  1. I doubt a RS version of 997 will sell well. It'll cost more, deliver less in features but perform better. To most, that's not a good trade off. If that's what ppl want, most P car owner would end up owning Elise instead of 987/997. Most 911 sold these days have $10k+ options bc people want Nav, power seats, seat warmer, 19", cup holders, etc. Porsche make a killing on options. I think what's amazing about 996 & 997 is that these cars deliver both performance and comfort. It's not easy to do both so well. It's easy to build a speed machine but not so with comfort. To save 400-500lb, Porsche will use CF panels before selling a 911 that's almost 100k without AC and power window. It's marketing and what people expect from Porsche - no compromise.
  2. Didn't R&T declare the 997S to be the best sports car under $100k? HP isn't everything. If that were the case, I'd buy a viper or even a C6. Cayman or Boxter will/is a good performance sports car. But it's not a 911.
  3. No, BOSE is not always MOST based. BOSE was offered in 2002 and used normal wiring, not MOST. I've been told BOSE amp and speaker are incompatible with aftermarket headunits and there are no adapters. Yours was not a BOSE right? I have yet to see an aftermarket HU hooked to BOSE amp/spkr.
  4. To change RMS seal, just tranny needs to be out. Some shops will also remove engine to check for other possible leaks on the sides of the engine just to be sure.
  5. so yours isn't bose right? i have been told bose amp won't work w standard HU
  6. sport seats and regular seats are completely different seats. Not sure what bat wing has to do with the seats. butt warmer switch are located in bat wing and that's optional. I don't think steering wheel size or height is different between 3 and 4 spoke. Sport shifter has a shorter throw thus lower height and more precise.
  7. Your 986 had HIFI or BOSE? If BOSE, you can't use the BOSE amp I don't think.
  8. Sorry to hear about your mishap. I don't think there is a recall on engine failure. You'll have to pay for a new engine it looks like. You may try to file a claim. Sometimes Porsche will split the cost of engine replacement with you since it failed prematurely. Make sure it's installed by dealer properly to minimize possible RMS due to misalignment of engine & tranny.
  9. Someone ripped it off :D Or your hood is replaced after a rear end accident!
  10. How is the condition of the coolant. It's supposed to be lifetime but it may be good to check if it's dirty or simply running low.
  11. If you are concerned about engine not getting lubrication upon start up or idle while on an incline, I don't think you'll have to worry. Your oil pump should deliver enough oil to lube the engine at idle / start up. At idle, engine doesn't need as much lubrication as when you are at high RPM. Do you notice the car to be harder to start? Hopefully, good synth oil that flows well should prevent any slight delay in starting up.
  12. There are some real good wheel repair shops. If you can find one, I wouldn't rule out repainting the wheel. Alternatively, your dealer may have some take off wheels for cheap. I'd be more concerned about your suspension. Hope it's not damaged but since your PSM is coming on, the dealer should check it out for you. Repairing urethan scratches is ok. They'll sand it, repaint it. If it's cracked or dented, then that's something else. My philosophy is everyone makes mistakes once in a while. If the repair can be done for less and produce same results, I don't punish others for mistakes I may do someday. Good Karma I guess.
  13. You can install everything except bumper, which has lots of curves. Hood is a little difficult but not impossible to do yourself. Fender, mirror are easy and takes a few minues each.
  14. Your oil level should be within the dipstick range. Middle of the mark is fine. Don't go over the max or else you'll have foaming which doesn't lubricate engine well. If you have too much oil and it's causing foaming, drain all engine oil and refill. The startup screeching is hard to diagnose without hearing where it's coming from. It could come from loose belt, bad starter, poor engine lubrication etc.
  15. where do you drive 80-140mph?? that's reckless if you do it regularly on the highway. i'd replace the tire if you are worried about it and you should be since you drive at high speed. only replace one though.
  16. 15k includes cabin filter change (easy $25 part for DYI), brake check, air filter check, suspension check, exhaust check, fluid top off, wiper replacement. All the inspection is important. If you don't have a ramp or jack to life the car to check yourself, you should have a shop do it. Those 27 point inspects are limited to visual without putting your car on a lift. That's not enough.
  17. PREMIER MOBILE AESTHETICS GROUP Venture Paint Protection Film Certified Paintless Dent Repair Technicians CAG Certified Window Tint Specialists Premier Auto Detailing & Rejuvenation Business: 510-390-6920 Business: 510-406-1500 They use Venture which is a lifetime warranty film. 3M only warrantees for 5 yrs I believe. Sam is a great person that takes his time. He can come to your house or work for install. Prices are great too. A few others on rennlist have been referred and are happy with results. Do a search on Premier Mobile in rennlist to see my pics and other's results.
  18. They can drop the engine to check for leaks around the side of engine too in case your lead isn't just RMS.
  19. if the repair isn't satisfactory, have someone else fix it or getnew one. i'd be very careful who touches your car next time
  20. I didn't have any problem with a normal ramp from any autoparts store. They are only $25. No approach angle issue esp since it's the rear that needs to go up. I'd say it's much easier and faster than jacks. The tire also sits fine on the ramp. I'd recommend it big time. Best tool for the money!
  21. I think it's about 1.5-2k installed for OEM top. aftermarket top will be cheaper. seems like a waste to replace the top just for color.
  22. Make sure the RMS is fixed by a reputable dealer and you get a 1-2 yr warranty on the RMS repair. Sometimes oil leak come from seals on the side of the engine and not just RMS alone. This require removal of engine.
  23. Get the warranty, you'll recover it easily. dealer should do the 30k svc for you since it'll cost them little. It's worth about $700. Warranty (make sure it's certified from Porsche, not 3rd party) is worth $2k.
