  1. Thank you for all the information. I have had the glovebox out before to install an iPod interface so I am not too worried about that - but I ma guessing that this will entail a lot of swearing at the very least. My service guy is very good about only charging for actual labor - but the factory repair manual calls for 8 hours so I thought I'd do it myself over a weekend. And if I am digging all the way in to the air box / flap / controller thing it might be worth replacing all the servos but I checked and they are rather expensive. Maybe I'll live with it for a while and save the effort and money - but we are only just starting summer here... Thanks, John
  2. Thank you - that helps. Any chance there is a picture of where that first picture's equipment is located or how to access it? Thanks.
  3. Hello, I have a 2008 Cayenne S and the centre vent has stopped letting any air through (it worked last summer). I have searched the forum and found many references to the control servos failing and that they are a pain to get to - but no pictures. Does anyone have any photos or an exploded parts diagram showing where these servos are? Or how to get at them? I have read that there are twelve servos associated with the A/C airflow. Thanks, John
  4. Excellent tutorial. Does anyone have the part number list for the various bits and pieces shown (bumper, grills, side/signal lights, blanking panels, etc?) Or maybe a parts diagram I can get them from? I have found the list for the 955 but not the 957. The 957 seems to require less parts than the 955 judging from your instructions. My CS has the headlight washers and park distance sensors so that should be plug and play. The GTS/Turbo front bumper does look much better. John
  5. I have this exact same issue. 2008 Cayenne S Tip. The vehicle was just at the dealer last week for a full inspection and no fault codes were reported. This issue just started yesterday. The transmission seems to function properly: i can shift manually, and Sport mode and regular mode seem to work properly, but it never indicates what gear it is in, Just the 'D' in an orange square (just like the picture above). The engine starts right up (even though it is -20 here now) so I'd be surprised if the battery was weak. Any other thoughts? thanks, John
  6. 2006 997 Carrera C2 I am looking for the part number(s) for the upper spring seat for the rear springs. My car had been modified with some very stiff coil-over suspension and i am changing it for a more street-friendly setup. I have the new shocks and springs but the kit assumes you have the original parts - I do not. (The aftermarket coil-overs use a different part). The top of the rear spring is supposed to sit in a part that compensates for the fact that the spring is not flat at the top. Please see the enclosed picture. I am not sure if it needs one part or two. I have the rest of the parts other than the part shown in yellow in the picture. I want to make sure I order the correct pieces. Thanks, John
  7. I got mine from Eric at Bumperplugs (online). He is very good to deal with and knows the all the answers you could ever come up with for the Dension. He might even know where to get it installed near you.
  8. I am about to do some suspension work on my 2006 C2 non-PASM (installing coil-overs) and am looking for the required torque values for the associated assemblies so I can re-assemble evrything properly. Does anyone have a copy of a document with these values? Or know where I can find the information? Thanks, John
  9. I think even the non-Bose PCM uses an external amp - it's just not a Bose amp. I'm sure I read that somewhere. It is still going to be a bit of work / wiring to make it functional. Bose PCM head unit: 997-642-143-xx non-Bose head unit: 997-642-141-xx
  10. So you are saying the quad tips HELP at the track? Hmmm, I gotta get me some of them. (Sorry, could not resist...) :P
  11. From what I have read the new 2009 997.2 non-S tips fit directly on the 997.1 S exhaust. Even with factory pricing they may be the cheapest solution to your 'issue'.
  12. A mostly copy of my response from the other forum: If you are looking for a bolt-on front brake upgrade for the 997 non-S you can use the front set from a 993 Turbo - this is a common upgrade for the 997non-S. Suncoast even sells it as a kit for the 997 non-S with SS brake lines and everything else you need. You don't have to replace any suspension parts or master cylinder or bias settings for this upgrade. And it is half the cost of the Brembo front brake kit for the non-S. It increases the swept area to 84.5cm-sq (on 325mm rotor) from 63.5cm-sq stock (318mm rotor). (Note: stock S front brakes sweep 78.5cm-sq/330mm rotor, and the PCCBs squeeze on a massive 112 swept cm-sq per side... on a 350mm rotor). The smaller the swept area - the more the pads heat up - the more the brake fluid heats up. Larger diameter rotors give more brake leverage - they need less pressure for the same braking. Less pressure - less heat - etc - etc. But ask youself why you are doing it. Are you noticing a lot of fade on track days? Yes, the 997S brakes are bigger and should have less fade at the extreme, but the 997non-S brakes are not known to be poor either. They are bigger than the stock 996 Carrera brakes which are not considered to be POS equipment. Have fun.
  13. Easiest way: become a 'contributing member' of this site for ~$20 US (totally worth it) and you can then download your manual in PDF. From what i read on page 89: using the little lever on the left of the steering wheel: push lever forward > select 'set' > and the second or third selection down is 'speedometer: km/mls - so select this one and change it. I believe you have to change every readout (temp, fuel consumption, etc) individually on the 996 - but I could be wrong. On my 997 it is a setting in the PCM and it changes everything at once. Cheers and enjoy your great car! John
  14. The UMI cannot be connected to the 997.1 (non-touchscreen) PCM. A few people have done some preliminary investigation into fitting the new PCM (997.2 style) into the 2005 to 2008 911 but the cost seems very high ($3K plus) but I have not read of anyone actually doing it. There are some after-market devices that interface with the fiber-optic MOST data ring that allow you to connect a USB based music collection and/or an iPod to the existing 997.1 PCM (also optional bluetooth for phone functions as well). These are in the $500 to $1000 range depending on make and options. I have one from Dension in my 2006 that I use for my iPod. I like it: much better audio than an FM transmitter based adaptor and the songs are shown on the PCM display. It has a USB input that functions the same way. The interface is a bit clumsy but is fine once I got used to it. John
