    Found the answer. The hose is the oil separator line. It runs coolant. The plastic piece that connects the two parts is just to mount the hose in a secure position away from the heat of the engine and out of the way of the serpentine belt. Part number 996.106.226.52 $6. It comes with worm gear clamps.

    I am replacing part 996.106.226.51. It is the connector for the hoses marked with red dots in the below picture. The hoses are for the oil separator. This is filled with what looks like coolant. During the repair, it probably lost 4 ounces of coolant. Question- will this coolant be topped off from the general coolant system or do I need to refill it from another source?     Not sure it is a coolant hose. Also, the hose clamps look crimped not spring.

    Note Pic is from water coolant repair DIY from RennTech per Loren with my photo shop red markings- hope that is ok to use pic. If not I will remove.) Need to replace the coolant hose marked by the red dots. I cannot find a 996 engine diagram on Pelikan parts to order, as 996s are not covered. Questions: 1. Can I substitute regular coolant hose from NAPA. 2. It also appears the hose clamps are crimped and not meant to be removed. Can these be cut off and replaced with a worm screw? 3. Finally- the hose mid way ( at red arrow) is held to the engine by a plastic insert. Does this insert perfrom any functional flow restriction, or only serve to secure it away from engine heat?     Looked more closely. The fit is not perfect, but to be honest, I did not notice until you pointed it out. The added piece rises and is away from the adjacent console about 1mm at most.

    Hi Bruce, I put in the trim panel today. Looked ok except as you state the color is off. I was going to consider getting some spray paint to match- mine is gray. Should be easy to match more closely. As far as fit, I will have to look closer. I assume you faced it the correct direction as the gap would be worse the other direction.

    The head unit on an '03 with MOST is likely the CDR-23. There is no aux input. I recently installed the Dension Gateway 500 unit with an iPod and it works great (03 986S). The Dension unit taps into the fiber optic loop and mimics the function of a cd changer. It's not perfect, as the CDR-23 doesn't display anything but "TRACK 1" so you can't just stuff the iPod in the glove box and forget about it. I mounted it next to the dash. It's pricey (about $500), but the alternative was a complete replacement of the head unit, amp, and probably speakers... - Art You are correct Art.     I must be missing something, but is the one solution to help adding an aux connector to the OEM unit? I have a 2001 with a CDR 220. The aux connector was a 30min addition fix from Becker for less $50. What is the unit in your P-car?
