really hard to remove. If the owner didn't do it, and doesn't know why it was done I would pass on the car. Why did you exclude the '79? It has bigger ports and because of this can get better performance with upgrades. I searched for 2.5 years to find mine and was happy I waited, I looked at probably 13 before I found mine. Things I can remember are; Spring centered clutch as you mentioned, definitely needs pressure fedd chain tensioners and a pop-off valve. The gears should be "clunky" compared to modern cars but they should not be too hard to engage (except second gear from a high RPM pull from first), as this might be an indicator 1st and 2nd need a rebuild and new dog teeth. Any signs of rust I would be concerned with as with rust there is usually more you can't see. Also a trick is to run you finger under the fenders, Porsche "dimpled" the fender lips to protect them and if the panels were repaired or replaced most repairs didn't apply this approach so you know they were changed. Once again read a lot, Pelican and Rennlist are other good forums and the more knowledge you have the better. When you do buy try to keep $ 2000 as a reserve for yearly issues as there will be issues. These cars are old and do need good maintenance, and replacement parts, but award the owner many years to good times. Good luck in your hunt
  12. Yes after driving it more, I find it really depends on the conditions, ice snow, freezing type of snow etc. I have to agree that the truck "lets" you get out of shape before kicking in, but it does take a while to get used to. I am able to correct better now that I have driven it more, but when you are beside other traffic and it's icy, I still think it let's it go too far before kicking in. Mine does not like really cold either, the 4x4 warning has come on a couple of times now when I start her up, and yesterday there was no sound from the speakers at all, not to mention if the park sensors get any crud on them they go away (red). I'll mention this stuff to the dealer at the next service interval as I think it's crap that the 4x4 would fault when you need it the most. Oh well, I still love the fat pig :D
  13. im in calgary any issues parking cayenne in the cold (below 20 degrees Celsius) during the day? i dont have indoor parking at work :( I'm in Calgary too, no she sits outside and started everyday this week. The only issue I had are the first real cold day the truck said the 4wd had an issue (which it didn't), I could barely turn the wheel due to the steering fluid being thick, and my front and rear park control were down due to dirt/snow/freezing. Other than that it's worked well.
  14. Thanks she started at -34C so I think I'm going to be OK. I didn't like the whistling sounds coming from the turbos though... I'm surprised in that they winter tested them here (in Northern Alberta) but didn't feel a block heater was warranted....what you going to do.....
  15. Wow, do have to run race gas? :D No I was more interested in the turbo numbers are they giving them sans boost?
  16. Hi, Does the compression numbers for the turbo account for the turbo or not at 9.5:1 (I assume not but I am having a discussion at work) Same goes for the 911 Turbo, when they quote compression is this off boost? If so the compression sure seems high. Thanks in advance,
  17. Hi, Was a block heater an option on 05 CTT, or standard equipment? I've looked for a plug in the engine bay, but can't find one. It's suppose to go down to -29F tonight, and I wouldn't mind plugging her in. Thanks in advance,
  18. Sorry, yes I noticed the PSM light flashing today going around corners. Yes the truck does do well in a straight line, but I kicked the back out again a few times and noticed the PSM didn't even cut in until I was more than about 75 degrees around (the back end), to me this seemed like too much. I guess I just have to get used to it a little more and understand the dynamics of the PSM. I will re-post after a few more weeks, right now it's wet snow and some ice (Ice i slid through the intersection with the ABS going full tilt so I would blame the tires) but I want to see it in really cold snow.
  19. Sorry I guess I should have been more clear; I am running 18" wheels with brand new Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow. Yes I will agree the big fat tires are not nearly the same as skinny ones, but I went with the smallest ones I could to fit over the rotors. Yes I agree the pickups need rear weight, but I've never had to do that with an SUV (I've owned 6), and I know how to drive in the winter. Don't get me wrong I love the truck, but I'm used to huge understeer in a full-time 4wd, and I don't get any of that in the Cayenne. I wish there were some indicator lights telling me the PSM is kicking in (it's always on) as with other vehicles. If it is engaging I don't feel it, or I am correcting the slide before it kicks in which seems silly as I let the back end get out there pretty good. ABS works fine as I feel it kick in when stopping on ice, so I guess I'm just not sure if the PSM is coming on. I guess one test would be take the same corner of my street with PSM on and let her slide out, then take it again with PSM off; really the only way to tell. Stay tuned....
  20. So we got about 8" today so I thought I would take the truck out to see what it's like in the snow and I must say I was a little disappointed. It drove more like a car, and I was able to bring the back end out at will with no sign on PSM or traction control intervention. I thought with all the bells and whistles on these vehicles it would have caught the slides and spins a little better. My wife's Expedition performed better with it's traction control. Anyone else had a similar experience?
  21. Definitely fills out the wheel wells nicer..... Not really what you asked for but mine is grey on grey. Wheels are 22inch though. wifes daily driver
  22. I would love to get some black wheels for my silver truck (summer driving), but I have a few issues; the first one being the price of some of them - Unreal. The second is I got brand new 20" summers with the truck and I do like a little rubber on the ground so I would want to stay with 20's. The final issue is I have not seen any I like. So I thought I would ask here and try to get some pictures. I'm running Sport Technos, bu I would like a more "mesh" type wheel to show off the red calipers. Anyway pictures would be great, Thanks.
  23. It does look like it's blue loctite, but I see their point (and disclaimer) to get new screws. I will check tomorrow to see how much, and if available the new ones are. Could I do an article with pictures for here? Bob That would be your option. If it were me I would use Locktite as long as the screws are not damaged at removal.
