  1. Porsche of course recommends the coolant sold by their parts department in 1 liter containers for $. Porsche does not make chemical products. There is nothing special about long life coolant for an aluminum block motor, like a 928. When I first contacted ChevrornTexaco US which owns 50% of the Euro company that makes the 'Porsche' coolant they told me to buy it from Porsche. Then US contacted Europe and that is the response you see. This is a pic of what I saw during a tech session. Jeff

Lots of info here and I'm not sure what is the question, so here it goes. :o When I think Boxster there is the old style cluster and the new style that started in 2001, with the digital speed display on the left rather than in the middle. I used to call this the turbo style cluster since it also started in 2001 on the turbo - which is not correct since the turbo always had the dot matrix display but not the Boxster or 996. The new style cluster started in 2002 for the 996. As Dale said the new style has 32 pins per connector. The old style has 26. The connector to the back of the cluster on a new style is larger and there is no way to swap old/new style clusters. The 996/Boxster dot matrix trip computer display only happens if you have a cluster with the 659 option. That option happened in 2002 on the Boxster, and I think the same year of the 996. I have done several 2002 and 2003 Boxster trip computer retrofits and you end up with a display that is like the 2001 Boxster with the 659 option, which means no dot matrix. Per Peter if you put in a new style 996 or Boxster cluster with the 659 option in a 2002 Boxster without the 659 option you will get the dot matrix display as the software is in the cluster - not the car. With a 996 cluster then you have to deal with the 2 extra gauges and the surround. Peter did not think a turbo cluster would work on a 2002 Boxster. But there is one sure way to find out - plug it in. Jeff
  3. We filmed the major points of the install on a 2000 Boxster and it is 42 minutes. The control unit that comes in the kit has just 3 wires to hook up, ground, power, and high beam. Then you route the wiring harness from the control unit to each head light. I hate electrical stuff but the install is easy if you have watched it once being done. For those with a 2002 and newer I do not know why you cannot order the headlight, control unit, and wiring harness to make a 'kit' like there is for the older cars. I have asked Peter. Jeff
  4. It is 000 721 961 90 and cost a few dollars. The problem is, the shift cable adjustment tool will not fit on a B&M shift lever as the shaft is too fat and sits too high. What you can do is to put the oem shift back in with the B&M bushings. Then use the tool to mark the location of the cables. Then put the B&M shift lever back in. Jeff
  5. I have not seen a retrofit kit for a 2002 up 996 with the turbo style headlights, but I'm a Boxster guy so I do not have the latest 996 stuff. I did see a "kit" on ebay but it was just a collection of the parts and not an official kit. Of course there is a kit for 1999-2001 with the old style headlights. Loren and I have put them in and it is easy if you have basic mechancial skills. Jeff
  6. There are 11 pages of part numbers just for the cluster and there may be more than one part number for a 2002 S, tip, with OBC. However. the part number you gave is for an S, with tip, but not for OBC. On the parts list it would have 659 (the trip computer option code) next to the part number. But it does not. Jeff
  7. You remove the 3 plastic plugs. Then stick in a long allen wrench - I think it was 5mm - and give it about 3 turns. Then you pull it up and out - takes some effort as there are plastic things that hold it down. This is as far as we went to run wires along the sill - no reason to disconnect the bowden cables. Can't be too hard to figure out how to disconnect the trunk cables. Jeff
  8. Have you done a compression test? Also, can you post a picture of the oil separator since it gets confused. There are 2 air/oil separators in the sump. There is also an external part which is part of the crankcase ventilation system commonly called an oil separator. Jeff

If you have a dealer swap your wheel or you break a part doing it yourself it will cost you more than the set of DVDs. At this point there are no plans to sell an individual DVD.   11. We are working on a discount for RennTech members. In the past people only wanted the set of 3 DVDs, but I can understand someone may only want 1 DVD, such the B&M DVD. So we have to think about that. A blank DVD-R is much more expensive compared to a CD. Stay tuned..... 9X6 Werks DVDs
  12. We cover on the video how to mark everything so that when you put a wheel back on it is straight the first time. A near little trick the ex shop foreman at my local dealer showed me. Also, if the air bag is permitted to hang from the harness you will break the plastic pins on the air bag spiral spring due to the weight of the bag. The battery disconnect will not work on an air bag light. Dealer has to turn it off with the PST2.

