  1. The connectors are not available from Porsche. If you use the later engine harness you only need the 9 pin and 40 pin connector from the chassis side. It isn't worth the time and money to modify an early 996 harness to work. I can provide a 3.6L engine harness and the other two connectors if you need them. -Todd
  2. Just replace the line, list is like $96, so from Sunset it would be between $50-75. Todd
  3. The bottom black line in your picture is the vacuum line from the motor to the brake booster. The other two black lines above it are the PS pressure and return lines. The brake lines are there as well but they are the smaller diameter lines, at the bottom of the picture that are not painted black. Todd
  4. You may want to read this before dropping the $$ on a plenum http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126576 -Todd
  5. Sounds like you are being scammed. If they are using the factory PST or PIWIS to reprogram the DME, either it is reprogrammed or not, you can't put the 996 maps in without changing the other parameters. Easiest way to check is to open the engine compartment and rev the engine up. You should see the vacuum actuator on the second plenum cycle. If it doesn't you have a 986 program in the DME. I've heard rumours that the early DME can't be reprogrammed but I have never personally tried to do it. I have several later 5.2.2 DME's that if you provide me the programming codes I could program to match your car for a reasonable cost. Based upon that dyno, I am willing to bet you are running a 986 program in the DME. I doubt your car has a 996 sport clutch as well since the 996 clutch and PP won't work with the 986 transmission. -Todd
  6. As Loren states all the information is there if you look for it. The 3.6 swap into a 2002 car is very simple. 1) no you have a 7.8 DME you just reprogram it 2) you can't use the 996 headers 3) yes, all 996 engines need to be lowered regardless of displacement 4) you have egas -Todd
  7. You don't state the year of your car, but if it is a 3.6 you have 4 programs to choose from (OBDII, ROW (Euro2), EOBD (Euro3) and Japan and the X51 and tiptronic variants of these). If you run the Euro 2 (ROW) program it uses only the precat sensors for fuel mixture. Post cat sensors are not used as these measure cat. efficiency. The Euro3 program is similar to the US OBDII program in that it uses all 4 sensors. I have never seen a CEL on a ROW program as the threshold on the ROW program is much higher than the Euro3 or OBD programs (ie the fault has to be present for a much longer time). I don't believe the maps are any different for US and ROW as all the technical data I have is stated for 98 RON/88 MON for all cars worldwide. This is equivalent to 93 octane here in the US and Canada. Todd
  8. You are a little confused, I did the swap not IA. Unlike the swap done by FVD on Dave's car, all my systems work including the cruise control, which last time I heard FVD still hadn't figured out how to get Dave's to work. Todd I know you did the work but I thought iA did the tunning. BTW is this the same Todd from the KCWS? No tuning necessary, the car runs a stock 996 program. No I'm not the Todd from KCWS
  9. You are a little confused, I did the swap not IA. Unlike the swap done by FVD on Dave's car, all my systems work including the cruise control, which last time I heard FVD still hadn't figured out how to get Dave's to work. Todd
  10. You might want to check the date on the original post, the X51 has been in my car for 6 months. I just finished putting my previous non-X51 3.6 in a '98 car that is going up for sale soon. My car is lowered on H&R springs with new Bilstein Sports, H&R sways front and rear, Ruf wheels 18x8.5 and 18x10 and Tarrett rear toe arms to correct for the lowering. Todd
  11. Basic mechanical how to can be found here: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=13527 I probably should update it, as I am doing things a bit differently now. The difficulty in the 3.6 and 3.8 engines into the earlier cars is not in the mechanical aspect as they are the same as the 3.4, it is the electronics. Todd
  12. Don't get the idea, just because I'm not doing 0-60 runs that the car is babied. I'm simply not going to rev it to 3k and slip the clutch to avoid wheelspin (no nanny controls like TC) just to figure out how fast it goes from a dead stop to 60. Trust me, it is fast enough. I don't care what 0-60 is but I can tell you from a rolling start it flies by 60 in no time. Todd  This probably rates as the most intelligent comment I've ever read in any online car forum! Todd, I've been extremely impressed with your mechanical knowledge and ability, and here's another side of you to have high regard for  +1 on that! :clapping:
  13. No idea. I value my clutch, tires and trans more than I do having a 0-60 time to brag about online. ;)
  14. In order to code the cluster follow the following procedure. Connect the PST2 or PIWIS tester and select model 996 and DME The only option will be to reprogram the DME Reprogram the DME with the old and new immob. and DME codes being the same as current After programming enter the vehicle data tab recode model type to 911 C2 cab (911310 for North Am, 911311 for ROW) back up to original screen and do a complete control module search enter the instrument cluster tab, change any coding you would like (cruise, obc etc) exit back to the original screen enter 986 model and dme reprogram to 986 program using current codes as above. One caveat is that I have been told that total dme reprogramming can only be done 3 times before the dme locks out. Don't know if it is true, I have remapped my dme several times between X51 ROW and OBD specs much greater than 3 times but that is different than complete reprogramming to another model type. Todd
  15. Lowflyer, Obviously your techs don't know what they are doing. Anne, PM sent. Todd
  16. Yes, your cluster is coded for a C4, different fuel tank thus error in the gauge. You will need to recode the cluster and probably recalibrate the gauge. Todd
  17. Anne, Yes, that is really the only way to code a 996 cluster in a Boxster. You can just remap your DME as a 996, change the order type to C2 cab in the DME vehicle data section, read out all control units, change any additional coding in the cluster that you want, then remap the dme back to 986. As you state the only other way is to swap the cluster into another car. Remapping the DME is a much easier process if you find someone with a PST who is willing to do it for you. Todd
  18. The 3.6 swap in your car is pretty simple. One complication may be if you have PSM but if you contact Scott at Softronic he will be able to help you out with this if you are going to have him do the ECU programming. You don't need the 996 cluster, but it looks a lot better. You will need a new exhaust/headers, the spacers are easy to fabricate on your own. You may want to use 993/964 engine mounts at the trans end to lower the rear to compensate for lowering the front. You might want to think about a clutch/pp to handle the extra torque. I would buy a motor from Porsche (sunset) the price differential isn't that great over what you will pay a wrecking yard for a used motor with an unknown history. Good luck, it will be well worth it in the end. Todd
  19. The glowing exhaust was likely from dumping raw fuel and/or gas into the exhaust and it igniting when it hit the hot metal. The damage to the spark plug is likely due to hydrolock. You will never screw in the spark plug far enough that it contacts the piston if it is the correct plug for the car. With the evidence of damage to the plug, it is likely that you bent the rod and/or valves on at least that cylinder. Do a leakdown test on all the cylinders and that should provide significant insight into the damage. Stop trying to run the motor. You will probably have to pull the heads to really know what is going on with any certainty. You might be lucky and only have bent the valves on the #2 cylinder. Todd
  20. I'm sure they do. The mufflers are different in their configuration, but I think the piping sizes are the same ID for the system. Todd
  21. Actually Loren I am pretty sure the ID on the piping is the same on the 3.6 and 3.4. Even the 997 3.8X51 uses the same 55mm ID piping. The size of the header ports and primaries changed but I don't think the exhaust piping did. I'm sure you will correct me if I am wrong :) Todd
  22. Hey Todd, I'll check into it and let you know what I find out. I see you're from Lenexa, I used to live in Overland Park. Do you use Imagine Auto locally? I know the fellows at IA but I don't use them as I do all my own work. Todd
  23. I have a set from a '99 engine I purchased, not sure if they will mate up to the mufflers on an '02 or not. Todd
