  1. Don't think an 02 [Mk2] will loose any codes, and I don't buy the 'shorting' comment either.
  2. I'm interested in hearing about your conversion. What ECU are you using? What wiring harness?
  3. To me, yes. I don't have very many miles on my PSS10 setup yet, but so far I am very impressed for the ride quality while being much lower.
  4. I don't have much experience with the stock 996 suspension, but 110k generally sounds like a lot of usage. I would also have to think that some or most of the bushings should be inspected for wear and/or replacement. I just had some PSS10s installed [LINK] and the ride is much more compliant than my US Sport suspension was with ~42k on it.
  5. Totally unattended for 7 months? I'd pull the battery; forget the charger. Leave the hood popped. The rest of the suggestions sound good.
  6. I'd check the dipstick before you consider draining any oil. Follow the directions in your OM for the procedure. I doubt 0.3 of a quart is anything to fret over, but check to make sure.
  7. One point of clarification: the t-stat chosen by the factory is not done so to run in a 'very large variety of climates' – its set at that temp for the engine to operate at optimal efficiency. If you are already overheating, a lower t-stat doesn’t increase the cooling capacity of the system; it simply delays the overheating process.
  8. Have you considered to find out the size of the stock fan and find a spal pusher the same size that moves more CFM?
  9. IMO, if there is still a warranty left on the factory reman engine, I'd head to the dealer where it was installed and start that discovery process. If not, the sky is the limit.
  10. Had a similar event recently. Went to the dealer where there is a factory set of ~30 keys they can try. Buy a replacement tire first though and bring it with you since you have no spare.
  11. Fair point, but what then is he supposed to do with that info? Sure, it would be nice to know, but whatever metals are present, someone at the dealer or PCNA will know where they are coming from. And even if not, a simple trend trend in wear materials can be used to demonstrate to the dealer [or PCNA] that there is and has been a problem for X number of months, miles, or time frame with certain internal components based on these wear materials. Both approaches I guess satisfy same goal - a documented trend of wear materials.
  12. Scott, that's great to hear. I recently made my first purchase with FVD here in the US (spacers), and they were great to deal with.
  13. Ouch. Many thanks for reporting back, saving other the diagnosis fee.
  14. The paint or epoxy you use should provide application guidelines. Typically above 50 or 60*F
  15. When was the last time it was replaced? If you can't be sure, I'd go ahead and have it done since you already have it in the shop. Money well spent IMO Loren, I don't see a factory interval for coolant service for USA cars, major or minor services. Any pointers?
  16. Just to be absolutely sure, if you haven’t already, I’d try installing a new signal bulb yourself since they are only a couple bucks, and/or, check the contacts for the bulb receptacle; clean if necessary . Seems bizarre that the socket gets power, but a bulb doesn’t illuminate; if it gets power, it has to. If CPO isn't going to cover it, might as well try an indie shop as well.
  17. For the street flavor PCCB, they are drilled; I bet they are engineered just fine. Link
