  1. Can you be more specific about not running as well? I know my 2000s when the car is cold regardless of the temp outside does not run as good for intance it does not shift as smoothly and is a little jerky, but once it warms up it runs well  . I do notice it running a little stronger when the temp outside is anywhere between 40 to 60 degrees maybe because of the colder air for the intake.
  2. that is a very good friend indeed. This problem is commom with the Porsches. Having the motor replaced would be a positive. One thing to keep in mind is your friend is probably saving money by having the repair done under warranty vs paying for the repairs. This is a win win for both, he saves money and you get a brand new motor.
  3. I have the same rattles anybody know what it is? I too thougt it may be a heat shield of some sort because that is what it sounds like. I was even hoping it was the exhaust (so I can get an aftermarket : ) any ideas what it is???
  4. I have been thinking about doing this proceedure and was worried about the hot soldering iron touching the sides and melting the wrong piece. Has anyone used a dremmel tool for this process? I wonder if that would be safer and easier?
  5. I think you are talking about two totally different subjects. Metalic paint vs non metalic and single stage vs 2 stage paint. I believe what Rod was speaking about is single stage vs 2 stage meaning base plus clear. All car makers now use 2 stage or multistage paint. This is due to the stronger finish and lasting shine. As tool pants stated they use a base plus clear. If someone is offering to paint your 2003 guards red a single stage paint don't do it! That is the easiest and cheapest way to do it. Also keep in mind a with a darker color, they may be able to match the shade ,but if they go single stage it may not match the depth of the color.
  6. Usually mufflers does not wear down, they either get damaged or more commonly develope rust and cause it to leak. Unless you have these leaks or want to upgrade for sound or performance you will not need to replace them.
  7. I have a 2000 BoxsterS and I believe my driver side rear wheel bearing has gone bad. Does anyone know how to replace the bearing? Is it a press fit bearing? :( Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
  8. common problem is a rear main seal leak? your best bet is to bring it in
  9. I do notice my shifter moving slightly up and down during hard accel/decelleration which is normal. As far as it popping out of gear is most definately not normal. You may want to check about servicing the transmission or linkage adjustment. I have heard of people having a harder time going from 1st to second gear when a short shift kit (mainly oe option) when the engine is cold but once the car hits normal operating temperature it shifts normal. Either way your car should should never pop out of gear.
  10. Not Common at all, I frequently do what you described and no such smell arise.
  11. Thanks Simon, I opened them up and it looks like both linkage were not preperly seated. After I popped them back in place the lights now adjust evenly. Is there a way to hook up the self leveling feature? Are there additional parts that is needed if so can they be purchased?
  12. I just installed a new litronics retrofit kit on my 2000 Boxster S :clapping: . My question is when you hit the high beam does both the left and right side go up an equal amount? When I first did the install, I noticed the actual light or lense inside was loose, upon removal of rear cover I noticed the actuator that moves the unit up/down linkage was not fully seated. After giving it a carefull push the ball socket linkage popped back in and the problem was solved. I re installed and tested the high beam. This is when I noticed the unit (pasenger side U.S. model) did not go up and down as much as the driver side. Is that normal? I'm also not sure if the adjustments for both units are identical, could that be the root of the problem? Thanks for any advice
  13. Interesting question, based on the limited information you provided it appears the problem lies between the front seat and the steering wheel. You mentioned your Boxster left the curve at about 130 to 140kph. That is about 80 to 90 miles per hour. How sharp was the curve? Unless you are in a formula one car and you are J Montoya, it does not matter what kind of tires you have, you will loose control. Be thankfull the damages appear to be cosmetic, they can be easily repaired. Find a cheap reputable shop get it fixed at a discount and take the money you saved and take driving lessons. We all can use professional instruction, I remember several years ago when I took a driving class and I had my 97 BMW 328i that was mildly modified(M package) on the track. I was playing cat and mouse with my instructor in his 1980's P.O.S. all stock RX7 with the stock 14inch all season radials and he was able to easily pass me. That was all driver skill...With that in mind take some classes it will help you get trust back in your car (or yourself)
  14. Out of curiosity what did the Vipers dyno at?
  15. I was wondering if anyone knows if the 2005 Carrera (997) 18 inch wheels will fit a 2000 Boxster S? I do not have the part numbers yet, but my friend is selling me his never used stock 18 inch rims and tires from his new 997 (non S) model. I think they are 18x8 and 18x10 and my car is lowered. Will I need spacers or any rubbing problems
  16. I really think you should not rule out an alignment. I have had several cars that the tire wear did not show any mis alignment, but when put on the machine was severly off. An alignment severly affects high speed handling. Another thing to check that no one mentioned is your wing, does it raise up at the proper speeds or is your fuse blown causing the wing not to go up therefore lacking downforce. While your at it check your aerodynamics, maybe an airdam is loose or damaged? just a thought good luck. By the way I drive my car at speeds in excess of 120 to 130 mph and it is very stable (even with the top down!) compared to my 2004 MBZe500 it feels glued down!
