  1. I just installed the Hoen Xenonmatch H11 (additional high beam with bi-xenon headlights) bulbs, and they are a great match with the xenons. Even though the headlights are bi-xenons (meaning both low and high beams are xenon), an additional bulb illuminates when you turn the high beams on, and the stock bulb is yellow and doesn't match the xenon light. These are a great match: http://www.hoen-usa.com/orderpage.htm
  2. Why the PIAA bulbs are more expensive than the Philips is a good question. It could be because PIAA says that the bulbs provide 110watts worth of light from only 55watts: http://www.piaa.com/Bulbs/Bulbs-H7.html This site has the Philips Bluevision H7 bulbs for $20.60 each: http://www.autolamps-online.com/products/orderform.htm
  3. The Philips D2S bulb is low beam for xenon equipped cars (and high beam, since it is bi-xenon). H7 bulb is for low beam on non-xenon equipped cars (at least for '04 cars). I have bi-xenons and installed PIAA H3 Xtreme white bulbs (PIA15255--Twin Pack--4,150K) for my fog lights and they match very well: http://store.yahoo.com/rodi/xxxpiah3.html I also ordered Hoen H11 Xenonmatch bulbs for the additional high beams--haven't received them yet, so can't say how good a match they are, but anything is probably better than the very yellow stock ones. http://www.hoen-usa.com/orderpage.htm
  4. You can download them here: http://www.suncoastporsche.com/manuals/index.html
  5. A good detailing or body shop should be able to color sand and buff it out, assuming it didn't go too deep. It's amazing what they can fix.
  6. PSE. I've had it on my last 2 Carreras, and love it. Get only mufflers installed (loud all the time). On the PDE website below, they have sound clips of standard exhaust and PSE. Click on interactive specs, then click on engine, and there are 2 audio clips at the bottom. http://www.porschedriving.com/the_cars.asp#
  7. Nice find. I saw they also have color matched bulbs for the additional high beam bulb used with the xenons. The stock ones are very yellow. I just ordered a pair.
  8. I got the Philips Blue Vision bulbs, and they're less yellow than the stock parking bulbs, but not a perfect match for the xenons: http://www.powerbulbs.com/products/product...d=pbvs&type=H6W
  9. Here's one that taps into the overhead light for power. If you're going to install the concealed display (which I strongly recommend), this really doesn't buy you anything (and you have to do a lot of cutting and splicing), since you still need to run the wire from the main unit to the concealed display. http://www.geocities.com/porschecarrera996...v3_document.htm
  10. Have it hardwired. Do a search--there are several people that have done DIY V1 install sites. Here's one: http://www.industryfigure.com/berkeley/Por...s/valentine.htm I had mine hardwired at a stereo install shop--they charged $50, which was too good to pass up. Here's a few pix: Main unit installed to right of rear view mirror, using sun visor clip wedged between headliner support and roof: Concealed display on steering wheel housing:
  11. I went through the same drill. You're supposed to get one confirmation wipe when you change the sensitivity, and also when you first turn the wipers on in rain sensor mode (position 3). Mine didn't do that, and the sensitivity adjustment knob wasn't doing anything. They ended up replacing the knob on the dash with the one that comes with the factory self dimming option--it has a different resistance range. The sensitivity adjustment now works, although it's not nearly as sensitive as ones I've had in other cars (including my last Carrera). They confirmed with the Porsche tech line that the confirmation wipe feature isn't part of the retrofit kit--despite what the installation TSB says (thanks, Loren!). Not perfect, but fortunately it only rains for a few months out of the year here! To answer Loren's question on the relay, the retrofit rain sensor plugs into the retrofit kit relay (the original relay has no place to plug it in).
  12. Check out this site--lots of info (you need to register/login to get most of it): http://www2.us.porsche.com/Precision911/pcna.asp PCM is standard, nav is optional.
  13. I'm confused as well. The order guide lists the following standard on the Carrera: PSM Active brake differential (ABD) Traction control (ASR)
  14. The one piece factory unit is not available as a retrofit. I had the self dimming mirrors (interior and drivers side are separate items) and rain sensor installed in my car. If you're going to have the mirrors done, it's not very much more labor to have the rain sensor installed. You also need a new harness for the drivers side mirror.
  15. I got it at Forest Lane Porsche in Dallas in 1989. At the time they were something like the 2nd or 3rd largest dealer in the US. They just finished building a beautiful showroom--black granite floors, etc. Then they went bankrupt and were bought out by Park Place Porsche.
  16. Regarding pronunciation, you could get one of these shirts: Available here: http://porsche.parkplacestores.com/789.html I remember when I bought my first Porsche years ago, my dad said "nice looking Porsh" and so I got him a coffee mug that the dealer sold that said "POR-SHA is a 2 syllable word."
  17. I had a '99 Carrera and my recollection is that there were a few options that had to be set by the dealer, such as the outside temp appearing in the tach, auto door locking, and--I believe--the passenger mirror tilt function was one as well. I sold that car over 4 years ago, so my memory may not be correct, but it's worth a try asking the dealer, since it's a useful thing to have. Setting this feature in my '04 Carrera is different than it was in my '02 Carrera--I guess they can't make up their minds!
  18. Inside the wheel well there's a plug next to the side of the lense, which you remove and then insert a screwdriver, to compress the spring holding the side marker in place, while you pull the side closest to the wheel well toward you. Do the same thing as you reinstall it.
  19. If you have access to an overhead lift, it could be a DIY. On my Carrera, they needed to remove a few of the plastic panels under the car to access the area, including a large one that spanned the width of the car, and doing this on jack stands doesn't seem viable. Took under an hour. See pix here: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1657&hl=
  20. I had the B&M under car short shift kit installed a while back and like it a lot. I got it from Brandywine for $175. I got it instead of the in car kit because I was concerned that the in car kit would increase the shifting effort too much and be notchy, based on posts I'd seen on various boards. The under car kit shift throw reduction is adjustable (10%, 20% or 30%--I went with 30%). The shift feel is tighter than stock but in no way notchy.
  21. Here you go: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=491
  22. Can't argue with that logic...!!! :clapping:
  23. With the CDR23, you press the sound button a few times until you get to the selection point. On my '04 it's called AP (audio pilot--actually changes volume based on interior sound level, not speed) and you turn the right knob to select on or off. I believe on the '03s it's the same procedure for GAL.
