  1. 30 K service is anywhere from $700-900. Get a "head to toe" pre-purchase inspection from a reputable dealer (if you can find one) or a solid independent. It should cost you around $300.00 for the pre-purchase inspection and it should give you a good snapshot of the state of your car. 2K for extended warranty is a bit high. More like 1500-1700.00. For every person you ask if the extended warranty is worth it there will be egual numbers that say it isn't. So, whatever blows air up your skirt...go for it...
  2. OK thx...so then its true that round bottom women and Porsches really do make the world go round! Thx for the lesson... Jim
  3. I fell asleep in physics and I've spent to much time in law...what the heck is a polar moment? Thx
  4. Yep...I've seen them. They are like little cord stips of rubber with some form of distressting/abrassive and pushing tool combined...what type of tire inflator did you use...I've seen them also, they plug into your cig lighter and blow up your tire...seems like a lot of work on the roadside... Thx... Jim
  5. Thx for the input...did you get the 997? The reason why I asked is that since there is no spare in that car, I was under the assumption there was some form of pressurized repair. What does the car come with, if anything for flat repair... Thx... Jim
  6. So far, every other car I own (3) over the last 2 years has had at least 1 flat except my Porsche...1 Nail puncture, 1 screw puncture, a sparkplug thru a sidewall (unrepairable) and believe it or not a PAPER CLIP thru the sidewall of a brand new Michelim Pilot with less than 200 miles on it --- also unrepairable...replaced by America's Tires under warranty. My question is this... Has anyone had any experience with using a 'fix a flat' type tire inflator for roadside emergency repairs? I've never used a can of this stuff before and I keep one in the Porsche 'just in case'. Never having had a Porsche flat and understanding that the only place to put the flat tire is on the passenger's seat which is fine with me because I think I'd rather leave my wife by the side of the road than one of my wheels...it seems to me that these canned fix a flat type things might be the way to go except for sidewall punctures of course. Thoughts...ideas... thx... Jim How reliable is this stuff anyway?
  7. Loren... You wrote this a about a year and half ago...how do you feel about the S03's today? Up here we have a bit more rain than you do, so stick in the rain is important. Any comments here? Were these N rated BTW...I'm just starting to shop now. I want low noise, good stick in wet and dry and at least 10K out of rears. Thx Loren... Jim
  8. Thats the culprit!...I have to remove #20 to access 21 with a right angle driver? Correct... I tell ya Loren, regardless of the many years I have had in school and all the cars I have worked on this car humbles me at times...I think you truly are the patron saint of Porsche owners!!
  9. Loren... Something I don't understand...is the fact that a sealant coating on the thread and head of the bolts of that much significance with the RMS problem(s)? Thx... Jim
  10. What's the trick in removing the air duct trim cover on the passenger's side in a 1999 C2? Thx... Jim
  11. I have a Porsche 'cotton' car cover with storage bag with Porsche logo(both a light blue green color--purchased new from Porsche). It was used less than a a half dozen times and has been stored in my garage since. It is in excellent condition. If anyone would like it...its yours. Just give me a FedX number to charge the shipping to and I'll send it off to you (only via FedX please). Please PM me and we'll work out the details. Thx... Jim
  12. Your reverse light switch is either not hooked up (as was said previously) or its inop/busted. Replacement is fairly quick and easy. Location as noted in Loren's pic. Switch is about 9.00 --- 99660610301...but check that p/n just to be sure... Jim
  13. Can you recommend a good internet supplier of Bosche MAF sensor? thx .... You can get the exact Bosche MAF sensor ffrom several auto supply outlets and on the internet for less than $300. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  14. Re question one. The central locking system locks the engine compartment. If the battery dies you cant access the engine compartment (or trunk) to make a jump. Its best to reroute the emergency release to the left rear quarter panel between the body and rippled heat shielding for the muffler. Place it in a location where it is accessible to you should an emergency arise. The trunk emergency release is located under the right headlamp. Headlamp must be removed to access. Though some claim to be able to access from the wheel well between lining and front fender sheet metal. Suggest you reroute release to behind the front tow hook plug. Its good to know in an emergency battery failure that you have access to the engine compartment and trunk areas for jump. Jim Jim
  15. When I first got my 99 996 the same thing happened as far as the whistling noise at 20-30-40 Take a look at your trunk hood. Make sure the alignment is pefect all the way around the two sides and front. Does one side of the trunk hood sit lower in the channel looking at it low and straight on from about liscense plate height? If so, adjust the rubber stops on the inside of the trunk hood until alignment is exactly equal and flush to the front bumper. I don't have the specs about what the spacing should be. Once I aligned the hood to fit equally on both sides the whistling noise stopped. Jim
  16. Sorry I didn't clarify the request further. I have heard that there is a source on the net that sells CD's of the shop manuals. I don't know if these are bootleg CD's or legit CD's but I do not think they are supplied by Porsch. Thx... Jim
  17. Does someone have the link where I can purchase a 996 manual on CD's...I recall someone saying they purchased them on line... Thx... Jim
  18. Well, thats sort of what I thought but the way the P/people talk its as though you'll murder the car... Thx...
  19. Are there any after market brands of coolant that meet or exceed the Porsche brand coolant for the 99 C2. I was told by Sunset that there are no commercially available A/M coolants that meet Porsche specs. When I asked the Service Writer what those specs were he didn't have a clue (not surprising). Its like 14.00 a Quart! Jim
  20. I think I noted the same thing when I first started using the Porsche battery maintainer. I hooked them up exactly opposite to what the printed instruction were. When I hooked everything up according to the instructions the service lite on the power unit went off after 5 or 6 hours. So... When you want to charge you need to plug the lighter end into the car's lighter first, then the power unit into the electrical source (outlet). When you want to stop the charge remove the power unit from the electrical source first then remove plug from the cigarette lighter second. Hope this helps... Jim
  21. Thx Henry... I figured that it would be about a $1000.00. The seal is obviously one thing and a misaligned engine is the major issue but like I said, so far so good. Thx guy... Jim It is not the RMS replacement, it is what causes the RMS leak. If it is just a leaky seal, the replacement is a snap and just some money. If it is a leaky seal because the engine is misaligned and working the seal loose, it will lead to engine replacement (or failure). Luckily, for most of us, it is just a leaky seal, and you could even drive with the leak for a while if you choose so. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  22. Just curious... What does an RMS replacement cost. No oil leaks as yet and approaching 27,000 on my 99 C2? Jim
