  1. Has anybody done this kit install and is it any good? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...AWNA%3AUS%3A112 The 3 Main Components of the HID System BULB : - The Xenon Gas and mercury Metal Halide Salts existing inside the light emitting tube causes the molybdenum electrodes on both sides to plasma discharge and create energy, which in turn produces light. In laymen terms…These suckers are Bright! IGNITER : - This is an electronic amplifier that receives electric current from the ballast and boosts voltage to ignite the Arc Light Source in all environments. It initializes plasma discharge within the source by delivering a high-volt pulse to the electrodes. BALLAST : - This is an electronic control unit used to initialize arc and supply a stabilized power supply to the bulb and igniter during normal arc conditions. PLUG-N-PLAY Step by Step - Highly Detailed Instructions included with every Kit! Installation is a Cinch! We even include pre-drilled, OEM, Headlight Backing Plates to make your job even easier! 2. I have a 1999 C2 coupe and I don't know if its me being over sensitive. I feel as though the transmission has free play in it when you lift off the throttle and get back on it. It doesn't bang but it feels a little sloppy and was wondering if anybody else has experienced this. There are no noises in the trans but I do notice that when I lift on the clutch to pull away from a light I can feel it catch with a little bump. I did have a new clutch put in 8000 miles ago and the car has 47K on it now. It shifts great and works fine except for this. Is this normal? Thanks, Mike
  3. They were a little slow. 2.5 weeks for some front end damage. Besides that they did an excellent job. Everything was perfect and I got my car backl spic and span. They also give you a 5 year warranty on the job and paint. I was very pleased. Let me know if you have any questions. Mike
  4. My 1999 996 is at Jim Ellis Collision Center as of right now and hopefully will get it back this week. I hope I can give you a good recommendation when I get it back. They talk the talk so I am hoping for good results.
  5. I had a 1975 also but I lived the 2.7 nightmare. My engine was worthless at about 65,000 miles. You must have gone through these issues at 208K. Nice looking ride. My last one was a 1983 911SC with 37000K on it but its life was ended by a drunk 17 year old who used the rear end of my car for his brakes. My car was older than then the kid who ended its career. Its good to see that the 996's will run long too!
  6. Now why are we not selling our cars there!! Thats big money for these cars.
  7. This is the highest mileage 996 I have ever seen 179K on a 1999 Any higher out there? http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=1...sp=y&cardist=35
  8. Yes that sounds like the one. It is a small metal block of some sort that holds the window tight. It was an easy fix for me. I just slid the block forward until it got tight and that was my rattle. Good Luck
  9. I have a 99 C2 myself and had a rattle in the same spot. It turned out to be a loose rear side window. I pulled back the rubber on the outside of the window at the bottom and found a small wedge that holds the window tight was loose. All I did was to slide the wedge towards the front of the car and it got tight against the window and eliminated the rattle. just get a flat butter knife to peel the rubber back a little and then you can grab it with your fingers and look at the entire of the window bottom for the wedge. If the wedge is easy to move it is too loose. Good Luck
  10. I have GHL's on my 1999 996 and love them! Less expensive than Fabspeed and very good quality. Let me know if you want to hear them. In Duluth, GA
  11. For that vintage which I think was some of the best I would stick with the 1987-1989 cars. I think it was either the 87 or 88 that had the G50 Transmission which was a easier shifting trans that the 915 trans. 1984 and newer you get the pressure fed tensioners which you want to have and if you buy a SC car the pressure fed tensioners were an update which most of them have now. The 3.2 Carrera were great engines and so were the 3.0 SC engines. The SC's had the CIS injection that was a pain in the *** to deal with and keep running right unless you know what to do with them. Also a pain to pass emissions on those cars. You may be able to get a 90-91 cheaper though because they do not seem as desirable as the later Carreras. My 2 cents!
  12. I love the feeling of fuel running down your arm and into your armpit. Only a real car guy knows that feeling!!!!
  13. Hi, I have changed my filter just recently and what you need to do is drop the bolts that hold the coolant pipe brackets just under the filter and the next one towards the front of the car. This allows you to spread the coolant pipes away from each other and drop the filter. Just slide the filter towards the back of the car once you get these disconnected and it will come out with a little wiggling. Remember to lossen the clamp around the filter to release it from the bracket. I did not remove the rear cover under the car. Just the center cover is all I removed. Should take about 15-20 minutes. Good Luck!
  14. Do you have pics of your wheels and are they 18"? You can post them or email to me at: mikesako@bellsouth.net
  15. Sounds like the votes are in on the Fabspeed tips. I was fine with my old tips 'until you hear everybody talking about bigger tips and filling in the cut-outs on the bumper. Ignorance is bliss and inexpensive when it comes to 911's.
  16. Sorry I thougt I had posted the pic. I have it posted now and I could make it bigger if need be to see the wheels. Thanks,
  17. I got my car about 3 weeks ago and the Porsche dealer that inspected my car said these were porsche factory wheels but I have yet to see them on any other cars. My question is are they factory wheels or aftermarket? They are 18" and the centers are colored matched to the car. My car is a 1999 C2
  18. Does anyone know of any good sources of aftermarket exhaust tips for the 996. I know of Fabspeed, GHL, and B&B. Are there any others and out of these suppliers which ones are considered good. I like the 4.5" of Fabspeed and the large size is what I am looking for.
  19. Thanks for the input on the GHL. At the price it sounds like a deal to me.
  20. I was thinking of the GHL exhaust for my 996. I had this exhaust in my 83 SC and loved the sound. What are the general opinions of this system as I find them to be the least expensive of all the systems. They say they have the regular and loud version of this system and was wondering which way to go. GHL said their loud system does have some resonation. MIke
