  1. Had left side seal replaced in front differential. Still leaked. Took it back to the shop and they found that there is play in the axle. They figure that there is a bad bearing inside. Two questions. Will the front axle assembly from a 997 work in a 996 car I have a 2002 c4s there is one from a 2006 c4s on ebay. Or are there instructions for a rebuild available somewhere?
  2. It seems like at least one of the front wheels would have spun or pulled a little bit. I read somewhere that it may not engage unless the car is at speed. Is that true?
  3. Saw my wife spin out on the highway today in our C4S. It was very icy. Nobody was hurt. I tried to drive it out. The front wheels did nothing. I turned the PSM on and off, did not change anything. When she came home I had her try to pull up the driveway. We have a slight incline with plenty of snow. Front wheels did nothing. The car has Blizzaks. I looked on you tube and saw Carrera 4 convertible hanging off the road with the left front wheel in the air. When he gassed it the left front started to spin. I have tried to find out how the system works. I have not seen anything defini
  4. For that kind of money I would go buy a turbo with some miles and be glad to have the power and engine with a history of being reliable.
  5. I replaced my IMS bearing as a precaution. I posted what it cost me. The bearing that came out was fine. The L&N bearing is much beefier. If you change it you won't regret it. My car is a 2001 C4S with 25kmiles.
  6. I had it done by my local dealer. You can by the kit direct from LN engineering. If your near Jake Raby have him do it.
  7. Did this happen with the m97 motors only or did some of the 996 motors have this as well?

  9. Contact LN engineering or flat six innovations LN sent tools with my retrofit kit. Not the extractor, your dealer will have that.
  10. There are some basic updates which could give you some reassurance against anything catastrophic. I have young kids. The 996 was great for me. Drive them both see what you like. The zo6 will seem like a monster in comparison. I am hoping to do some driver education events with mine.
  11. The lm25 Blizzaks are a good deal right now. I had to go with lm60 in order to fit the wheels.I live in Michigan so I am interested in seeing how well the car does. Its a 3rd car so I probably wont drive it often.
  12. Nobody makes a 295 30 18 snow tire. The problem is its too wide. I posted to let others who may be interested in a snow what should work on standard wheels. Two wheel drive Carrera's are no problem because the front wheels can operate at different revolutions per mile. The all wheel drive cars need to operate at virtually the same revolutions per mile. The sizes I posted will fit on the standard wheel sizes and RPM will match. :)
  13. 2002 carrera 4s, called dealer they didn't know what tires to use. Spoke to firestone dealer his recommendation was wrong. Another dealer etc... Bottom line, I spent about two hours with a tire calculator and came up with 215/45R18 for the front and 275/35R18 for the rear. These have the same revolutions per mile, they will fit on the rim widths within spec. This is for running with the wheels that are stock. Ideally, you would be better off with a different set of rims that are narrower. I just happen to own two sets of rims with stock dimesions. I didn't want a third set of wheels.
  14. LN engineering provides the additonal tools required, in the purchase of the new IMS bearing. I just turned it all over to the dealer. The dealer returned all of the LN tools to me when they were done. They are in my tool box now.
  15. I have a 2002 C4S that has 25,000 miles on it. I had the work completed by Delta Imports. Delta is the local Porsche dealer in my town. They also discovered that the air box was installed wrong and it had rubbed a hole through the oil fill tube. So they repaired those related issues as well. I didn't include that expense in my post. I asked them to inspect the clutch since the labor would already be done to access the other parts, It was left alone because it was still in very good shape.
  16. Somebody inquired how much it cost me for installation of upgrades. I ordered a lower temp thermostat, spin on oil filter adapter kit, ims upgrade kit and new rear main seal for my new to me car. Labor was 1050.00 additional supplies, (oil and antifreeze) were 137.50, for a total of 1187.50. I don't have the receipt for the parts in front of me, but you can call LNengineering and ask. I bought the rear main seal kit from suncoast porsche. I also upgraded to an x51 oil pan and stronger bolts for the oil pan. I installed that myself.   17. I just bought a carrera 4s. I was not aware of this issue until I joined the forum. I just got my car back today from the dealer after the transplant. If you look at the LN bearing design compared to OEM it just makes more sense. For me it was worth it for the piece of mind.

  19. Bought a porsche it does not have the maintenance manual. I looked on the online owners manual and it does not say. Car is a 2002 c4s. Car currently has 25000 miles. Dealer records show that the oil was changed at 15000 miles. What are the recomended intervals for oil changes early on? I was planning on every 5000 miles.

  21. Thanks for the suggestion. I was able to grab just enough with locking needle nose pliers.I will post what the upgrades cost me.

  23. Cooled off and took another look. Broken bolt is located in portion of the oil pan where it is not seated in the block. It actually continues through topside. Hopefully this won't be so bad.
  24. My fault. Just boughta carrera 4s. 2002 25,000 miles. Car is going to the shop tomorrow. Going in for installatin of LN engineering IMS bearing upgrade, LN new thermostat, and new RMS. Clutch will depend on what it looks like when they are in there. Thought I might be able do a little work myself by installing a new x51 oil pan. Long story. Short story, last bolt I over tighened and snapped the head off. What is a likely soloution?
  25. Im new to this. I just bought a c4s and left on a family vacation the next day. If you can get the alternator out without too much headache, take it to an alternator shop. They can bench test it and tell you whether or not it is good.