  14. Yes, have the right tools and do the job right. I have removed/replaced/swaped about 35 steering wheels over the years. Never a problem, but it helps to have knowledge. The swap is 11 minutes on the DVD. I must be getting slow. This is a picture of the one we did 4 days ago.
  15. Was told $881.05 for 000 044 900 72. Shop around. Poursha and I have been trading emails so we can get a parts list for the new CDC-4 "goofy" fiber optic MOST system that started in MY03. Hope this will be a RennTech first. Some pics from Bryan. Jeff

  17. Another person who needs the DVD. We filmed the 3/4 spoke steering wheel swap on 2 cars, and one of the swaps is on the trip computer DVD. You mark the position of the old wheel in relationship to the shaft. You also mark the new wheel so that when you put it on the shaft it will be straight. The screws take effort because the have blue loctite. If your 3 spoke does not have the screws then you need to buy them, as they are different then the 4 spoke screws. When we put the air bag on we do not use loctite - but it would not hurt. If you follow the shop manual it says not to reuse screws, but we do. New screw have loctite on them. If you want to torque them it is 7.5 foot pounds. The 24mm nut on the shaft does not have loctite - it has a spring washer. Torque is about 35 foot pounds. After the battery is hooked up you run the widows all the way up and down several times to reset them. Jeff
  18. It is the low beam xeon that rotates up to the high beam halogen if you have installed the looms and the control unit. They are shown in this picture.

  21. I was at the parts department Saturday trying to figure out the part numbers for the fiber optic cables for a 2003 Boxster cd changer. There are 5 fiber optic cables listed. The parts guy was not sure. Someone with a 996 had ordered the CDC-4 and ordered a few cables - hoping one of them would be correct. 996 622 706 00 is listed for the M692 option (cd changer). But there are other cables for the same option depending on what sound system you have - such as Bose.
  22. Start saving up for a DVD player. We did a DVD of 4 B&M shift installs. 2 on Boxsters and 2 on 996s. Loren is even on the video. A guy who looked at the DVD said he was then able to do the B&M shift install in less than 45 minutes.
  23. We could put the instructions on stone tablets, as the only DVD player I have is my notebook I got a few months ago. If you are ever in the San Jose area we will put it in for you. I suggest doing it with the stalk rather than the switch as it will then be just like the factory option.
  24. We made the DVDs for the mechanically challenged. With a few exceptions we filmed the owners working on their own cars. Sounds like you need the trip computer one. 3 installs, 1 of which is with the switch. If you have not even removed the oval and broke the switch..... ;) Take less than an hour to do a trip computer, but then I've done about 30 of them. When the battery has been disconnected you need to reset the windows. Instruction are in the manual. I simply run the windows all the way up and down a few times.
  25. The part number for the 4 stalk switch assembly with gloss buttons has been discontinued. Now you can only buy the one with the matt finish 996 613 919 EWC. This is ok as you put your shiny finish buttons on the new switch, but you will not have a gloss button for the trip computer. But you can buy just the gloss finish trip computer button 996 613 503 01 A01. The splicing of the 9 and 10 wires is correct for a 1999. For a 2002 up you do not splice wires, just use five of the 9 wires. The oval trim piece has to come out before you can remove the switch. In Sandy's first picture you can see the 2 metal clips. The one on the left looks yellow in the picture. The other (black) clip is right next to the torx screw. In the second picture of the oval you can see one of the plastic prongs that go into the (yellow) clips. The oval is a push fit into the clips. The oval is usually a tight fit due to the thickness of the leather. I have a plastic wedge tool for removing trim. It will take some effort to get it out, and be careful not to scratch anything. We made a DVD of 4 trip computer retrofits on Boxsters. A Boxster does not have the oval trim. Jeff
